      The problem with Africa is that there is culture/religion/ethnicities are too many and people strongly align with them. To have a fighting chance in modern world you need to be at least 100 million population country. So they need nationalisim to become stronger despite long term downsides of nationalisim. The BEST thing would be to become United States of Africa. This would standardize civil right, business regulations, erase travel restriction, increase trade, increase communication, connect resources more efficiently, increase tourism, increase diversity and cultural tolerance, give pride and nationalism.... But we all know it just can't happen no dictator would willingly give 10 billions for 1 billion, even though 10 million would have been enough for him. So the next best thing is to research a govt system that is conducive to business, human rights and such. They may not be republic/democracy/capitalisim.

    Chinese workers abandoning their families when they go back to China? Well, that happened in Hawaii when my great-grandfather (Chinese) married my great-grandmother (Hawaiian) when he worked in the sugar cane fields about 150 years ago (I'm 65) and then abandoned her and the family when he went back to China. His short term needs were met, but he left a huge burden for my great grandmother to deal with. Brother, this is not something new.

      If your Chinese great-grandfather was cutting sugar cane in Hawaii 150 years ago, he was probably under a labor contract that made him a virtual slave by modern standards. That is, he probably had little or no control over where he was sent. He may have been sold into servitude by his family or their local landlord. Your story is tragic, but blaming a guy who was working sugar cane fields, as if he was a globe trotting international entrepeneur, is just extraordinarily ignorant.

    This begs the question: How can we expect the Chinese to respect the natural resources of another country when in many ways, they don’t seem to respect their own. The issue of pollution being the most obvious example. I have a friend who came back two weeks ago from her first visit to China. She was in Beijing, and a few other cities. She got sick while there, not from the food, or the water (she brought her own water), but from the pall of pollution, especially in Beijing.
    While we certainly have pollution here in the US, it’s nothing like say, 40-50 years ago. There’s the famous story about a river near Cleveland, I think, that literally caught fire from all the toxic chemicals that had been dumped into it.
    It’s good that they caught the Ivory Queen and put her away. The other question is: Will the younger generation step up and say, “Enough is enough!,” before its too late?

Needless to say, a oil tanker accident would be an environmental disaster for that pristine lake. The project's latest status is that it has been put on hold. The project caused major protests, downplayed by major media, because of environmental concerns and the redundancy, because the Panama canal already exists. The Chinese are teaching Africans how to create food, while Westerners just donate food to them. It took China 30 years to get 1.4 billion Chinese out of poverty. Now Chinese people are teaching their experiences to Africa, helping Africa to develop and getting Africans out of poverty. The Chinese helped Africa, but they were accused by Western media. Dear Sir,
    this is the first time I've watched your documentary even though I had a brief understanding of the Chinese in Africa, however I found your documentary very informative and straight to the point. In brief I was in born England and my parents from British Guiana (now Guyana) South America. I have visited Guyana with my parents many times and Guyana is paradise. Recently many Chinese nationals are carrying out extensive work but also logging in areas that was protected by political parties in 1992. Now this not the case. They are reaping the forest and whole logs shipped in 40ft containers to China. They even made a dirt road 130km in the interior. The Chinese must be bribing ministers and departments to do so. Guyana does not need roads to interior or elsewhere. They don't employ Guyanese and if they do its labouring work. Guyana has the lowest carbon footprint in the world . Norway was giving Guyana US$250 over 5 years to protect carryout sustainable forestry and reduce CFP further. Now the Norwegian Government are furious that Guyana Government allowing this to happen. Guyanese people will be the biggest losers and will not benefit at all from foreign intervention to open more gold mines, Bauxite, timber and other natural resources, and when exhausted abandoned left in ruins. The indigenous people are and will suffer as the Chinese are felling trees on their land. I'm sure the Chinese will leave Guyana in debt even though oil was discovered offshore by ExxonMobil.
    Maybe it would be nice for you to visit Guyana with its 6 different people's. My last visit 2018. Guyanese are "blind" for what's is happening in their own country.
    Thank you,
    Regards.
    Surendra.

CCP of China knows that if Chinese individual private company operate the same way as the West, they can't compete with them. The only way to survive and get over this hurdle is to take advantage of the WTO rules as a developing country to accumulate sufficient "capital" and group it under ONE "mega-size company" (i.e. CCP in disguise), also by using some other "special tactics", to "destroy" other market competitors. The minerals for “green energy” also comes from mines in Africa. Children in the Congo are mining Cobalt for solar panels. There are widespread human rights abuses and exploitation in mineral rich regions of the developing world like Africa, Chili and Bolivia.
    Rich western countries are telling these developing countries that they can’t expand their energy sources to help bring them out of poverty unless they use expensive renewables which they can’t afford. The countries in Europe who have tried to switch to renewables have spent billions but they don’t have the technology or infrastructure to make them work. The cost of energy has doubled in those countries. Yet they are demanding that these countries use renewables instead of natural gas. If we don’t help them develop energy sources like natural gas then that will push them to China to get that help and China will control their energy sources.

    Of course this is not generosity or charity, they expect some return and often they'll bring in a chinese work force. But they see it as an investment and ensure its spent on the projects its intended for and the projects actually get completed - From what I've seen, this has a far greater impact than the billions of pounds the UK and rest of the west pour into "foreign aid" each year where I swear only 10% goes to its intended use, with the remaining 90% going to "administration" aka greasing the palms of bent politicians!

