Every month I do a walkthrough and put the spot light on sick and recovering guinea pigs and talk about what ails them and what we did to get them better. This video shows quite a few lumps, I talk about the Buddha Boys, update on Penny the skinny with bad Fungal infection and more ...

It is so sad that so many pigs need rescue but wonderful that you are there to take care of them
Totally agree with what you were saying about pointless diagnostics.
When you have lots of experience and a fabulous vet like we do at our guinea pig sanctuary and you do too, you can forgo things like x-rays etc on occasions-sometimes even cultures if you go in with some good antibiotics which have helped a particular infection time after time with other piggies.
Sometimes of course certain diagnostics are necessary but often a good, experienced vet can often suggest trying something out or can simply go with their gut before turning to the x-ray machine/doing a culture, or whatever is needed. Our vet does some of the examination with his eyes closed concentrating very hard on what he can feel inside the piggies body. He is usually right with his diagnosis!
This is why its so important for new piggie owners to research which vet they will use before picking up their new piggies or be guided by the rescue/sanctuary they come from--(please adopt dont shop folks!!)
Great video Saskia. So good to see the piggies in such good hands!
Hi Catherine!!!!!
@@LosAngelesGuineaPigRescue Hey Saskia! xx

Oh cool, was the pig you adopted one we all seen on one of the live videos on Saturdays? Just curious. At least when you get a pig from Saskia you know you are getting a healthy pig that's been properly sexed and free health checks for the life of it. Congratulations on your piggy adoption.🐹🐹🐾🐾👍

Oh how wonderful!!! Thank you for sharing
Thank you so much for all the hard work and love you give to these pigs!
Omg this was so informative because I lost two piggies to this. The vet thought one was uri but no meds worked even tried a nebulizer didn't work, he'd fall over when walking. New passed. The other had left facial paralysis couldn't eat properly either. I miss them. Thank you for this.
Was an head xray ever done? If so can you send it to me at contact@laguineapigrescue.com ?

Gosh I just adore Saskia and LAGPR they’ve discovered so much and continue to search for answers 🙏🏽 They are literally Angels for these little piggies ❣️
Hey Saskia I dont know if you will read the comment but my guinea pig doctor in the Netherlands is called Eva Stoffels and she is amazing and studdied guinea piggies for YEARS! its actually best to NOT castrate the piggies but doing vasectomy, keeping their hormones and everything in check as well, its not needed to castrate and can give many problems in a later life of the guinea pig! I just wanna let you know because most people dont know about vasectomy!
" They just sit around waiting to die" I felt bad but I laughed so much when Saskia said this. She's not sugar coating it lol !
I can be very blunt sometimes I guess 😉
I love your videos... i used to have two pigs but they sadly passed away... Yuki had astma and i was unawear of it and Fudge because stressed when i got Yuki and stopped eating hay.... i was so sad when they passed and i blame myself for not getting them to the vet quicker... your videos are very insightful so thank you... love seeing how all the little piggies are doing
Thank you Saskia (and the rest of the team of course) for all the care that you give to those guinea pigs! You really are angels, I love you all! ♥️
Holy shit this guys profile pic is JACKED af
u go girl ur like a crazy guinea pig lady detective and ure making the piggies lives better with ur discoveries
I hope you ENJOYED your time away,
Saskia, thanks for the walk through...
SPECIAL NEEDS SENIOR PIGS ROCK!
Zoologist here! I find your personal research and experiences on the strange ear calcifications extremely interesting!
Please strive to get this information out to a research team where it can be quantified etc. and eventually published, would love to see a paper on this in a journal at some point!
oh my god Jim is such a darling ❤️he looks like a little teddy bear! Such a good boy
saskia !! you are NOT crazy , just little eccentric ; in a good way !! :D it is people like you restore my faith in humanity !! :)
Saskia my guinea pig guru!!
Always informative and educational information that will help us identify issues that need medical attention and common ailment in guinea pigs.
Great job as always!
Very interesting the part about the neutering. I live in the Netherlands and had my boars neutered by a vet who also uses this other techique. He does hundreds a year and has never had a problem. Tiny stitches and no antibiotics needed. Amazing!
