My Airedale is a huge baby, but he is also so protective. Last Christmas i had some guy that i can only assume, was up to no good show up at my house two times. The first time he only said "robert sent me" i let him know there was no robert here and he left. But the second time he showed up, he had a weird look in his eyes. He said the same thing "robert sent me" i told him again, "i already told you there is no robert here" i started to get a little nervous as he stepped closer to the door, he then asked "can i come in?" As i was saying no, my Airedale forced himself through my legs, growled and barked in a way i have never heard him growl or bark before, the guy immediately turned around and walked away. I was so proud of my boy and to this day, believe he prevented that man from forcing his way into my house and doing God knows what. You will not regret getting an Airedale, they are so smart and loyal and have so much personality!!

Intelligent, courageous, loyal, and STRONG. Mine loved to play tug-o'-war and could pull me out of my chair. But with people who weren't suspicious he was a really gentle doofus.

I will own an Airedale someday. I'm sure one would fit right perfectly with my F1 Labradoodle. I had an unknown person show up one day, and I thought the doodle was literally going to take a chunk out of the guy....to say I was surprised was an understatement.
I don't worry about the family with the doodle with them, but I definitely won't with an Airedale teaming up with him as well

Nothing and no one would get past my garden gate without me knowing about it. Airedales are super dogs, and have a huge deep bark that would deter any burglar.. Their bark makes them sound even larger than they are and none of mine were small. My last male (RIP) would sit in front of me and stare any other dog that he thought was threatening me. The other dogs noticebly didn't make eye contact back. Mine have all been very good natured and loyal. They were too intelligent to start a fight, but when forced,, they never lost one either. A few well placed nips into the other dog's scruff was enough to let the aggressor realise what he was up against. A hefty 'nip' from an Airedale must be like slamming a car door onto your hand.

I used to live near a retired Diplock judge. We were requested to keep an eye out and report any loitering. He walked with two Airedale terriers, who were very obedient and switched on.

As a person who was gifted an Airedale Terrier puppy way back in Jan. 1980 -and had Airedales until about 2010- it really bugs me to see Airedale “show dogs” that don’t meet criteria. The saddle almost tan? Call the dog an Irish Terrier. The tail curving over the spine or even curling up on itself? Blame the tail docker! Electric clippers at work and no hand-stripping? Call the dog groomer lazy or find one with no hand arthritis. These dogs -especially the males- are always going to be puppies at heart. Their intelligence means they won’t immediately follow a command. They might mull it over and go with a more interesting alternative. In this sense, they are more cat-like. Brave/game? None braver but their flash point is slow to rise. A Doberman may be straining at the leash to get to the Airedale, but your loyal Airedale will stand by calmly, just wagging its tail. I wish I had hugged Paco, Penny and Topper a whole hell of a lot more often!

They also have large teeth for their size and have been used to hunt everything from vermin to lions and bears.

They have big teeth, strong jaws they are agile and can easily dominate much bigger dogs.

Victorian large houses used to have as indoor dogs airedale terriers and something like a staffordshire bullterrier or bigger terrier like a patterdale as a burgular coming in could not fend off dogs attacking at two different heights like
Staffs would go for lower legs and bite hard ,airedales go for face neck and.shoulders also thelittle one wont leave his fellow warrior when he has breath in him meaning the intruder is really in trouble here and noise brings attention .owned a staff years ago .was.wifes dogreally bit of a female.conspiracy wife and kids .very.bonded indeed.me.not so much.but wonderful sweet dog ,cancer got her at 13sadly .awful decision .felt a traitor.

Airdale terriers in UK are useless guard or protection dogs because of the show ring , it's working dog instincts are bred out. USA n Russia still have working line airdale terriers.

Don't know...I had an airedale terrier after Guiness Tunes of Glory, it's UK line and he was great guardian dog, I always felt safe with him around. Now I have my airedale terrier after Sher Unitus Morgan ( he is from russian breeder) and the only difference is that he is biggest and more muscular

You are talking nonsense, I had a bitch who stood guard over me as 2 Dobermans ran to attack, got with in an inch before they ran off yelping. I've been pushed in bushes at night when a stranger was near, a couple of times and managed to grab my dog at the last minute as someone got too near to me. She loved killing, rats and anything else that moved... She was also trained for the show ring, would stand and pose like a supermodel, also beat a couple of dogs of the top UK breeder. I would suggest you know nothing about UK Airedale's.
