- I finally finished Evolve Artist block 3! All that's left now is to mosey on over to New Jersey and start the next leg of my Evolve journey. I'm so proud of all the progress I've made and the fact that I've even stuck it out this long. My life hasn't been filled with a lot of confidence in myself and my ability to see things through so this is an especially exciting achievement for me. Cheers to everyone who has supported me. Let's keep growing together!

About Me:
Hi, I'm Mithril and I'm learning how to draw! I've gone through many resources and practiced for many hours going from complete beginner to...wherever I am now, haha. If you're interested in following my journey, subscribe and see where I go! Remember that talent is a myth! - Zábava
I'm happy to see your progress, seems you've found a method/program for learning to draw/paint that really suits you and keeps you coming back to it even when you're super frustrated with your results, that's awesome honestly. You should be really proud of yourself for how far you've come :). I'm really looking forward to how much you'll progress in the next 12 months of doing live classes and all that, very exciting.
It's amazing to see your progress throughout the year! So excited to see where this journey will take you.
I think you can use a piece of plastic or non-absorbent surface instead of canvas to check color and you won't need to replace it that way. Mark Carder has a video on where he talks about color checkers and how to make your own, I used two glued layers of balsa wood which can be cut using an exacto knife to make mine. There are also a bunch of DIY tutorials on the internet
That sounds like fun! I've never heard of something like that before, but I'll definitely look into it.
I have watched your progress in the evolve program from before you moved to NJ, It has been amusing and informative. As for stressing about everything - it is just your personality. I can see your growth.
You could totally change the colors if you wanted, it's oil paint. It goes in layers. It's one of the most forgiving mediums out there
So excited for you! It's great to see all your progress over the year, too. ❤
Thank you JS!!
Hopefully the apartment subleasing is worked out soon. I know it's been very involved lately.
Good luck with your move!
Thank!!
Thanmyou for sharing this!: ) so brave of you, and you are doing great! Your struggles are universal and I also struggle with values, I think EVERYONE does...its just that, famous pro artists struggle just a little better than we do, for now! Soon, we will struggle like a pro! Keep it up! 💯
Color matching takes practice. Someone suggested to me to go to a paint store, as in house paint, and get paint chips to try to match. That was for watercolor, but it will work with oils too.
That sounds cute! I've always loved looking at those color swatches
@@Mithrilda I love looking at all the colors lol
Nice video ^^
Duuuude I was waiting for this video!! I would also love to see a video about your art before and after Evolve. I’m seriously considering enrolling in this program after becoming a CPA (studying right now!) 😆
Oooh good luck on your CPA studies! My mom does accounting too!
Your painting is outstanding,
For the extra canvas part, you could cut parts of the canvas in some of the smaller that didn't take the that much space on the canvas.
Also how often are you going to be uploading now that you are officially an art student (TM)? Looking forward so much to these videos! ❤️
I'm not really sure lool, I'm aiming for between a video every week to a video every month depending on how much I have to say and how much free time I'll have. Art first!
I wish I could be just as proud as you for my artworks. 💓
I worked hard on it and I know I could do it again if I wanted to. That builds a lot of confidence! Before, I just stumbled into stuff that looked good by pure luck. That didn't make me feel any better because it was just luck, not something I could do again. Now I know that I can feel good, I just need to be spending my time building the right skills. Good luck to you, I know you got it.
@@Mithrilda thank you for your inspirational speech. Of course when you start off on a new journey for a new skill, it is difficult and hard to trust and be confident upon, but as time grows and more skill to create, then confidence becomes the matter.
do not judge your work against others, their highlights was way blown out, definitely do not compare that, it was not a shadow it was a light at that point
Point the lights at your ceiling and walls. That way they aren't so direct. It's a photographer trick.
use the edge of an old canvas if its got no paint on it
stop being so hard on yourself.. your doing phenomenal!
damn already been a year, time flies
I know right? I think part of that is the pandemic...everything has felt so samey for a long time...
I am firm believer that pure talent is a myth and am on a similar path as you as far as self taught. Would love an update from you as not sure I've found your most recent video!
It’s not a myth lol
I don’t think yours looks inferior. It’s just darker, basically. You have all the reflections there, so it’s not like it looks flat or anything. I like it. It’s more moody.
Thank you, I appreciate it! I think it looks nice, it just didn't follow the assignment which was matching the photograph. I want to be able to make choices in my art deliberately, not stumble into something nice by making mistakes because that wouldn't be repeatable.
You're working in oil paint aren't you? Why can't you just paint over it to correct the colour? Oil is workable to just paint over top. Like when you noticed the colour was off, why not just remix it and fix it right then?
Well, it was halfway dried up and I didn't want to risk messing it up all the way. For some reason the black paint dries really fast
You are improving fast!!!
But rotating canvas often while drawing is not a good habit.
Try to draw without moving the canvas.
First, you ll be uncomfortable with hand posture and brush stroke.
But you will get used to it later.
Here at the studio, Kevin teaches us to rotate the canvas. And thank you!
@@Mithrilda Ok
I think they are lacking in giving the extra information the student needs.
