We had so much fun making this video. Obviously this was way way back. Fun cameo is my friend Wes from American Nightmare/Cold Cave up top at the desk. The band's first video on Epitaph. I was so stoked for them. Early in my directing career, but ya'll gotta know that I grew up with Converge - all the lineups, etc - and to this day I would do anything for Jake, Kurt, Ben, and Nate. Imagine what we could do now with this concept...
Converge started out with me thinking they were garbage. I then got Jane Doe on a whim. After a 100+ listens, my mind is still blown every time I listen to that album. Over time, Converge has become one of my favorite bands.
Had the same reaction. I was intrigued though cuz for me it was almost like they took this super punky style to a it’s heaviest limits. Plus the guitarist playing the rickenbacker caught my eye as a very unusual choice.
Lyrics In new day dreams a promise gives way To a star struck death and a gold disease A hollywood end for a once great man Who found death on his knees Cashed in crashed and burned Sore sour sore Our eagles become our vultures I've searched with pen and paper I search to show you Just how far I broke from myself In the name of fear and doubt In a better world there would be a better me Without the chase that won't leave me be Wolves at my door keep all your wars I'm going home to bed I've paid more death then you will ever live
Jake Bannon (lead singer) is my cousins husband and in irl he's actually a super chill person and he has a kid who just turned 2, so I know him somewhat well which is kinda funny to me.
polarizer He seems like a great person to know. I hope you get some quality time together. He makes a lot of art that I appreciate and helps me through tough times. He's a strong and thoughtful person
I remember seeing this video on the DVD for the "Punk-O-Rama 10" compilation in 7th grade and thinking, "Holy shit... I had no idea music could even be this heavy." Thank you Converge!
you are so obviously right.. in all the past 13 years that i have played piano, with various styles of songs from classical to metal, i have never played more "then" 4 chords. this is very little diversity in converge's playing style. i also love how you went through comments way back to fuck who knows when to comment on this.
to me this is a level 5 band. to be able to appreciate a band like this you have to start with a level 0 then work your way up. here is what i mean 0- Linkin Park, A7X 1- Slipknot, Atreyu 2- August Burns Red, As I lay dying, underoath 3- Misery Signals, Between the Buried and Me 4- Dillinger Escape Plan, Black Dahlia Murder 5- Botch, Coalesce, Converge I'm not saying it has to be those bands just that each level is achieved by 1st liking the level that came before it
i remember seeing this band in a dark sweaty room the sound kept fuckin up and the mic kept cutting out but shit like that doesnt matter, a propa hardcore gig one of the best gigs ive ever been to and it cost a fiver! converge are legends in the metallic hardcore genre
don't use your diaphragm at all. scream from your throat, and shred your vocal chords. when you first start doing it try it for 20-30 seconds at a time. you gotta build up scar tissue, but you don't want to do permanent damage.
Geez this came on my shuffle for some reason and all I hear is.. "RAAAAAAARRARARARARAAAAGAGAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!" My brain cannot comprehend how people can actually enjoy this type of music.
I didn't look anything up; my friend sent me two of their vids telling me how annoying they are and I agree with him. Keep on enjoying your substandard "music", babydoll ;)
Scene kids have been around for a while, well before 1990 when converge started...haha. disco(70's?), punk(80's), metal(80's), mods, skins, etc... i just started listening to converge and i sometimes get them confused with amebix or nasuea when their older stuff comes on
@TBSunday92 Yeah, Sorry, That's probably fair, I suppose it just seems weird when other people try to define what "fits" for what and where, especially when the template we judge a band by was largely introduced or inspired by the band we're judging. it seems to sometimes cause close mindedness, but I mean, if you already like the Chariot, you can see that clear as day. Scogin is a great example of doing things in a way that might not be conventional, but is honest for the integrity of the song
@Zyriden2 it is because people have a tendency to classify everything that is not religious as satanic. pretty stupid tendency if you ask me, and i completely agree with you.
Open your music Preferences please, I love all music and A7X is one of my favorite bands and if not for them, i probably wouldnt listen to any music today, but instead, music is my life now because of them.
@PoundinThunder I understand amigo. do you like converge or did you just stumble upon this video? They're such a great live band, composed of musicians who definitely aren't in it for the girls and money. Listen to the drumming on the Dillinger Escape Plan's "43% Burnt" or Cave In's "innuendo and out the other" and let me know what you think.
@4444HD Well they incorporate metal in their sound but yeah they're not metalcore to the current meaning. Metallic hardcore. And they pioneered mathcore as well.
They play generic metalcore for scene kids. It's just breakdowns, techno, and autotuned choruses. Converge is real. Their vibe is real. They don't try to be something they're not.
@THBU85 Sorry. I don't think I meant to reply directly to your post. You made good points before, though. Norma Jean simply came in as a hardcore-only band that ripped off everyone else, then they got rid of Josh Scogin. Haha At least they finally found their sound.
Norma Jean is one of my favourite bands. Converge obviously has a strong influence on Norma Jean (Cory Putman even wears Converge). But they sound different from each other. Stop hating on Norma Jean.

