I agree -- her hair is really pretty the way it is. I think it would be great if more of these young women used wigs for their fashion colours. They can't be much more expensive than the cost of destroying your hair and having to live with that!

Oh what she said about salons is so true,and it’s everywhere not only USA… I think every salon should have a color only hairstylist,someone who learned the chemistry and has good eye for color, not every person has that talent. You wouldn’t go to a tattoo artist who doesn’t know how to make portrait tattoo to do your portrait tattoo, it shouldn’t be different for your hair.

That is a thing. I sell myself as a blonde ‘professional,’ I really enjoy doing blondes, so that’s the side of hairdressing I try to learn more about. Not interested in other colours really so I don’t market myself towards them.
That's not really feasible unless you want salon prices for other services to skyrocket. Stylists have to eat too and nobody is getting fed doing only blow outs or only cuts. Also you can multi seat clients if you got a color cooking, you squeeze in a trim or style. You can't really fit 2-3 chemical services at the same time.
Same reason you don't see manicure only nail techs unless they are charging like $50 for a spa experience. You can't survive on cheap services alone and expensive ones won't fill your book either
They exist but they tend to be more expensive, many years ago I went to one all she did was color , bleach and color corrections if you wanted a haircut another hairstylist would cut your hair . You can always call around and ask if they a colorist working on their salon .
You are totally right about finding a niche! My sister got really really skilled at extensions and brings home the big bucks haha she takes many classes and even developed her own method of installing them. She has a waiting list of clients and only had to work a couple days a week. Now she buys bulk orders of extensions and sells them to other stylists while also teaching them how to do it. It’s pretty amazing
When I went to my stylist Jan. 10, 2023 another stylist was putting in extensions in her clients hair. The extensions were highlights. It was amazing. I had never seen this done before. What a great way to do highlights on long hair.

I love. Love. Love the blue ends. They break up the color. When I used to go to the salon, sometimes my beautician would ask another stylist to do something, or just refer you to a different stylist all together. Like If there is a style she couldn’t cut. There is no shame in wanting to not eff up something.

We were actually taught this in college (I did hair & beauty back in 2005/2006/2007) they told us that we can’t be amazing at everything so to pick a ‘niche’ & concentrate on that once qualified. They said exactly what you did, it’s better to be the best at something then ‘meh’ at everything. Lots of my class after qualifying went into barbering or wedding hair specifically or just doing spa/beauty treatments. Nobody stuck to doing both hair AND beauty.

I totally agree! Personally I love colour so when I’m qualified I’m gunna set myself up as a mainly colour work salon. There’s just so much you need to learn and it’s ok to not love every aspect :)

Quick Blue is easy to get at Sally's the non pro beauty supply store here in the US. I use it,but use Olaplex #1 to temper the damage and never just go for it with it, Close is good enough for what I use it for. I lighten then cover it with a direct dye.

Thank you so much for the content and advice. I stopped trying to color my hair around 20 years ago after applying a dark blonde box dye to my hair and it had green undertones. I subsequently found a professional colorist and I see her every 8-9 weeks.
I do like the dark hair with teal tips. Looks great
I've been to many salons where the person cutting my hair and the person coloring it were 2 different people. I'm fine with knowing where your wheel house is and going with it!

I only have the confidence to bleach and tone my hair at home because it’s 80-90% gray and I wear a buzzcut! I bleach it white and tone with….T18!

Update on K18 hair repair mask - First impression so far is very good. my hair looks healthier and it doesn't feel so crunchy. now I know using it once wouldn't do much on the inside of the hair, but it surely did something on the outside no leave-in conditioner or oil has done for me so I'm happy so far. haven't dyed or bleached it in 2 months and I intend to keep it that way.
I would have kept the dark hair and trimmed off the green...the dark hair suits her

There are also hair extensions you can clip in that are made of human hair colored to your liking. Find a base color that works for you and have a blast with extensions!

Our profession has evolved so much than just a weave and it’s so competitive now.
The key to a fail is for them to say they are confident 😂
Plenty of people use quick blue and get awesome results.
I use to work in the industry many years ago. When I was in school I specialized in color I took extra classes and did as many colors as possible in school when I finished school I had extended education in chemicals. Then every year after I would take a refresher class in color/chemicals plus I would go to the hair conventions and take some work shops. I have many certificates to prove I had lots of completed education in chemicals. So ask your hairdresser what experience they have in color, if they had any extend education in color. A good hairdresser take refresher course and extend education to keep up with their trade.
In cosmetology school you learn the basics a little of everything but your not really specialized in chemicals. The hairdresser is legally allowed to dye and Bleach hair but it may not be a good idea to let the person put chemicals in your hair unless they have plenty if experience and extend training. It's your hair so don't be afraid to ask questions a good hairdresser doesn't mind answering you questions and giving you references of their extend education in fact they will he proud to show you all they have accomplished in their trade....
