Yep, I've done it again, I've bought another road bike. This time a brand new Giant Propel with Shimano Ultegra mechanical and Giant's SLR 2 carbon tubeless wheels. The purpose of buying this bike will be to compare it to the Winspace T1500 I purchased at the back end of last year. Now we have a bike in a similar price bracket, so let's see how the Winspace compares to it! A full comprehensive head to head review will be coming.

Hey! I recognize that guy.
Love the crossover
He's my guru.
WWBHD? Go for brand or speed?
Oh shit, it's the guy stealing my bikepath KOMs
😂💦
omg the dylan johnson cameo i fucking love it 😭😂
Excuse me! That was Backwards Hat Dylan
@@PsycoAssassin1 correct lol bhd ftw
Need the Vegan Cyclist now
“You saved $34.90.” Yessssss!
I work with a bloke who types EXACTLY like Old Mate. It's like there is honey on the keyboard
Get a $2000 bike with 105 group set ( giant tcr advanced 2 ) and compare it to the winspace 🤔🤔
You need to prank your wife next time you get a bike. Start doing your video with her in background like this one and then make sure she hears you say "just bought this bike for 12,498" and wait for her reaction. Love the videos....Trek Emonda SL 7 or Emonda SL 6 e Tap
hahaha! Good idea
Hahaha. A Dylan roast. Haha. Brilliant.
It's backwards hat Dylan. Don't get confused 😂
@@Bendersnatchling dang. Yes. You’re right. Haha.
Would love to see a Trek Madone Disk review. That thing looks epic.
Welcome back to Giant!
Emonda SLR 6/7 (project one obviously!) 👍🏻
I vote for the Emonda and compare that against your Team Machine/O2 for all rounder
Nice one, thanks for the input Andrie, I like it!
Yes, please. Emonda is a fantastic looking bike.
I would love to see a review of emonda
As an Emonda owner, I approve!
Emonda for the win!
Enjoyed that. Interested in this as I've got a Propel which feels super quick on rolling roads but is a bit heavy up a climb. So interested to see you more in depth comparison in next few weeks.
OMG cam thanks so much for buying this bike, i am going to get one in the future and have been waiting for a review cant wait to hear the long term review and thoughts on this bike
I have this bike and love it! Feels so fast and smooth on the flats! It is subject to some sketchy wind wobbles at high speed though…
I love my 2021 Propel Advanced 1. I swapped out the front 42 for a 65 and she flies on the flats! Happy riding.
Good call having Dylan on…..and that Giant is bloody heavy! My 10yr old Colnago EPS is 7.0kg with pedals, bottle cages etc.
Great video Cam - keep up the good work. You're becoming part of my Friday routine!
Great review! Glad someone is testing the Giant Propel. Btw the Giant tires are crap. Get the same tires on both bikes for the rest of the tests please.
You can onlt run approved tyres on these giant hookless rims, so limied to giant, cadex, maxxis and schwalbe pro one tle. All pirelli, vittoria and continental are on the list of specifically do not use as they will likely blow off the rim
@@johnpeterson6248 Only continental tires are not compatible with hookless. Pretty sure you can run the rest. Or test both bikes with 1 set of wheels
Absolutely please change the Wheelset !
Sending to a friend in the state's. He's been a rep for giant over 25 year's. He'll love this.
Congrats on the sponsors, its a great looking bike. Looking forward to seeing more videos
I really like this video's editing style and progress... perfect.
I currently ride a 2021 emonda sl6 disc with zipp wheels. I love it. The 2022 model with the rival group is an amazing value for what it is. I think it is a bit heavy though!
Good luck getting your hands on a Trek! Their stocking issues are some of the worst!!! Thanks for the great content Cam. I'll buy the propel off you when it's time!!
Hell yeah.!!! I’ve had this bike since Feb this year and love it. 🙌😎
I have a Trek Madone having previously had an Emonda and I love it! It's a little heavy compared to my other bike (Cervelo S3) but, it's comfortable and fast when you need it. I have the old rim brake version (it's 3 years old now) and apart from normal wear and tear on the components, I've never had a problem.
What groupset you have on it? What's the total weight? Just curious. Really love the look of the Madone.
@@enriqueDFTL Weight is around 8kgs and I have Ultegra Di2 with a 52/34 & 11/30. It is a little heavy and not the best at climbing but, I don't think shaving a kilo or so from the total weight is going to make me a better climber! Great bike though and my go to bike for any races.
I love, love, love my Emonda SL7! I did put on the Aeolus RSL one piece bar stem, different saddle, tires with latex tubes, and a power meter. If you were close by in the States or I was close by in Australia I'd let you give it a whirl.