One of my favorite music videos. Never caught the Wes Eisold cameo until now. Sick.
Well this concept is evergreen. There will always be office work culture.
That's bad ass! I have a No Heros tat
Converge started out with me thinking they were garbage. I then got Jane Doe on a whim. After a 100+ listens, my mind is still blown every time I listen to that album. Over time, Converge has become one of my favorite bands.

the one right before jane doe is my favorite
All their previous albums before jane doe are just as good lmao tf
I got amped magazine and they were on the sampler with this in like 2006 and I was hooked
Same here! At first I wanted to sell their "Caring and Killing" compilation😅
This is the best rendition of Office Space ever.
Hahahahahhaha unappreciated comment of the decade
Lmao been watching this video for close to a decade easily (if not more) but never really noticed this comment. Brilliant work, dude
The Drummer is such a beast!!!!
this was one of the bands that made my middle school years, and still my favorite music video to this day.
Classic Converge.
this video scared the hell out of me at age 10. Now… Thanks Converge, for years and years worth of inspiration!
Napalm Death sound in its old school finest form.... I love it so much!!!!!
I remember going to Barnes and Noble at the mall grtting amp magazine with the free CD all the time. Love you
Lyrics
In new day dreams a promise gives way
To a star struck death and a gold disease
A hollywood end for a once great man
Who found death on his knees
Cashed in crashed and burned
Sore sour sore
Our eagles become our vultures
I've searched with pen and paper
I search to show you
Just how far I broke from myself
In the name of fear and doubt
In a better world there would be a better me
Without the chase that won't leave me be
Wolves at my door keep all your wars
I'm going home to bed
I've paid more death then you will ever live
No
This used to sound like noise to me but a few years on and I've realised how awesome Converge are.
I love the drum tone on this album.
This song came on a free DVD in a metal mag then a was a kid blow my dam mind!!! when at the time was listen to Slipknot \ korn stuff 👌🏻
I got to see converge years ago. I was never too in to their music but man they put on a killer show
Glorious 360p.
Michel ahahaha
One of the greastest bands in history of Hardcore..
One of the best songs ever. Sick video too.
my intro to converge, this video was on some compilation i had back in the day
Great song, Great Band. If you disagree. Stop watching their songs.
LOVE this song. The video matches it perfectly as well. Converge always impress.
Tell him to hook me up with a place to stay in Salem and do Jiujitsu with me. Thanks in advance.
Why hasn't this got a lot of views? People are afraid of good music.
I remember seeing this video on the DVD for the "Punk-O-Rama 10" compilation in 7th grade and thinking, "Holy shit... I had no idea music could even be this heavy."
Thank you Converge!
thats how i found out about them. 11 years old, had no clue what metalcore or hardcore was. Thanks Epitaph.
Imagine being on a rooftop seeing a metalcore band perform while dave grohl tapes a man to a table
The energy is so shrill and manic, fuckin love it
The song that got me into converge 🤟
This is what made me a converge fan back in the day
Such a great singer.
So very awesome. Hardcore with meaning.
this is one of those songs you can only play with the volume up to 11.
2019 anyone! Banggerzzzz
@PoundinThunder we watched the same vid. i'm not a drummer, so perhaps i'm out of my element. but i enjoy the drumming. it makes me happy.
I remember seein this for the first time on a punkorama 8 dvd or one of them. Such a good band
you are so obviously right.. in all the past 13 years that i have played piano, with various styles of songs from classical to metal, i have never played more "then" 4 chords. this is very little diversity in converge's playing style.
i also love how you went through comments way back to fuck who knows when to comment on this.
57 people can't handle the amazingness of converge
Not exactly the genre I usually listen to, but I can't deny the fact that they are some crazyass time signatures and these guys have fucking talent.
This entire song except for the drum intro is 4/4, these guys just know how to groove.
Bagels become vultures
Beagles become vultures
Fake Hipster smeagels becomes vultures
Shmebals shmebrum shmblumplers
Kegels become vouchers
to me this is a level 5 band. to be able to appreciate a band like this you have to start with a level 0 then work your way up.
here is what i mean
0- Linkin Park, A7X
1- Slipknot, Atreyu
2- August Burns Red, As I lay dying, underoath
3- Misery Signals, Between the Buried and Me
4- Dillinger Escape Plan, Black Dahlia Murder
5- Botch, Coalesce, Converge
I'm not saying it has to be those bands just that each level is achieved by 1st liking the level that came before it
i must be retarded i went from 0 to 5
Converge always has THE best instrumentals
I agree
I came here because I Google "do eagles become vultures"
ironically enough, you have the same name as the dude who fronts Isis, SUMAC and Old Man Gloom
@@willpowerbroken how is that ironic?
This shit freaked me out when i was 14. Now im hooked
i remember seeing this band in a dark sweaty room the sound kept fuckin up and the mic kept cutting out but shit like that doesnt matter, a propa hardcore gig one of the best gigs ive ever been to and it cost a fiver! converge are legends in the metallic hardcore genre
EPITAPH PLEASE UPLOAD AN HD VERSION!
beautiful sounds
How does one even scream like that
don't use your diaphragm at all. scream from your throat, and shred your vocal chords. when you first start doing it try it for 20-30 seconds at a time. you gotta build up scar tissue, but you don't want to do permanent damage.
Chris Seigler thanks
Chris Seigler I am not an expert and am trying to be polite but how can you not do permanent damage if you don't use your diaphragm?
Caleb Bliss Possibly some sarcasm is afoot. I dunno.
He eats glass :P
I'm listening to this while watching a webinar at work. Fuck me.
I agree. I have it on DVD so I can't complain.
Geez this came on my shuffle for some reason and all I hear is.. "RAAAAAAARRARARARARAAAAGAGAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!" My brain cannot comprehend how people can actually enjoy this type of music.
"He was a quiet man..."
@pickymcgee because converge is too good for people to realize how amazing they are
I didn't look anything up; my friend sent me two of their vids telling me how annoying they are and I agree with him.
Keep on enjoying your substandard "music", babydoll ;)
I was so cool when I was 14 years old. ✌♥️
I miss you high school
Why? Why is there a Puffs Plus w/Lotion commercial before a Converge video? There is no god. I'm convinced.
I'm glad we can differ in opinions
this song is better than coffee.
next time i need to be weirded out so much that I won't be able to sleep I'll night, I'll turn to converge..
Scene kids have been around for a while, well before 1990 when converge started...haha. disco(70's?), punk(80's), metal(80's), mods, skins, etc... i just started listening to converge and i sometimes get them confused with amebix or nasuea when their older stuff comes on
Still love this fucking song after so manny years. I love that spastic dissonant hardcore.
CONVERGE RULE
Awesome song period.
fav song.....still

