  • By the time the babies are a month old, they can be switched from formula to mashed/soft fruits. When parents feed the baby birds, it is a soft mash that the babies mostly just swallow. They have to learn to “chew” foods before they swallow and will be most happy if introduced to teeny pieces of fruit at this stage. Yet, it is important to begin weaning them off the formula or syringe feeding.
I prefer introducing them to soft, mashed fruit which is easier to feed by hand (you can just press it with your hand without letting the juices drip - banana is idea at this stage). This overcomes their reluctant for solid foods and also encourages them to “chew” a bit without having to put in too much effort. Once they have fledged (at 6 weeks of age), you can gradually shift them to small pieces of food. The baby here has just fledged and is being weaned off hand-feeding.