Lucky you!! That will be my next fight, changing over to safer neutering.
Looking super chic as usual :)
OUTSTANDING VIDEO!!!! Your knowledge is priceless, I love watching & learning from you thank you so very much
Thank you for caring ..you are wonderful..Ive learned so much from you
I'm so glad!
I really like you Saskia. You are pretty damn cool.
Thank You For Answering my questions in Saturdays live video I am grateful you took the time to do that. I know you are extremely busy. I am also sorry for posting after the live. I go overboard and post too many comments. I will stop. I just want to say you are the reason why my pigs are healthy & happy and didn't get re-homed. You have been an awesome teacher
Thank you sweetheart ❤
You are a saint for these piggies, and you look beautiful, too!
I love the half faces like his gorgeous markings .
Usually, surgeons are flexible. Have you suggested to the Baldwin shelter that there is a faster/ cheaper way to neuter guinea pigs? the shelter may not want bother to pass the info on to the vet. But, I bet the vet would be very happy to learn how to do the neuter a better way. Wouldn' t it be wonderful if you could have that vet do a cheap neuter on a lot of your hard to place piggies? You could pass the cost of the surgery onto the adopters.
This has exciting possibilities in my opinion.
You could do it in memory of Pedro. : )
I edmier you i wish there were more people like you.
I wished I was that enthusiastic about salad as this little guy
Yea! Love these, please do one for each month. Great idea!!
Deal!👍
Wat een kosten 😵 wel heel erg goed dat jullie dat allemaal doen 😍😘😘😘😘😘😘🥰🇱🇺🍀
Such sweet babies!

Emanuel is so cute! Poor little fella! He even looks great in a cone! His foot is definitely improving. Ouch!
Saskia saves the day again
One of my girls had what we thought was reappearing UTIs. We emailed the lady from the rescue we adopted her from, and took her too the vet to get an x-ray. No stones. They gave us some antibiotics, but we were still seeing blood. The lady at our rescue gave us more antibiotics twice, before she recommended going to a vet in the city. They did another x-ray, and still nothing showed. They then said that they wanted to do an ultrasound. Turned out she had a tumor in one of her uterine tubes, which they were able to remove no problem with a spay surgery.
So glad that worked out!! Yes ultrasounds are a must in cases like that!
gnam gnam :))))))Lovely sweet animal's...
I am buying a piggy tomorrow from pet world i am sooo excited for this little guy to come in to my life as soon as i held him i knew he belonged to me
What a lot of hard work behind the scenes. Very informative and interesting. Thank you for showing the Buddha Boys. Guinea Pigs are so lucky to have your expert care.
It makes me smile to see Georgeana laying on her back happily eating her leaf!
You are the Ginnie pigs of this worlds Angle Saskia God bless you and your dedicated work force for saving these fun loving and beautiful animals ❤ ♥ 💙 💜 💖 💕
One of my boys had passed away after an upper respiratory hadn’t gone away, I hadn’t been watching your videos then so I wish I knew it could’ve been heart disease or the Bulla thing. Rip Clay ❤️
May he rest in peace in the lettuce heaves
My condolences, I hope you will feel a bit better soon🌻
oh my gosh! this is a break from the guy behind the camera not talking!!! thank you!
Saskia with this calcified issue they must be in sone discomfort I mean if it’s like a constant ear infection there must be discomfort. What is their quality of life? Oh Saskia that head tilt gets me every time my heart just breaks. Saskia you will be the person to make a vac for little baby piggies so that they will never ever have to have this awful awful problem you will cure this issue!
@Saskia, if you haven't read up about Vestibular Disease in Dogs, do! It might help you make some links. More common in older dogs, their middle ear is affected leading to a head tilt, amongst other things. I wonder, in cases where guinea pigs did have a chronic, underlying type of (thus far) mysterious infection/bug/whatever, the end result is that head tilt, blindness/deafness etc. I'm sure you'll get to the bottom of this eventually!!! Thank you for not giving up
About the male piggies with upper respiratory / sinus infections. I believe they may have a Fungal infection that is initially caused by eating moldy hay containing fungal spores. Fungus then grows in the sinuses and can cause facial nerve swelling and inflammation.
