    People often forget that the Rockets won so many games against the big teams(The Kings, Denver) in the beginning of the season when Alpi and Jalen were both playing together. Then the Rockets started loosing games because Jalen started performing badly. His shots were not dropping in. That is as simple as that.

      @@mbell7498 Fred also had long stretches of bad shooting after that first burst of good play. So it wasn't just Jalen and Alpi. Jalen gets the most attention because at the time he was the least efficient and was getting benched for giving up on defense when he was having a bad game. Also at the time the bench was struggling because Tari was out and Cam and Amen weren't playing alot for various reasons, and Landale was unplayable back then due to his concussion and ankle injuries.

    • @williamdavis9562
      @williamdavis9562 Před měsícem +4

      These two can certainly co-exist and in the long term will be beneficial to not only the team but also both of these players.
      For the entire season teams were only double teaming Sengun and it took him a while to figure it out. If Jalen can stay hot and garner more double teams, Sengun's game will also open up.
      Both of them firing on all cylinders will be a nightmare for teams to defend.
      The biggest problem isn't fitting Sengun and Jalen together. Our biggest problem Imo is going to be trying to find a way to get Amen Thompson into the starting 5. Thompson's relentless defense, steals, deflections and the fact he runs like a dear is what is helping us so much with our pace and transition points. Not Sengun being out.

    One more thing about this run this young Rockets team is on.
    As a long time NBA fan, the way they've played in the past 10 games reminds me a lot of the 2000 New Jersey Nets. If you have enough guys on the court who can run the floor with elite speed and athleticism, some nights you can simply run teams into the ground.
    That NJ Nets team made it to the finals by simply running all the time, 4 out of their 5 starters couldn't shoot a lick. Not to mention they had a center who was in relative terms A LOT slower than Sengun. Having one slow guy on your team will not prevent you from being an elite transition team, you don't need 5 guys running the floor.
    I'm hoping long term we can field a lineup with Amen, Whitmore and Green (Not sure how we'll do that though). With three guys like this who are absolutely freakish athletes, we're automatically a top 5 transition team. For this to happen over the next two season Amen has to up his ball handling/playmaking skills and Cam Whitmore needs to turn himself into a defender who is close to being on par with Dillon Brooks. Amen developing his deep shot a bit won't hurt either.
    We have the building blocks, we just need some of the younger guys to add a few extra elements to their game.

    • @KyouOneZilla
      @KyouOneZilla Před měsícem +1

      @@emrahduman8783 If the rockets don't resign Tate and also let Jeff Green retire, they could give rookie extensions to both Alpi and Jalen Green and still have about 10million in cap room before hitting the luxury cap. They will most certainly give 1 of them the rookie extension, but they may hold off on the other in order to give them a regular max in the next offseason. Freeing up that 2nd rookie max extension for Amen Thompson at a later date. It would also allow them to trade for a player on a rookie max extension without having to send 1 of the 2 out since you can only have 2 at a time.
      Also don't forget the salary cap takes a huge jump in the 2025 offseason (at least 10 mil compared to now), and that's the season we could decline Fred's option and try to get him back on a smaller contract (say mid 20's) to create more room for the young guys.

    I think people aren't being far too simplistic on this Sengun being out issue.
    Right now the rockets are defending better and running better in large part due to Thompson being on the floor with the starting lineup. This kid affects the way we play more than we realize. His relentless pressure on defense, his deflections and steals start a lot of fast breaks. Not to mention having 2 guys who run like a gazelle during transition has turned us into a high pace team.
    So the question isn't will Sengun fit into this and keep this high tempo style of play up. It is how are we going to keep Thompson in the starting lineup when Sengun returns. Can we afford to bench Dillion who himself is a defensive dynamo.
    Our normal starting 5 simply isn't equipped to run a world class fast break. We only have Jalen Green in that starting 5 who runs like a dear. When we add Thompson, now you have two guys who can get up the court in a hurry which is enough to run the break. If in the future we add Cam Whitmore into the lineup then we'll have 3 speedsters.
    The front office has a lot of flexibility in how to build this team out going forward, we have tons of draft picks and assets to trade. Over the next few years I think Dillon Brooks is going to be the oddman out of the starting lineup.

That might not be the clearest way of explaining it. I watched a video of Chris Paul explaining the point guard position. That's where I got this idea. Ime did great bringing Fred in to teach the players the right way. 3's can play shooting guard too and Tari can play some power forward. Some people are even suggesting Amen is playing small ball center right now. I'm not sure about that but he sure is getting a lot of rebounds.

Rockets are more athletic, taller, bigger, better play makers, and I also believe better defensively. If Rockets were healthy all year they'd be a top 6 team already imo. LeBron, KD, Steph, Kawhi, etc are fading out and the new blood of Jokic, SGA, Ant, Luka, Zion, Ja, Booker, Fox, etc are taking over out West. Rockets have the pieces to play and beat those teams especially with Adams coming along, a Nets pick, and offseason pickups.

It probably gets looks based on creating controversy but in the long run they look bad and lose credibility. I expect them to use Sengun further away from the basket and a lot more movement next year anyhow. One narrative someone put out there was that the real difference you are seeing is that the defense is better without Sengun. I need to run some stats to comment on that - but I doubt it. The Rockets are playing better, it is not because Alpi got injured nor Jalen's 3pt percentage got better. The winning streak is related to Amen being in the starting lineup and doing amazing job both in the defense and on the offense. Amen is the type of a player who runs nonstop and makes the cuts all the time. Jalen's never had a desire to cut as much as Amen. Therefore Alpi+Amen combination will be much more effective than Alpi+Jalen combination. The toughest question , when Alpi recovers from the injury and gets back to the team and Amen to start in the starting lineup, who should be in the bench? Jabari Smith or Dillon Brooks?

    Sengun = Good player but Bad fit. Unless my eyes are deceiving me the Rockets pace and defense has improved and we are winning which is the end goal. Between Amen and Landel both are playing with higher energy/intensity than Sengun on a night to night basis. 1 through 5 can lock up and close out on 3 pointers on the perimeter. Beyond Sengun's lack of defensive paint presence he tends to get lazy with pick and roll switches and letting stretch bigs shoot wide open threes. Most importantly the spacing is open for Jalen and co to go to work. What was killing us was Sengun's paint defense and the slow pace from dumping the ball into the paint while everyone was out of rythm and standing around most nights. It's seems we're finally playing (Rockets) basketball by uping the tempo and shooting threes at a high clip instead of grinding in the post all game to lose in the end. Sengun gets a ton of points from those constant touches from Fred but we we're still losing between the out of wack pace and lack of defensive paint presence the trade off of playing with or without him is substantially better without him in totality.
