Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This song is from Wacken Open Air (Germany) in 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

Following the success of Beste Zangers show, Floor performed a series of solo concerts in the Netherlands in early 2020 with songs from her entire career (After Forever, Revamp, Northward, Nightwish, Beste Zangers) following that the last and the largest concert, at AFAS Amsterdam, to be professionally recorded and broadcast online, with the support of a crowdfunding campaign. After several rescheduling, due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, the concert took place at the beginning of September 2021 in 3 consecutive days. The lyric videos for HumanIINature are pretty good TBF. But in general i would agree. Anything from Wacken 2013 or Wembley 2015 is Fire

I would argue that with Anette -- and I hate to say it but also with Tarja -- he might be better off with the studio recordings. Floor is best live... Like Nemo live with Tarja? Just go to the studio version, it's horrifyingly bad.
Whilst I've always loved Tarja's haunting tone, she has the rhythm of an epileptic live, constantly going off the rails, missing entrances, and at times outright ignoring not just the rest of the band, but also the backing tracks. You don't get to improv like it's dinner theatre when you've got a pre-recorded backing track. I think it's a testament to the skill of the A&R guys that Tarja is actually on-beat in the studio. Admittedly it was far far worse on the "End of an era" tour where you could just tell the band was falling apart. Toumas in particular wincing and visibly thinking "where the hell is she going?1?" every time she ended up half a measure or more off.
And there are a few ultra-rare cases where the album was better than Floor. See the studio version of Amaranth vs. the live performance from this same show for example. Floors performance is by no means horrible, but it doesn't feel as well polished as the rest of the show. Admittedly, given Floor had been with the band for what? Six months or so by the time of Wacken 2013? Makes even her less refined performances at said show all the more impressive. (and despite fanboy claims to the contrary, there were big flubs)
In that way, I think long-time fans shoveled a bit too much manure Ms. Olzon's way. So many iconic songs from her tenure as lead singer. Amaranth, Storytime, Ghost River, Song of Myself...
That said I'll take any of Floor's performances of Storytime over Anette's any day of the week. Night and Day.

Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a spinto soprano with a range of around four octaves +. When listening to Floor sing, it is apparent that she has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several vocal coaches. Floor can sing in multiple languages and genres, and is a Master vocal coach. She often refers to herself as a vocal nerd. It is incredible how she is able to take any song from any genre and make it her own. This woman is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to a band that has always been great until 2013 when they officially hired the undisputed Queen of Metal, Floor Jansen, making Nightwish the greatest band on the planet. You should check out Dark Chest of Wonders from the same Wacken 2013 show. It was the show opener. Floor has only been with the band a very short time at this point. It’s the first time many of the 82k in attendance saw her as the lead singer in Nightwish. Hell of a debut. Dark Chest sets the stage for the magic to come. 🤘🔥

Floor Jansen was part of a music show in Germany called "Sing my song" this year. I was flashed by her voice and person behind. Since I started listening to Nightwish, the Band she joined 5 Month before this legendary Wacken concert in 2013. Then I discovered Ghost Love Score and I cannot unhear this. Meanwhile I heard this song maybe 300 times or more. There is no one single listening without goosebumps or chills. Having said that I really enjoyed your react video. I've seen many many of them but your reaction reminded me to myself hearing the song for the first time. I'll never forget this WTF moment!!! Thanks mate!

Floor her name is derived from the Roman Goddess of Spring, Flora.
Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy. Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6)
She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot.
Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016.
From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020.
This was recorded at the 2013 Wacken Open Air festival in Germany in front of an audience of 82,000 people.

I have only seen two people give this performance a thumbs down. My wife, who hates non-dance music, and a classical music reviewer who did not understand it at all. This person even criticized Floor Jansen for having to use “mic techniques”.
I prefer the live versions with Floor. The crowds are so electric! Passionate fans that add to the experience. ❤️❤️❤️
I've been told the live versions are much better than the studio versions so for now I will stick to those! The fans do indeed add a certain flare to the live shows :D

And this is why Nightwish have rocketed up the number of overall views. Floor Jansen has taken them to a new level since she joined in late 2012 mid tour. Prior to that she was singer with After Forever from 1997-2009 and joined when 16yo. All 15 songs at this concert were written for previous two singers so any studio versions won't be her. This song written for first very operatic singer and you won't get the colours or variety or the ending in the recording that Floor brings to this live version.
I can now see exactly why this band gets the views! Floor's voice blew my mind, her range is spectacular! Truly and amazing vocalist and the band is just as great!
I've been told not to bother too much with the studio version but will probably give it a listen just out if curiosity.