Fungal sinusitis can also spread into ears, or even lungs to cause COPD. Antibiotics do not help these cases, only Amphotericin and Ketoconazole can get rid of it.
Saskia you are so wonderful with all the pigs. It's obvious that you genuinely love the guinea pigs. You may not be a vet but you are very knowledgeable in treating these piggies. I love watching you with the Guineas. You are just wonderful.
Thanks for the update Saskia, you are an angel. Very interesting content and gorgeous furbabies 😊😊
My pleasure 😊
I just can’t get over how CALM these piggies are! Every. Single. One of them!!!!!
Hands down the best guinea pig rescue on CZcams! And probably one of the best in the world!!💗💗💗💗
My rabbit always is having some medical issue and he’s getting up there in years so it’s gonna get worse. But for me I think every penny is worth it if he can stay with me happy and healthy.
Thank you for helping him!❤
You are indeed my favourite crazy guinea pig lady
Don't feel shy to call yourself that💕 If anyone ever asks you whoever called you that, just tell them I did, because I did that indeed right now
You are an angel for helping these piggies out. My mom is going to adopt two or three cuties from a shelter in our country, I am really looking forward to that. Thanks for helping me prepare for taking good care of the piggies as well, my mom gives in at the tiniest squeak, so the nail trimming and health checks will be my duty when I visit on the weekends.
Hippo looks like a hippo. So cute.
I always look forward to these x
I love my exotic vet Dr Paulette. She is so awesome and very up to date on all the latest info for piggies
Thank you for all you do. My Nugget has an ongoing eye problem. I’m finally getting him into our best exotics vet next week. I’ll look for an ear twitch.
Might be a great idea to do an Xray to see if the Bulla are looking ok. I have found lot of stubborn leaky eyes are connected to that as well
I am learning so much thanks of you Saskia ! Thank you very much !
This is amazing information Saskia, you could write a book, it would be so great x🐹x
These walkthroughs are so interesting. It’s great to see the progress on piggies that have had problems. The skinny that had the body-wide fungal looks so good now. I’m glad she’s socializing and making friends. Thanks for spreading this information, I’m always learning something from you. ❤️🐾
Thank you Robert!
Jim is so chill, such a cutie! 😎🥰
I hope someday your research is published! Wouldn’t it be great to have a class in vet school on just piggies?!
God bless you!
I don't followngunie pigs but once in awhile I see you and and drop in. I just wanted to say you really are a hero to guinea pigs and thanks for all your sincere true hard work. If you ever need volunteers I'm in
y habe change y color of lipstick :-) so nice. fantastic!!! salut
Thank you!!! I actually bought this color 1.5 yrs ago in Holland from a chain called Hema.
Super interesting I really want to know thank, you saskia x
Thank you for showing us the piggys x we love them all x and you are all wonderful xxx
Re the bulla project. PCR tests may be the best way to find a virus and Identify it. Your local vet school will know how to collect the sample and they can do the test for you. It shouldn't be very expensive. Maybe you will need to send them tissue from the cadavar pig. The bulla looks to be isolated from everything else, so virus, etc. may not be easy to find eg. in a nasal swab. You may need to send them tissue out of the bulla itself.
Oh bless there little hearts
Her left eye blinked when you clapped!!! I think she did hear you.
Your a awesome person someone needs to help these sweet babies
Saskia, i follow your guinnies treatments, Well done,! Greetings fr belgium
Adorable piggies!
Guinea pig r so cute💜
Saskia, thank you for caring so much for these little creatures. I have had a number of cavies and they have been wonderful pets! They are often midunderstood, and not maintained as herd animals. A person I know who is a teacher, as I once was, bought one for her classroom. Unfortunately, the little pig lasted a very, very short while, likely out of loneliness. Perhaps you can cover this in a future video. Best regards, Bob
Love them
VERY EXPENSIVE SURGERY 😊
There is a guinee pig rescue down the street from me. In University City, San Diego, Ca. I would adopt a couple of these cuties, but they seem to be so much work.
