Yep, I've done it again, I've bought another road bike. This time a brand new Giant Propel with Shimano Ultegra mechanical and Giant's SLR 2 carbon tubeless wheels. The purpose of buying this bike will be to compare it to the Winspace T1500 I purchased at the back end of last year. Now we have a bike in a similar price bracket, so let's see how the Winspace compares to it! A full comprehensive head to head review will be coming.

Nice work Cam, and I look forward to more of your bike comparison videos. Aside from bikes from the mainstream manufacturers, it’d be really interesting to see some more left field choices like the Winspace, such as steel or Ti bikes, equipped with aero wheels. With companies like Specialized making the Aethos, and admitting that ride quality can be compromised in some modern carbon designs, it’s be interesting to see how more traditional frame designs and materials fare in your tests, and also their overall performance.

Very interesting and transparent methodology to your bike testing program. Although time measurements alone are a simple metric to compare bike "performance", have you considered modifying your metrics to normalize time against the bike physical factors such as weight/brake type/groupset, tire pressure and width, etc. You allude to that by showing the Giant's weight and reflecting it is heavier, but how does that then compare to your other testing bikes.
Since watching your channel, I am now afflicted by BAS, or Bike Acquisition Syndrome (LOL). I had bike built using a Chapter2 Tere frame with Campy Record components. Also, your bike fitting segments helped enormously in spec'ing out shorter cranks, less wide handlebars, etc. I have to say it is a tremendous road bike and thumbs up to you for recommending the frame builder.
As for Trek, I have been riding a Domane SL6 with Ultegra Disc groupset. Very comfortable bike for endurance rides; not very competent for crits. Good luck with Trek, for me I wouldn't bother, but it is a popular manufacturer

Yes in the Adv Pro 1 model the TCR is $700au more than the propel but it comes with the giant dual sided power meter and the higher end SLR1 wheels compared to the SLR2 wheels on the propel. If you compare the prices of the Adv Pro 0 bikes the propel is $500 more, they both come with exact same parts except the propel has the 42/65mm wheelset and the TCR is both 42mm, the propel also has the integrated cockpit.

Test a $5800 9kg+ tank of a Domane with stock alloy wheels (shallow alloy wheels for $5800!!!) and see if it really does ride like a magic carpet, and how it goes up hills ie could you get by with one bike being a chunky comfort endurance bike and still go okay up climbs?

I am struggling to find info on giants tires rolling resistance vs other top competitors. When my old tcr needed new rubber I switched to continental 5000tl and didn’t notice any significant difference between the giant tires to my surprise. Time to get new rubber again and can’t decide which way to go. I recently bought the Giant Propel SL0 with SRAM Red for $8500. I was really unsure as I did not consider Giant to be a builder of great bikes. I was looking at a Cervelo S5 and was about to buy it, however at $11500 that was only SRAM Force. The wheels were also better on the Giant. So for a $3000 saving I ended up with a much better spec'd bike. I find the Propel to be a very quick, nimble, and surprisingly comfortable bike that seems to roll faster than others in the peleton (I constantly have to use my brakes in the group as it rolls too well and I keep ending up the back of others). I seem to be very competitive in the crits at my local club in Brisbane. I am surprised by how good the bike is, happily surprised indeed!

That Giant ain’t that light. They are the original manufacturer and I recall copping some flack 30 years ago when I bought the 980c Cadex (which they now call their wheels) and it was a brilliant Carbon bike aluminum lugged.
I think they made the same constructed Look bike at the time.
They have always used their own factory and have built up IP and development staff from the best in the world.
Giant is considered too common by many bike snobs who like stickers over quality due to ignorance.
Nice to see you on a Giant.

To standardise for differences in your power meter so that the results are comparable, you could do a run with the exact same bike up the hill, 1 using your quarq and the other using the pedals (use your quarq bike with the power pedals on for both tests but just switch which one you're reading each time)

The reason I say this is because at the moment you don't know from that whether the Winspace is genuinely now faster since your fixes than last time, or whether your power meters are just recording different outputs so you're inadvertently putting in more or less effort making you go faster

I will test the Winspace up the hill again with just the quarq

Another great video that is making me jealous again. Still haven’t managed to get my hands on a bike for while we’re back so hearing of you getting a fourth is torture! For comparing I guess it has to be an Edmonds, but thinking of picking up a cheap second hand bike hardly used please review a Domane!

Think the Propel was due to be replaced this year, as it's a little long in the tooth. But they'll sell as many as they can make in today's market and it's small volume compared to the TCR & Revolt anyway, so replacement postponed indefinitely.