Nightwish is best served LIVE. To hear a studio version of this song, you would have to go back to the first singer, Tarja. Floor was a fill in replacement in late 2012 during the US World Tour, when their 2nd singer, Anette, fell ill, mid tour. The first studio album with Floor Jansen was in 2014. Enjoy this band, all versions, all singers, all eras. Well worth the effort!

as a Nightwish fan of over 18 years (oof), it's ALWAYS satisfying when someone new to the band experiences what we (the existing fans) do. Especially as a metalhead, I got a lot of flack for being into this kind of thing, got told it wasn't "real" metal, that it was just girly bullshit, etc etc. This is why these reactions are such a huge deal on youtube, we Nightwish fans can't help ourselves. We love seeing someone discover and enjoy them.

Yep, you are spot on here - this is all about telling the stories, the most effecient way possible. Tuomas (keyboard) writes the stories and composes the raw music, before they all gets together and by using their joint forces - they enhances the stories to incredible experiences. And Floor is by far the greatest storyteller in the galaxy. She is the most versatile, powerful, skilled and talented singer in the world in this century - not kidding!! You have barely scratched the surface of Nightwish's and Floor's capabilities here - and please do stick to the live performances, if possible - Nightwish and Floor are feeding from the audience. No autotune, no pitch correction - just skills and power beyond belief.

No copying here at all. But from 2015, the new songs were written to her - and at the same time, Tuomas's focus in his stories changed. And furthermore he realized that he had no more limitations in his writing - Floor could do literally anything - just far better!!

I had not heard of Floor or Nightwish until around 6 months ago until a work colleague mentioned them to me more than once so I decided to see what all the fuss is about and OMG. I've not been the same since. I'd never taken any notice of symphonic metal until now. I have been a lifelong 45 year appreciator of the Electric Light Orchestra (E.L.O.) led by the genius Jeff Lynne who I regard with Toumas as two of the best song writing composers ever. Ghost Love Score live was the first Nightwish composition that I listened to, instant goosebumps and I was gobsmacked, still am, each and every time I watch and listen. Floor is phenomenal, they all are. I'm buried deep in the Nightwish rabbit hole hoovering up everything from the Tarja and Annette eras (they were great) and now Floor who has lifted Nightwish to a level far beyond. A wonderful reaction Sir. Thank you 👍🙏😊

Floor was in metal bands before this Revamp and After Forever with heavier metal than Nightwish where she sings with deep growls. One of these bands was her own so she could do everything she wanted. When on her sisters wedding Nightwish called her, she said can it wait till tomorrow I am at a wedding. Then while at the wedding they send her a text following up the phonecall it said can you fill in for our lead singer. She had to learn the setlist in 48 hours, there is a documentary about it on CZcams. The Nightwish songs are much longer than popsongs so its pretty impressive to learn them so quickly. I believe she had a few cards with lyrics all over the stage to help her and the band helped her to start singing at the right time. I believe the fans started to chant Floors name after her first performance with Nightwish. Floor was famous all over the world except in her own country until she sang The Phantom of The Opera in the Dutch tv show Beste Zangers which is on CZcams. She sang many songs on Beste Zangers including opera and Lady Gaga. This made her famous in her own country the Netherlands which landed her a solo career next to Nightwish in her own country. The German version of Dutch tv show Beste Zangers noticed Floor and ask her to come on the show where she sang in German. Floor can sing in 6 languages as if she is a native from that country. She studied at the Rock Academy while playing in a famous metal band. After The Rock academy the studied musical theater and after that she studied opera singing. One of the most asked questions she gets asked by fans has nothing to do with singing or Nightwish, fans ask her over and over how tall she is. Floor is Dutch and Dutch people are the tallest people in the world. She is tall but next to me or my friend who is 2 meters she would still look small, but next to women in other countries she is a giant and has muscles too. She remind me of a tall Amazonian woman and with her black outfits on stage she looks like Xena The Warrior Princess. @@marbenthesaffa It is all good ! One song with her old band which is heavier with growls which is recommended a lot is Disdain at parkpop. She even says it to the audience are you guys ready for something heavier. Even if you are not into opera you should watch her sing Phantom of The Opera with Henk Poort to see the highest notes she can sing. We have another famous Dutch singer who has a very good voice and songs as well. Just search for Anouk egg incident. They threw an egg at her at a music festival with 50.000 people because they didnt feel her music was a fit for the festival. She took of her t-shirt and proceeded to sing in her red bra, no fucks given, I didnt mind at all because she is pretty hot lol. Anouk is a real badass she even got into an argument with a record producer from a big record label in the US, who wanted to her to behave and sing a certain way. No one tells Anouk what to do so she pushed him in a heated argument blowing her career in the US. P.s. Floor doesnt think her growling is that good, but her fans disagree. You cannot compare yourself as a woman growling like Jinjer.

