I remember being in summer school the day this fight took place my sophomore year. I could not wait until the sun fell that night as I was looking forward to seeing this fight for months. Oh the memories! 🥊
Oscar De La Hoya had one of the most underrated jabs in boxing history. Whenever he decided to go to it, no matter who his opponent was, that jab worked wonders. Floyd Mayweather said himself that Oscar's jab was a problem and he couldn't understand why Oscar abandoned his jab when they fought. Chavez had no answer for it in either of their fights.
Cortez didn’t wanna see an absolute legend get dismantled anymore! But, Chavez has ALWAYS had some assistance from the 3rd man in the ring. Richard Steel…C’mon!
Chavez was made to look a shot fighter in this one by the far younger and naturally bigger, faster opponent. Was really just a money making fight in the end.
18:15 I would disagree with George, I don't think Chavez was any more aggressive in round 1 than he usually was in previous fights. He looked like he was sticking to the plan. I think this was a mistake because Oscar kept tagging him with unanswered jabs, but he didn't deviate too far from his game plan.
@@jasonbantle Oscar was at his absolute peak in that 3 fight span between the Chavez 1, Miguel Angel Gonzalez, and Whitaker fights. After that he fell off a little because he started facing soft competition. Meanwhile, the guy De La Hoya fought wasn't the same Chavez who knocked out Roger Mayweather, Edwin Rosario, and Meldrick Taylor. You would know this if you actually knew about boxing.
Chavez already had an injured eyebrow he was told by his training staff to cancel this fight but i guess chavez didn't want to lose a good payday perhaps if chavez would've been at 100 it would've been a different fight
Stop ✋🏿 all the excuses! JCC got his a$$ whipped! When he wins y’all give him all kinda credit! Sweet 🫛 was cheated ! So was Meldrick ! Beat dat butt Oscar !!! 🙌🏾

Great excuses
Best coach Oscar ever had? He looked sharper than usual.
Chavez thought he could let a guy 10 years younger than him punch himself out. He was wrong.
Shut up
Can we give it up for John Secada?? 👏🏽 🎉

Every round. And the cut wasn't that big an issue. The rematch proved it.
The rematch proved De La Hoya could beat a battle-worn Chavez at the end of his career.😂😂

@@jasonbantle and DLH didn't beat Chavez at his best.
