Honestly, this is part of why I believe visual shouldn't even be a position in a Kpop group. A lot of people, especially the fans, have a tendency to hyper-fixate on idols' appearances and some even criticize idols for their appearance, but in doing so they kind of don't realize just how much work goes into what they do. Hours of recording (and then re-recording) the digital versions of their songs to get the best sound possible followed by probably even more hours of practicing the choreo so they can spend hours performing the same choreo over and over again, and that must be absolutely exhausting and they kinda have to suppress this in the presence of their fans because their fans are there to watch the group perform and how they're feeling at that moment isn't relevant in that setting. Their appearance is completely arbitrary to all of this.
I wonder if sometimes, people forget that Irene is an incredible dancer.

^ lmao you're delusional if you think rv are promoted well. this year, both of their promotion cycles were cut short and one of them was during chuseok week so it was even shorter, they had a grand total of 2 tv appearances and 2 fansigns during russian roulette promotions, russian roulette comeback was delayed by 3 months, no variety show (they're in their 3rd year since debut and no other sm group has taken more than a year to get one), no dance practices, apart from the past month they've been pretty much unemployed between promotion cycles, their physical albums are pretty ugly (2 jewel cases in a row are you serious?)
how can you expect their fandom to grow if no one can follow them? how do you expect high physical sales if their albums pale in comparison to competition? compare them to twice who have v lives every day, have their own reality shows, are on every fucking channel on tv, and their albums are gorgeous and have lots of extra things in them. how can rv compete against a group that never leaves the public eye? also compare them to nct who have a well packaged album, their own reality show, dance practices etc. sm is promoting them badly it's literally undeniable

This dance is NOT simple and boring. The amount of leg movements and kicks and fast timing on a chair is not easy to dance to. Try it yourself. These girls are so talented.

the choreography is boring. the difficulty level of the dance is another thing, i'm not a dancer so i can't tell you. but like some people say it's typical sm to put out something mediocre these days. the song is just meh in my opinion. these two girls' talent is not really the issue, it could have been anyone else since it doesn't seem unique to them- and that is why sm is just playing safe.
mayagold10 you do know that the song is a cover of an old SM group song from S.E.S right? so it would click in your brain why the song is a bit meh for modern taste, the song was from 2001 unless you ddnt know that, there is still a long way for these girls to prove their talent so you shouldn't be quick to pass on judgment at this early in their career stage
This is why Red Velvet needs to hit the sensual and grooving choreography more in their MVs. Hopefully their future tracks keep to this feel. I don't mind them going pop tart, bubble gum in feel like "Happiness" and "Ice Cream Cake" on occasion. But this, just like "Automatic", is really their bread and butter, and what separates them from other girl groups.
+FalconFXICCY sadly, with Yeri's addition, they aren't going to flaunt that side of the concept like we want them to til like in 2 years, and if they find success with the bubble gum pop concept it's most likely SM will give up on that side of the group
Jewel January SM would have to give up on the name "Red Velvet" if that were to happen. They knew the group had success with both sides of the image coin before they added Yeri. They weren't going to jeopardize what the girls would be doing choreography-wise if they knew Yeri's addition would dilute the possibilities of more daring visuals. Besides, she doesn't have to show skin or grind to be erotic or sensual. She was already in "Automatic" and that visual is more than PG enough for her age. Plus, I doubt SM would push Red Velvet to do moves and visuals like what you'd see from AOA (Miniskirt), Girl's Day (Something) or Stellar (Marionette).
FalconFXICCY Yeri was on Automatic, yes, but you can't deny Automatic's choreo was less sensual than Be Natural, and no, im not saying they would go for that kind of concepts, i know the "red" side of red velvet it's classy sexy not straight up sexy
+Jewel January Both "Be Natural" and "Automatic" had a cabaret feel to them. I personally don't see much difference between the two. One just had much more dance choreography to it, the other defined more by single shots and emotion. If anything, "Automatic" had a much better setting and rhythm to better allow the girls to exhibit their sensual side. Since the girl groups from SM have been defined by their styling lately, I can imagine Red Velvet's next grooving MV to feature the girls in boudoir look. Yeri can be in lingerie without moving or dancing as a visual and it'll still work, both for their MV concept and her age. Although you might not actually fall, you will feel sick, pain and you're sweating everywhere without notice! It depends on how much basics you have.

I just realized that the song used for this video is recorded with RV's voices and not S.E.S's voices. And this video was released before their debut. I really hope SM will give Irene opportunity to showcase her dancing skills, so non fans will not downgrade our Irene just being the face of the group. Honestly, her dancing skills is so different with Seulgi. Seulgi has charisma and power to it, while Irene is more of an elegant way of dancing. I really wish SM will let Irene go out of her box and let her have the opportunity to prove herself to others. Just saying. :)

Why do people keep on questioning whether Seulgi or Irene is the best dancer? The way I see it, they have different styles. Seulgi's style is sharp and sweg, while Irene's is elegant and fluid. For me, they're both main dancers. They're equally good. They complement each other. Just look at their chemistry. Well-balanced, I must say.

Yea I loved her hair when she wasn't dyeing it SM should've left their hair alone because they all have long and beautiful hair I'm glad they did just their tips in Happiness (cuz at first I couldn't distinguish them 😁) but when ICC came I was like they just killed their hair like they should've just stuck with ombre's they could've been the ombre queens lol but if you see in some pictures it looks like their hair is fried and I was so sad cuz they had such wonderful hair even in Be Natural they dyed it black and that causes damage still but less than bleaching don't get me wrong I loved them in BN and ICC but I just don't like them dying their hair so much sad but they said they loved dying their hair so if they like it I guess