I was the same with you at first. I've listened Nightwish once with the previous vocalist Tarja back in days when I was a teen metalhead. I appreciated them but never listened again, because I thought symphonic metal wasn't my cup of tea. Then after many years, when I was mid-thirties I've discovered this performance and Floor and addicted to their songs quickly. Especially the live versions. Almost every song feels like a new journey.

Floor has just released her first solo song "Fire". She sang different types of music in Beste Zangers. Look for her Amsterdam Concert on youtube. The front person can make or break a band. Floor is a generational talent. She is insanely good.
I actually saw her sing Fire yesterday on CZcams. Saw it was just released and decided to just watch and OMG it was amazing! She's is incredible🙏🤘💪
The Nightwish army arrived XD I've been a fan of Nightwish since 2004 and I still get kak from 🇿🇦 metalheads for it (last night I had a reminder of that at a gig). I fell off from them with their 2nd vocalist but a friend showed me this recording in 2014 and Floor is an amazing fit. The last 2 albums are recorded with Floor at the mic.

One very good reason for GLS, especially Wacken 2013, Floor, being the most reacted to is that this is probably the definitive rendition of one of the most beautiful songs ever written. If that is not a good reason nothing is. My own reaction to this particular video, never having heard of Nightwish before, was instant adoration of Floor and instant conscription to the Nightwish Army.
I 100% agree with you! This song is a masterpiece and a true show of what they are capable of. It's a great way to start the journey that is Nightwish! The nightwish army is the most loving and accepting fans in the world, no doubt! 🙏

Growing up in the 60s and 70s my main music has always been classic rock even up to the last few years. I would have never listened to this type of music but as you said as we get older our music evolves and this has become one of my favorite songs. Weather I like a song or not I learned to appreciate the talent involved. Now I go from one end of the spectrum to the other. From Home Free to Leo Moracchioli I can find great music.

Great reaction. Nightwish songs are really varied, going from pretty heavy through to ballads and folk-influenced songs. Given your tastes in music I think you're going to like the heavier side of the band. I suggest you check out: Romanticide, Yours is an Empty Hope, Dark Chest of Wonders, Tribal, Planet Hell and Master Passion Greed. The studio versions are worth checking out at some point, but live is generally best with this band. Also, the band has had 3 different lead singers, so anything prior to 2012 won't have Floor singing. BTW - Floor is also a Pantera fan.

Hey nice reaction. I agree about musical taste changing as you get older. As I’m over 50 now the male dominated Guns n Roses, Whitesnake, Iron Maiden etc are making way for the lighter pure tonnes from the female singers in Nightwish, Epica, Larkin Poe, Samantha Fish.

I can relate, as the same thing happened to me. I'm not a fan of opera, and that was the original singer's lane. Years later I heard they had replaced her (twice) and gave them another chance ... finding my favorite band of all time, my favorite singer and my favorite composer. It was just a matter of taste, not quality ... all three singers are incredible talents, I just don't like how affected the opera style sounds to me - stuffy! Glad you found them. You will discover that the genius of Tumoas, with his compositions, will deliver brilliance with each song and something different. Enjoy your journey, it's been the best one I've ever taken.

Btw. Talking about Pantera, Floor also loves that band, so does Hannes van Dahl (drummer of the Swedish band Sabaton). To get this story short (loving and sharing their love for Pantera and whiskey), they got married, got a child (girl Freja (6 years old)) and they live in Sweden. So ....... the magic is still there.
So far so good! The 2 tracks I've heard are both so different but equally amazing! I've been told to check out Epica so I will most certainly do that! I'm quite excited! So many recommendations! :)
You know, Sabaton is another band I haven't heard and has been recommended so telling me this story just makes me want to listen to them even more! :)

I had to watch this again mainly because of your Maiden shirt. They were the first band I saw live in 81 with the original singer-Paul Dianno and a French band called Trust supported with Nico Mc Brain on drums. One of my school teachers started a rock club at school against the headmaster and organised the trip to the concert
