I avoid bringing them in by boiling water and sterilizing any soil that comes in my house. I remove all soil from new plants and repot as soon as I bring them home. I rarely have issues with them after I started doing this.

My favorite way to get rid of fungus gnats, or rather control their numbers, is with the mexican butterwort plant (pinguicula plants) and Sundew plants. They do an amazing job of controlling populations in small collections of plants. And they flower the sweetest pink/purple flowers too. I'm actually really fascinated with them! :D Thanks Nell!

I then watered with the peroxide/water treatment. I also have the yellow sticky paper board hanging. Praying this will help get rid of any eggs and the flying gnats. Thank you so very much.
Hi Nell. How are you? I live close to community pond, so there are a lot of fungus gnats close to my house. The best way I have found to deal with fungus gnats is Diatomaceous Earth. I put a lawyer on top of the soil. When the fungus gnats crawl or walk through, the exoskeleton gets cut and die. I think it is the fastest way to get rid of them. I water under the surface of the soil. DE when it is wet will not cut the FG. I cut large smoothie straws. I put a big headed small bolt over the straw, so they can not crawl down it. Larger plants I use small funnels and plug with a wadded psper towel. Works for me! Enjoy, Gerry ☺

Hello Nell, I don’t mind sharing my secrets regarding fungus gnats. First, I must tell you where I live, how I live, and how I get the fungus gnats. I live in New Hampshire (cold/low humidity), all year around I keep the temperature in my home 83’F and up-because I have a lot of tropical plants. My fungus gnats enter my home through my window screens during the summer months. I live in a wooded area. The gnats and ladybugs planet house in my plants during that time, then I have the entire winter to fight with them. I am always the WINNER, because I use: Triple Action Plus II by: Fertile-Lome Whom ever is interested, go on Amazon research and decide. The bottle is pricey, but the recommended dose reads 1 Tablespoon per 1 gallon of water. So the bottle will last a long time. Put the treatment in a spray bottle (for leaves) or water right through to the dirt. My really bad infested plants gets one treatment per week. The least infested plants gets every 2-4 weeks treatment. I don’t stop giving the treatment, because the treatment is a preventative also. I have 300 indoor plants, I start to see results in 2 weeks but I keep giving the treatment, because I want to kill the eggs too. The fungus gnats will leave the plants and start flying around for a new home, they will eventually die. In the past I have used Pure Neem Oil but the above mentioned product works best for me. Hi Nell! Fungus gnats are now all over the place, especially since I started organic gardening. They seem to love rich soil - compost and worm castings. Well, I'm going to try hydrogen peroxide to get rid of them, because they're beginning to be a pain in the 'you know what'. Hi Marc - Yes, they are a pain "you know where"! The fizzing action fills the eggs & the larvae, pretty fast. The adults will die out or you can use the sticky traps. We used hydrogen peroxide on all sorts of plants so I'd say it would be fine. Both of those plants are pretty tough. Greetings back to you from the Arizona desert, Nell

Hi - I never water from down below because many times the roots don't go down that far, especially in bigger plants. Over fertilization looks like a plant has been burned & also the ends of the leaves are brown usually with yellowing above that. Nell
