This is the perfect comparison of ebook vs. real books. I prefer real books all the way 100% I love carrying them around. I love smelling the pages (oh my gosh, that's my favorite). I love hearing the pages crinkle as I turn them. I love being able to cry while reading and know my book will be fine. But most of all I love the gratifying feeling of finishing an amazing book or series and putting it on my shelf like trophies. See I don't do sports, I do reading, and finished books are my trophies. They're proof of the journeys I've gone on and people I've met. I do read ebook samples but I haven't and will probably never buy an ebook.
But to each her own ;)
Also if you want to buy cheaper books go on ebay or amazon! That's where I buy aallll of my books unless they're at a nearby store and don't cost much more.

I love them both. It's just how it is. My Kindle lets me read whatever I want WHENEVER I want. I can go on Amazon and browse free books, new ebooks, try out samples. Stuff like that. And it also lets me read whatever I wish from my library too via the kindle deal my local one has and as I have asthma AND severe allergies... This actually lets me be capable of taking books out of the library (because my library is while it's awesome it's REALLY not good about replacing books) And when I forget their due... No charge. They just go poof.
But I also have a massive collection of hardback and paperbacks. And I'm still making room for more as I want a big book collection.

Good summary of pros and cons of eBooks versus traditional books. However, don't forget there are true eBook readers other than tablets (e.g., iPad). Tablets are NOT the best for reading eBooks: are heavier, have shorter battery lives, displays are not optimized for reading.

There is nothing that compares to the feel and smell of a real book. However, ebooks are eco friendly (think of all the trees!!), they save on space if you have no room to keep and store books. You can carry thousands of books around with you. The ereaders these days have battery life of upto two months. Ereaders are light and portable.
In my personal opinion the "experience" of a real book is amazing but the lack of eco friendlyness and ease of use and portability etc give it more cons than pros. An ereader is excellent in those terms, definitely more pros than cons for me but the reading experience just does not compare to a real book.

I find reading on eBooks danger for my own health for my brain and eyes. I know real books are expensive, but I always find a way to save up some money to buy it or ask my parents to buy it for me (I'm 12) :) I fully respect that some people prefer eBooks :)

I totally agree. I tried several times to read ebooks but I just really hate that light from my screen and I've to read all the time. At one point my eyes kind of start to hurt. that's why I don't really like it. There's a reason why real books are more expensive. Idk I just hate it to read something from a screen all the time.
btw, here in the netherlands you can borrow books (with a special card which I think you've to first buy) from the library. and it's endless, so you can borrow whenever you want! isn't that also like that where you live? I can read books without even purchasing it. Although buying it would also be nice...

The whole E-books versus printed books is like: cake Vs. more cake. Both sides of the argument have some really good points, it just depends on what you want. Besides, just enjoy with what you have, there's no need to bash someone else's preference. This whole debate is pointless.

  • @nancyhoang3697
    @nancyhoang3697 Před 10 lety

Wow, you had excellent points! I have a classmate who likes to ask me, "Why not get the ebook?" or another one who doesn't understand how I can manage an ebook (she hates ebooks). I can do both! If I love it, I love to feel it in my hands and turning the pages. If I want to go back or forward, it's easy to go -with an ebook, I have to wait for the pages to turn. However, if I feel that I won't like the novel enough to buy a physical copy, ask to borrow it from a friend and then wait for that friend give it to me, or wait or look for it in the library, I choose ebooks. Sometimes, if I like it enough when I read it as an ebook, I will eventually buy the physical copy. I would have no reason to get it as an ebook if I already have it physically though. Sometimes, it irritates me when I'm reminded that my device is almost out of battery but I love the book so much that I don't want to leave it...

I have a friend that lives about 2 hours away from the closest bookstore and she relies on her ereader pretty heavily. She orders books that she really wants to have a copy of but it isn't practical all the time. I also find that reading a 1000 pg book is a little easier on an ereader. Kindle paperwhite, kobo aura, Sony tsr3, are ereaders. An apple iPad is a tablet. Here is a easy tip to tell the difference, if you have to recharge your device everyday instead of once every month it's not a ereader.

"Excuse me miss, what do you happen to be reading there?"
"I'm reading a chemistry book, it's about physics and biology, and it's very intelligent literature."
"Oh really, maybe I should pick that one up."

I like both paper books and ebooks. Ebooks are GREAT for textbooks, especially for a college student since they're so much cheaper than the hardcover or paperback versions. Most other books are cheaper in ebook form too, which is nice. It can take a little getting used too, though, since most people probably prefer the feel of paper books and actually turning the pages and everything. Also, I think ebooks are good for when you want to borrow a book through Amazon or another service, or if you see a book that catches your eye and you want to try it out. Or if you just can't wait to go to the store to get a certain book. :) If I really love a book that I'm reading on my Kindle, I'll buy a physical copy too, or I'll buy the next book in a bookstore if it's in a series.

I have a kindle and I don't like it very much. My parents always want me to get it on the kindle because the books are cheaper, but they just aren't as majestic that way. I like collecting books and putting them on the shelf; they make me feel proud and happy when I walk by. Real books also have that smell; I don't know why, but the print on books just smells good and feel relaxing. I like turning pages better than tapping the screen. Ebooks kind of suck.

$10 for an ebook. theres lots of websites that you can download books for free (and no i don't mean illegal download)
$20 for a physical book. I don't think i've ever paid more than $5 for a book except atlas shrugged was like $8.
anyways though, I'll take real book over ebook everytime. i hate reading on a screen

They have kindles with built in lights now. Also they are coming out with plastic screen kindles in the near future. So if you drop them they won't break. Once they make it waterproof what will you have left to complain about? Your really missing out by not having a real ereader. Enjoy recharging your iPad everyday. I enjoy recharging my kindle once a month.

As an AP student, with soooo many textbooks and notebooks to carry around school all day, ebooks are my personal preference. Plus, they tend to be cheaper than physical books, which is definitely a leg up for an incoming college student like myself. Textbooks are expensive. I have never regretted buying my Kindle. Love it!!!

"S.Z. Love is a promising new author. He spins a tale in Sienna: and the Bushido School for Princes and Princesses of fantasy and suspense.
The book transforms the reader to an oriental world full of Elves and Halflings, magic and intrigue
. The story follows Sienna, a young girl as she refines her skills in martial arts, and as she meets friends and enemies.
danger pursues her at ever turn as she fights to find her purpose in life.
Sienna is a wonderful story for readers of all ages, and I am eager to find out what will happen in the next installment of S.Z. Love's epic story"

I live in Mexico and its a TORTURE getting great books in English here! I am not a big fan of ebooks because I like having a display on my shelves and I love the smell of real ones, but lately it has really been more about convenience and price. There was even this one time though that I was reorganizing my shelves, and I might have cried just a little because parts of my series and books with really nice covers were on my Kindle or borrowed... I might have issues...

I prefer eBooks but on the e-ink screen Kindle from Amazon. It looks really similar to paper so you don't have that glare. I love that books are cheaper and you can adjust the fonts, size, and spacing and that the battery lasts like a month and I can download new books from anywhere cause it has 3G internet for FREE. I also love that amazon recommends books cause most of the time I really enjoy the recommendations. I would recommend a Kindle to anyone who loves to read.
