Nili accidentally roping himself in as a full time production member of a large e-sport tournament while on vacation is the most nili thing ever 11
The story of Nili organizing a Vietnamese restaurant in Berlin to call BacT on the maledives airport killed me 11111111
I literally cried 11111111
And you won't believe it... But it didn't work 11111 Classic Nili.
Those videos are gold!
Amazing content. Please keep this up, Nili and you are an incredible pairing!
Nili going to the Maldives for a vacation and sleeping in the workers' dorm, negotiating with customs security with a Vietnamese restaurant owner in Germany, adminning a separate Starcraft tournament-- just absolutely hilarious. The two of you are just great people and an irreplaceable part of the AOE2 scene.
As a person who started playing aoe2 relatively recently, I love this type of stories. It gives more weight to the people (aside from players) who actually made things happened.
what a beautiful trip down memory lane!
it's always fun to look back at the days when we all hung out all night on the voobly teamspeak server (mbl, smarthy, odette, superbua, t90, taff, nimanoe, dave, bullet, gracie, etc.) until in november 2015 taff asked me "there's this new platform called discord, can you help me set up a server for voobly on it?" which marked the end of teamspeak and the rise of discord, so it seemed taff already had the right feeling in his guts where discord would go.
I also vividly remember when t90 had his first casts on the vooblyofficial twitch stream and everyone was like "who is this new guy", unable to expect what this guy would mean to scene just a couple years later
can't believe this all happened almost a decade ago, and despite a lot of the old names leaving (killer_b, where are you? 😢), we still have a lot of the same people keeping the game alive, in the possibly most friendly and mature gaming scene that is still steadily growing
I miss killer_b
1111 never knew it was masmorra on kripps stream
NILIIIIIIIIII♥
Great stories, this needs to be an ongoing series! Really entertaining to watch! 💜
Masmora this video is public. You will be apprehended for stealing that bag
There should be a series of tournaments memory lane like this.
I loved this one specially the back stories. 😂
Loved Nili in this one, always likes his story telling skills.
GG WP guys, I am hungry for more such content. ❤️
Listening to you is so relaxing. No wonder ASMR is part of your name, mASMoRa.
I stared following the AoE scene with the release of DE but have since heard a lot of stories from before DE. So this was really interesting to get a full understanding of what happened and such. Both Masmorra and Nili are a gold mine and obviously T90 and Memb will have their stories as well. So more content like this would be much appreciated!
Keep these coming! Nili really is better than Liquipedia
Finally someone actually used our live AoE encyclopedia (Nili) and made an enjoyable long podcast out of it.
I think another pod around Escape gaming would be worthwhile. I remember hearing so much about it as a CZcams frog but never actually seeing any of it. Seemed like a major fumble of execution from what I saw (not saying it wasn't ambitious and people didn't pour everything they had into it)
Its honestly so nice listening to Nili again. What a guy.
I think it is interesting how this tournament is so fondly remembered by most of the long time community members, when it was absolute chaos.😅
great stuff as always Nelson, always nice to see Nili too ofc
Interesting watching a video on a tournament I don't remember, but I do remember the two games mentioned. I remember that double boar steal and the baltic game. Its weird to hear the drama between voobly and zeroempires as I always watched Zeroempires on the couch with my dad and we never knew about drama, but also I was never on forums at the time.
Also always a blast from the past to remember the civ meta at the time. Its imprinted on my brain and is one of the reasons I'm always grateful for DEs balance changes. I've watched enough meso and hun wars for multiple lifetimes.
I think tyrant wars is my favorite pre DE tournament, and this video reminds me to go back and watch some of those games.
This upload is just an amazing present. A blast from the past, hilarious content and seeing Nili again. Thank you for the content!
I love seeing Nili in an AoE 2 video!
Great content, guys. As someone who plays AoE since the early 2000s but only started paying attention to the competitive scene after DE was launched, it's awesome to watch videos like this. I've always wondered what the scene looked like in voobly days and it's great to hear detailed stories like this. I've enjoyed some of the GL podcasts in the past, but this video is the one that got me to subscribe. Keep the deep dives coming!
Woow, thank you so much for this video. Hearing back about Voobly, AoCZone and its drama, Taff, all the players & casters from Voobly time brings back so many memories. I'm quite sure I even played TG games on Voobly at the time with Masmorra, forever 16+ at the time lol. I only wish I could have participated in the community LAN in Belgium at the time. I think there is a very fun video (in French) from OGN still on youtube.
This was a great trip down memory lane, nice to hear some behind the scenes stories and hope you'll do this for some other tournaments as well
This was great. You guys are both good story tellers, I was engaged the entire time. I'm a newer player (Started May 2020) and I would definitely like to hear more stories from the old days!
Loved this. I wasn’t in the community until 2020 so this is great to hear about the origins
I remember being a young kid watching this, how the game has changed!
Absolutely loved this, cracked up while listening to this on the kitchen a solid dozen times. Would love to hear about some more tournament retrospective stories like this! I remember the whole event falling apart at the time but wasn't as deeply engaged with the game just yet at that point to have known how much went down, and funny situations still do happen at events even in modern day 🤣
Looking forward to attending another event at some point myself, this video brought up some great memories!
I love these history videos. It really helps to honor the past of the aoe2 scene and everyone in it and everything you all have gone through. Please do more!
i remember playing on ZeroEmpires' modded ZeroCraft minecraft server at the moment that the WSVG sponsorship and Maldives tournament were announced on the VooblyOfficial stream i had playing in the background. Good times. (this is the real obscure aoe2 lore)
Got into the competitive scene only 2 years ago so this history is amazing to hear about!! Great work y'all
Covering WIC would be awesome! That really got me back into AoE again.
this was great to watch! please do share more stories :)
Very enjoyable stories and old pics and clips :D
Fantastic video, great stories, incredible listening to it all. Kudos guys!
