This damn animation is so heartwarming even after all these years.
That's one thing I've found I like about TF2.
There are these players that gladly show you around the ins and outs of the game, helping you reach a good level of skills.
I've only done 500 hours recently, but thanks to tips from others I've gotten farther than I would've otherwise.

@@j.h8219 There are servers I think, Jump Academy I think.
But you can also just join empty Community servers and practice there.
In order to find a 'mentor' you gotta ask around though, unless you're blessed by a friendly person who volunteers to help you out.
(I for one am one of such, whenever I play. If anyone wants, I'll gladly help 'em. I'm not a pro at Rocket Jumping but I know a few tricks that help incredibly.)

I may not be a soldier main (in fact, I'm an engie/scout main), but everytime I join the server I love to see how everyone, either vets or new people, try their best on the class they pick for conquering the skies of TF2 (and Soldier is the real Eagle here). Def the best community I've ever been on.

Step 2: keep doing Step 1 until an expert rocket jumper sees you and is willing to tutor you.
Step 3: follow his/her instructions
Step 4: get hats
Step 5: find a newbie who is a noob at rocket jumping
Step 6: teach him everything you learned
Step 7: create a school and teach everyone

That's true, when you get better at rocket jumping that leads to you being able to market garden then that leads to you being able to get hats when you die like random drops killing.

i just discovered tf2 and have almost 200 hours on the game in two months but i have never done a rocket jump i was today practising on jump academy they helped and i am grateful for the older players that teach the newer players

This soldier rocket jumping video is one of my favorite SFMs because soldier is my main, so when I started playing TF2 I first started playing soldier, and I saw another soldier with an unusual, the rocket jumper, and the market gardener, and I saw him use his rocket launcher to rocket jump, I tried it my self and...I killed my self XD, I asked my friend if he could help me with rocket jumping because he's an experienced player and from that on I played as soldier, kept on practicing

To those confused about why he doesn't die from the multiple rockets he takes :
1. You can use gunboats (Soldier Secondary) to reduce 60% of the explosion damage, reducing the max damage you take from 1 rocket to a maximum of 16 (unless you're in water, which to my beliefs increases the max damage to twice the amount)
2. You can use the rocket jumper (Soldier Primary) which is designed to not deal any damage, which makes it ideal for, you guessed it, rocket jumping. (if you wonder if this is any useful in game, try to find some "market gardener montages".)
3. There are servers designed for rocket jumping, the server properties are set in a manner where your health instantly comes back after taking damage while also instantly recovering your magazine to its maximum amount (pretty much like a bottomless clip).
Mastersskull Or... A private server with one of Nate Fox's server stuff or the command "bind mouse1 +impulse 101 which is sort of like no. 3 but privately.

I like the apprentice in this a lot, he feels fully fleshed out and mimicks his teacher, but not too much, it sets it up as a cycle but a human one.

My favourite SFM of all time, an amazingly fun thing to do in TF2 and the heartwarming feeling of helping new players learn...in one video.
I haven't played since 2013, came back a few months ago, bots have taken over, so I moved to community server, that soldier at the beginning missing every rocket jump was me trying to regain my ability to rocket jump and failing misserably... The one with the cowboy hat is a player from the opposite team called IamBread who gave me some advice on how to regain coordination and do better jumps, that was the best experience I've had in this game in many years...

Currently up to where I can do tier 2 jumps pretty consistently, and can do tier 3 stuff with a bit of practice. A long way to go but I’ve come a long way too. Hoping momentum mod turns out well so the jump community can expand and live on even longer
