  • @petrescuework-difficultcas6581

    Everybody who's asking themselves if this is necessary: no it isn't. Carnivorous plants do perfectly fine without ever getting fertilized or be fed insects. Actually, there's a commonly grown type of carnivorous houseplant with care requirements very similar to African Violets. Pinguicula a.k.a Butterworts, are sticky, broad-leaved carnivorous plants that make prettily colored flowers and apparently they're also one of the easiest to care for or propagate-which means you'll be able to multiply one into many little bog-beasts. If you're interested, I suggest subscribing to Carnivorous Plants Hub or buying a copy of The Savage Garden Revised to learn more about the wonderful world of carnivorous plant cultivation so you too can grow a beautiful garden of vicious plants.

    Awesome! I've been considering some of those for bugs but have been wondering about feeding it. This would probably solve that problem easily!
    (I also strangely find a lot of carnivorous plants pretty..)

      @Techplant I've been told Glass containers would cook them outside. I've never tried covering then with plastic though I've always just thrown them in a plastic pot and hope for the best haha

    Alternatively, if you have potted plants with an infestation of fungus gnats, they make an excellent renewable and self feeding food source for carnivorous plants. My little sundews are chock full of them. It's funny because the gnats aren't big enough to trigger the leaf curling impulse, so the leaves just stay open and get covered in gnats.

    I like to lift up pots on the greenhouse bench to discover pill bugs. When they roll up into a ball, pick them up, drop them in the Venus Flytrap, wait a few seconds until they unfurl, and the crowd goes wild!

    My grandma had a fly trap for years. It was HUGE. She dropped raw hamburger in the "mouths" and wiggled a toothpick against the feelers.

    This is really cool. I love these plants, I also love how they get rid of bugs. Nasty. But, I do my best to keep the house bug free and the temperatures are all over the place outside... so I can’t seem to keep them alive long. They still catch bugs sometimes, which they’re so cool for, but this helps a lot. I want this plant and a good ol Venus fly trap again. Probably will just get the fly trap tho lol
    Also, only have droppers 🤨
    Anyway thanks for this. Helps ! How often do you feed it though ? Once a month type thing ? ii

    I want to try using aquarium water. It's chemical properties are supposed to be similar to water in bogs and ponds. The key is not to have shells, corals, marble, etc in the water. Some aquarium plants like cryptocoryne actually come from bogs.

    • @TechplantChannel
      @TechplantChannel  Před rokem +1

      interesting, if you do report back on how it goes

    • @dmitrimikrioukov5935

      @@TechplantChannel In theory animals and plants in aquarium absorb the water hardness minerals in the water, while decomposing waste drops the ph. The older the aquarium and the less water changes it has, the more important this factor becomes. It is a known fact that bog plants (like cryptocoryne) and bog animals (like neon tetras) do much better in old aquariums than the others do.

    • @evilgaming0077
      @evilgaming0077 Před rokem +2

      This is horrible advice, aquarium water has all sorts of minerals necessary for all aquarium plants, that would harm the roots of your carnivorous plants (they can't absorb them, minerals block the plants' roots and in turn dehydrate it), but thet would be too diluted for the leaves.