Great video, pretty sure all the 'engagement' Zero Empires got around this at the time is what pushed CZcams to show him in my recommended videos and slowly got me back into the game from sc2.
Amazing content! Looking forward to next tournaments
Guys this was incredible. Love all your work. Good to see Nili ❤
Great Video, thank you!
I hope it performs well, I would love to get other deep dives into AoE-History.
BTW great chemistry between you two!
This was such a good video, id love to see more!
Loved the video Masmorra and Nili!!! I always enjoy hearing about the history of this history game!!! :D Thanks a lot for this video!
trip down memory lane but loved the images/ vids
Great video! Would love to see more of these!
Absolutely loved this content. I always think that the escape games tournament is so underrated for what it was at that time. Would be great for a next episode.
Covering the tournament that got me into AOE esports? nice! I'm eager to have my memory of it refreshed and hear all your additional insights :)
You did a great job on history here! Loved your easy narrating, really chill and pleasant to listen to. Thx for sharing O.O
really enjoyed this video, had no idea about this tournament! would love to learn about other previous aoe2 tourneys (and drama ofc, always drama 😆)
Keep this kind of content coming! It reminds us how lovely and genuine people in this community are.
Love this video and seeing Nili again is awesome! 👍🏻
Please do more of this!
I loved this story time 11, i only came across aoe2 in 2020 so i had no idea of this treasure of aoe2 history. Thanks and nice to see Nili :)
Such an entertaining video. Hope to see more of this, for example the Escape Champions League.
More deep dives, please! This was great!
I would love to hear more about those older stories! Maybe its possible t get some of the others from the old Tyrant days into that discussion too? Anyway, thanks for the Video, enjoyed it!
Such a great story!! Cant wait for more like this. Would love to hear more about escape gaming
Great video!! Please keep it going!!
Nili is such a legend, cant believe i didnt like him at the start
hey mom
This was an incredibly entertaining video
Great to see u and Nili chatting -- more of that please
Really enjoyed this! I only found out aoe2 was still a thing about 3 years ago, so I'm a bit sad I missed being a viewer during all these shenanigans! Thanks for taking to time to tell us :) I'd be interested to hear the stories of the different teams over the years; since I've been watching it's seemed like GL are the only 'real' team, and all the others are basically just groups of friends. Have there been many other serious teams?
Please do more of those videos. I play Age of Empires since 1998, but wasn't following the scene properly up until one of the HD-DLCs was released. I remember trying to watch one of the World Cyber Games tournaments, but the website was mostly in korean (which I can't read) and video streaming back then in rural germany was not feasible. I later tried to watch some recs I got my hands on, but they wouldn't work, I think because of differenes in the languages used. But of cource, that is all without the behind the scenes infos that you guys have. I remeber WSVG for their Quake 4 tournaments, but even back then they didn't have the best of reputations. I didn't know they came back and became an actual scam ;)
Already waiting for the next episode
I have only been around for a year give or take so I know nothing about all these old tournaments. Have to say, these old aoe2 stories are really doing it for me. I found this podcast very enjoyable, also great to see Nili. Would definitely watch more of this.
NILIIIIII! Always excited to see you
Can’t watch this rn but definitely gonna watch it all! So interested in this period of the game.
Such a good podcast
More of this and great to see Nili.
More of this kind of video and more with Nili!
Thx for sharing that story
great podcast, The thief story is hillarious lmao
Instead of (or additionally to) a podcast format, you could recast some of the classic games from these tournaments. I think there once was something similar on Nili's channel.
Great Content ❤❤
history of a history based game is THE history we want, yes more please!
Please keep them coming!!! 😶🌫
tbh this entire Event sounds like it was planned by Daut.
The war is coming deep dive, yes please, this was before my time, would love to learn about it
i love those kind of stories
Nili is so resourceful.
What a banger!!!
I wish you guys had been around in 1998 / 99 and that era. mainmin matty, zone, cases ladder. So much history prior to streaming has been lost to time.
with all the fails this tournament must be the origin of feelsniliman 11
so great
What I can not understand to this day, why Yo didn’t play nomad in finals vs Viper, He was 2-0, then suddenly it was 2-2, everyone predicted he had to take Nomad for the fifth game, but he chose Chaos Pit and lost 2-3.
Going to need you all to both just go ahead and do a 20 hr omnibus of all aoe2 tourneys.
This game has the most wholesome pro scene out of all eSports
More videos like this!!
after all these years we finally know who the thief was
Wow. Can’t believe back than. 2015 just 10yr. But is so big different
Looking good Nili
crazy story!
Too cool
I remember the drama back than and how WSVG felt dubious. Feels so long ago and that said, me was just a viewer / singleplayer.
would love some more vids with stories like this, maybe trying to bring in some of the competitors (Jordie hint hint)
nili will always be a f**** legend. a true aoe hero ❤
More!!!!!
more retro talks please!
Watched the video. This video deserves a better title (reflecting the chaos). Is it really clickbait if the story is actually that bizzare?
There goes an hour of my life...
Whatsapp was already a big thing in 2015, so probably Bact shared the pictures via whatsapp with nili
I guess it probably varies per country how wel Whattsapp was establishmed at that time. In Holland it was very well establishmed by then, but I wouldn't know about Germany and Vietnam.