      @El Bottoo I've long been critical of USA as a superpower, the CIA's role in manipulating foreign states, their modern role as world police, but on the other side of the coin, I am now starting to appreciate that they have some fundamentally good principles of freedom, egalitarianism and democracy which shapes their behavior to some extent. As much as they have been overly keen on military intervention, which has been mostly counter-productive in the Islamic world, they also were key in establishing world bodies that have been effective in stabilizing the world, decreasing the likelihood of major wars. They established a stable world order. They have many allies all around the world who respect their core principles. Considering their dominant military might, modern USA also has not been exerting itself to expand its territory, which is remarkable in world history. Meanwhile, modern China contrasts USA in many less favorable ways. China don't hold as many fundamentally good principles, they disrespect world order, they appear more open to bullying and manipulation (including using their great control over their population in trade threats), more open to corruption, they are arguably even more nationalistic than USA, they they appear interested in expansion, their ruling power is wildly disproportionately distributed, and the government system severely lacks reasonable checks and balances and accountability. If you understand both Chinese and American culture well, you might be more concerned about these kinds of differences when/if China becomes the dominant superpower.

    • @FromPlToNy
      @FromPlToNy Před 5 lety +2

      @El Bottoo Sure but the reason why we have world peace for the most part right now is thanks to USA, because they act like world police, before they were a super power we had 2 world wars, but they are on the decline and we are facing a new age of competing/fighting super power probably USA India China and Russia and who knows who else, maybe balance will be better we shall see, or it might be catastrophic.

    • @benjaminmarkovinovic1547
      @benjaminmarkovinovic1547 Před 5 lety +2

      @El Bottoo Look, you're not going to be able to get your point across if you act in such a childish manner. Behave like this and you get shunned by society. This individual has given you A LOT of respect by responding to you critically and constructively.
      Now to the policing etc. I believe that the US has been responsible for most of the wars since ww2. By proxy though, so other powers were always involved. I agree that in the last 20 years it was very excessive. But what separates the U.S. from China, like what Lldb 123 has rightly stated, is accountability. In America, the people know most things the government does. And if the media uncovers certain truths that are horrifying, people are rightly outraged. This is why I am terrified of the current calls for censorship and Assange's situation. In China, the media is state-controlled and the Internet is censored, so the government can do whatever they want. That's the biggest problem I have with China honestly. Accountability. Once that's fixed, I believe that China can be a much more moral player on the world stage.
      Also, in regards to America not always following the UN, should we really trust the guys who have Saudi Arabia on the human rights Council, a country where they literally practice law from 4000 years ago and just recently had a mass execution by hanging and crucifixion?
      Last thing, if you're gonna call me a western propaganda nazi or whatever, as my name suggests, my parents lived under a socialist government which didn't fail its people in terms of needs (one that was kind of similar to the current Chinese economic system, but less in-your-face obey the leaders, in fact there was more open criticism) called Yugoslavia.

    China is everyone's good friend and we all know why. Thank you for highlighting this situation. As you mentioned although we are currently witnessing blatant neocolonialism, I'm afraid the real problem is the fact that most leaders in the African continent let themselves be corrupted and they don't give a single f*** about their own citizens. Of course China should be praised (IMO) for building infrastructures, while bringing technologies but their intentions wouldn't be questioned if they were actually hiring locals without shamelessly stealing natural ressources. And at the same time this whole situation should be a wake-up call for every african millionaires, future entrepreneurs, businessmen/women including investors and of course locals to ask themselves: what can we do to help our people. Activists like AKON are an example of what a single drop can do in the ocean. I mean, look at how Dubai developed itself in only 2 decades... Stay united Africans, dependency is a poison, this seed is refraining you from being prosperous. And generations after generations innocent ppl are paying the consequences. Free yourselves from these chains. Radical actions must be done. Right now. Seriously, it's time.

    • @MegumiHayashida
      @MegumiHayashida Před 5 lety +6

      @White Man You're absolutely right. Hence why I insisted on the fact that African leaders are generating national debts they will never be able repay, that's the tricky part but at least China is not contributing to human trafficking by enslaving these ppl nor importing weapons, drugs and unknown diseases in order to regulate them through criminal activities. It's up to Africans as well to fight for their heritage because so far, history has proven that nobody cares.

And i have to say while I can see why people agree with the things you brought up in the video, HOWEVER i must still say the I believe the overall picture is still much beneficial. How can you expect others to help you without providing anything in return? Africa needs infrastructure so its economy can grow. They might even make it another condition of these projects in Aftica, thus they can listen and control emails, etc.

      @@davidlu1787 no im sorry i am sure your mistaken. Winston loves China and really the CIA is a terribly corrupt institution which wouls surely deem advchina as small and beneath it. Truly the CIA jas adopted many communist traits in its last decades communist China should see the CIA as a partial ally. It would be very nice if everyone just succeeded together.

      @Alex ander Have you been there? My time in Africa showed me that the Chinese build infrastructure that the local economy cannot sustain, and then abandon it. The decaying highways with traffic lights broken down and pot holes big enough for a donkey to get lost in are not the signs of a saviour.

    As a kid, I used to regularly watch Animal Planet and Nat Geo Wild, and I used to be amazed by the rich wildlife and rich natural beauty of Africa, it's a shame that both of these things are being sacrificed just because of some greedy people.
