You should do auto add for the ascension because it wil let you use the least amount of xp possible. it doesnt matter if its purple books or white books. all of it counts as xp. when i saw you wasted 15k xp because you wanted to "save" purple books i cringed so hard

and one more tips for you : buy some white xp books from teapot. it will help you save some xp when you do the ascension. instead of 4-5k xp wasted you might waste 600 and below xp. thats a big save there