why does this only get over a hundred thousand views and then escape the fate gets 1o million? Aint right
No one rocks mustaches like a mid oughts hardcore band. Goddamn. This shit rips so hard still.
awesome video
"Our eagles become our vultures!"
#YouFailMe
Does anyone else think that the main actor looks kinda like Keanu Reeves
Nope
At first, I thought it was David from Foo Foghters.
He does
I think it's a mix of Keanu & Trent Reznor somehow :D
Racist.
@TheLANDADDY Don't know, they're obviousley both amazing.
@scmshtbrady your completly right, its a rickenbacker that he put a new pickguard onto
@skullkrushr93 If you actually watch them play live, you can see a good portion of the audience singing along.
Great song!
Interesting breakdown.
@thelivingfire I don't think I could have phrased that any better myself, thank you.
@Zyriden2
it is because people have a tendency to classify everything that is not religious as satanic. pretty stupid tendency if you ask me, and i completely agree with you.
I feel that way going into my current job.
There is absolutely nothing different.
Open your music Preferences please, I love all music and A7X is one of my favorite bands and if not for them, i probably wouldnt listen to any music today, but instead, music is my life now because of them.
@PoundinThunder I understand amigo. do you like converge or did you just stumble upon this video? @betweenthecolors old PTW too

@ThinCrustPizza67 not if you look up the lyrics. i do not have a problem understanding them.
@WestfaliaBalla I pick c: both a and b
Thanks for clarifying.
@smurf88 What i meant is that Jacob's hardly singing, more barking.
@THBU85 Sorry. I don't think I meant to reply directly to your post. You made good points before, though. Norma Jean simply came in as a hardcore-only band that ripped off everyone else, then they got rid of Josh Scogin. Haha At least they finally found their sound.

Converge obviously has a strong influence on Norma Jean (Cory Putman even wears Converge).
But they sound different from each other.
Stop hating on Norma Jean.
i think its funny that one comment sparked some huuuggee debate lol
