I must have watched your particular build-up 3x before i attempted my own version of it,i don't think it's as sharp as yours and i think the particles are too feathered but it wasn't a bad 1st attempt,i even managed the breakdown (Simply reversed the footage again).

i got a problem... the FORM effect don't apears in my effects panel, what can i do? any similar effect?
It´s a third party plugin that is not included in After Effects. You have to purchase it through Red Giant Software or use the trial version (renders with a watermark though). There is no alternative effect in AE.

Does this only work with high contrast sources? Would this work to convert colorful, 2d waves into 3d (it's refusing to work following these steps)?
Rocksteady Gaming you need some contrast. But you can increase the contrast in your map composition