Thank you Saskia. This is so educating. 💖🤗😘👍
You are my hero
I love watching your videos so informative I was not a guinea pig person prior to watching you
This is so cool
You were gorgeous on this video!
Oh thank you!😘
Thank you for caring so well and kindly for the piggies! ✨🙏🏻❤️ I've been doing a little research on the calcificated bullae and so far I've found that it looks and sounds really similar to some type of Otitis that often happens in dogs and cats as well. It can be a primary cause as well as the after effect of an other underlying cause or illness. It usually develops after one or more multiple sinus, cold, allergic, bacterial, fungal, mite or yeast infections and sometimes an obstacle such as a tumor or an old lost grass seed. The calcification basically happens in a later stage, so perhaps the middle ear infection has already been there for quite a long time... This is so far the information I've gathered. I'm not sure if the piggies have Otitis too, even though it looks very similar, so I'll see if I can study some more on this and help research and if I find more or something else, I'll share it with you. Hope this helps in your search. All the best! Much love to you and the piggies. 🙏🏻❤️
Yes I agree with all of that, the interesting part is that there are always two ears affected. Never just one.
@@LosAngelesGuineaPigRescue Aww, yes that's interesting indeed... Poor little ones... Perhaps one ear was already affected and knowing piggies are masters at hiding their illnesses, it's not always easy for us to notice. Or it could indeed be something else or a different type of ailment, irritation or inflammatory of the ears or sinuses leading up into the ear canals. It's truly quite hard and tricky to find the right answers to this specific health issue... Hopefully there will be something that will help heal the piggies or at least make them a little bit more comfortable. Fortunately the piggies are in good, caring and loving hands, so that I'm sure already helps them so much! Thank you, always! Much love, light, healing, blessings and positive vibes to you and the piggies. ✨🙏🏻❤️
I wish I could adopt one of your Guinea Pigs. They're so cute.
I'm Loving The Wheekers Group!! I did receive my order In good timing FYI our Ivermectin.
The piggy with the head tilt could have something similar to Bells palsy. Bells is caused by a viral infection and is treated with anti viral meds and steroids to heal the inflamed nerve.
Toronto Animal Services sterilizes guinea pigs before adoption, but Toronto Humane Society and private rescues in the area don't. They do rabbits, but not piggies.
the chronic bola makes sense for my boy. he had uri symptoms most of his life and lots and lots of vet visits that never cleared it up with medicine and a few weeks (maybe two) before he passed he had a TERRIBLE ear infection that eventually lead to his passing (ear infection, antibiotics, bumble foot and no critical care) he went downhill fast . i should bring this up with his old vet when we take our kitty in to get spayed so they can have the knowledge for the next piggy
I have a guinea pig who suddenly went blind over night. He walks in circles sometimes. And does the head bobbing. No head tilt right now
I would love for this informative of videos done on other animals. The closest I can find is snake discovery. They are amazing as well.
I would love one for cats.
Los Angeles guinea pigs rescue
I wish I had one of your Healthy Guinea pigs
You and the work that u all do is amazing! 😄
Awesome video!!!!!!! The knowledge you share is priceless,,thank you so very much
You are a very special community
Our Oreo will be 5 May 1st she gets a weepy eye now and again. I do the Terramycin Eye Ointment and its clears right up. She eats drinks runs and plays like she did at 2. Knock on Wood!!
Does Podrick have it now as well? Because you said all of them had it? Thanks for the walkthrough, they're always very interesting. I wonder if other vets here in The Netherlands use Silvia's neutering technique too, because quite a few rescues around here have some or even all of the boars neutered, without any problems, as far as I know.
I've always had my boy piggies neutered, probably about five neuters in about 25 years? I don't know how they did it, but I feel like it must reduce impaction issues, because I've never had to do much boar cleaning. I think it's great because they can live with the females and be happy. They still hump, but no babies, lol.
my cats always freak out by your intro lol!! i always have to turn down the noise during squeaking or the cats go crazy!!!
I had no idea how hard it was to care for a Guinee pig.