Glad to hear that you think about getting a TREK. I`m a big fan of TREK bikes and own a few myself. I have experience on the actuel Madone, Emonda and Domane. The Emonda is by far the best bike of the 3. It is very fast, light and stiff and still comfortable. I would recommend you to get an Emonda SLR. But you have to consider that most likely you will fall in love with the Emonda and keep it :-)
Dylan part was brilliant!
I got a Propel for my birthday in June. They are a tremendous value. 90 percent the performance of my climbing bike on hills, but faster down the backside and more aero on the flats. It really comes alive when I swap in my tubular wheel set.
Best Friday vlog man. Haha. Just keeps getting better.
Cheers Nigel.
It'd be handy if you could work out a warranty transfer with the suppliers to help move the bikes on.
Trek Emonda SL 6 with rival groupset would be a good one to see
Don’t that bike weigh like 40 lbs 😂
@@kirkshammett94 about 19
@@kirkshammett94 Doesn’t matter for me when I’m 10kg overweight
I have had it for a year and unfortunately I do not recommend it :/
@@kirkshammett94 my bike without pedals on an Emonda ultegra mechanical weighs 8kg. Very reasonable price for sl 6 with mechanical grouping
Great idea! Look forward to the videos.
Trek Emonda was updated for 2021 so probably best choice for a fresh review. If you’re having trouble sourcing a 2021 I believe dealers are already selling 2022’s. The SLR6 has the top end OCLV 800 race frame with a SRAM wireless etap axs rival groupset, might be a fun bike to take a look at.
Love your videos and always excited for the next!
Nice work Cam, and I look forward to more of your bike comparison videos. Aside from bikes from the mainstream manufacturers, it’d be really interesting to see some more left field choices like the Winspace, such as steel or Ti bikes, equipped with aero wheels. With companies like Specialized making the Aethos, and admitting that ride quality can be compromised in some modern carbon designs, it’s be interesting to see how more traditional frame designs and materials fare in your tests, and also their overall performance.
I hear you mate. My consideration is eyes and getting a return on my investment. Boutique brands tend to get less interest and that impacts ad revenue and sponsorship which helps pay for the bikes. But I’m not saying no, just need to be smarter about it. 👍
I ordered an emonda just two days ago but I would really like to see some content on a 2021 Madone, just a very unique bike with a lot of frame technology...
I love my trek emonda, really good bike interested to hear your thoughts.
Very interesting and transparent methodology to your bike testing program. Although time measurements alone are a simple metric to compare bike "performance", have you considered modifying your metrics to normalize time against the bike physical factors such as weight/brake type/groupset, tire pressure and width, etc. You allude to that by showing the Giant's weight and reflecting it is heavier, but how does that then compare to your other testing bikes.
Since watching your channel, I am now afflicted by BAS, or Bike Acquisition Syndrome (LOL). I had bike built using a Chapter2 Tere frame with Campy Record components. Also, your bike fitting segments helped enormously in spec'ing out shorter cranks, less wide handlebars, etc. I have to say it is a tremendous road bike and thumbs up to you for recommending the frame builder.
As for Trek, I have been riding a Domane SL6 with Ultegra Disc groupset. Very comfortable bike for endurance rides; not very competent for crits. Good luck with Trek, for me I wouldn't bother, but it is a popular manufacturer
Really big thumbs up for your decision regarding more variety of bikes in the channel 👍 And buying and reselling may be actually a good business 😂 Bottom line is that I'm a bit disappointed by Giant's results 😮
Great video once again. Old mate is absolute GOLD......Keep him in the videos....WHAT A LAUGH. Best wishes to you and yours.
Haha cheers mate
Thanks mate, I was on the fence between a Cervelo and the Giant Propel. I went with the Propel, No regrets!!! at all!!!!, Thanks for review.🙂
love the videos, I also just brought a new bike..... again.....
Trek Madone, SL6 disc. I find it to be pretty dam fast, and so do my mates, happy to lend my XL one for testing...
In relation to which TREK to review, I own and would recommend the Madone SLR9 Disc. Definitely NOT cheap but an excellent bike both aerodynamically and weight wise.
Cam you are absolutely stacked
Love the video Cam! Keep the Giant Propel vids coming! Have been thinking about buying one for a while, as a very happy Giant TCR rider. Would love to hear you talk about;
- comfort
- handlebar (not too thick?)
- aerodynamics
- descending/steering capabilities
Keep the great work up!
Cheers mate and will do
I put some 50mm hypers on my TCR and it was a great upgrade
Apart from the creaking which I fixed by regreasing the pawls following Cams recent video , they are now running well and feel quick and stiff
“You’re not here to do the script?”, the interaction with the LBS dude, Dylan, was so funny! Looking forward to further comparisons of these two boat anchors:)
Looking forward to the reviews! Maybe, it will be interesting to have a project building a bike at a budget to get some of the super bike feel? Maybe a lightweight bike at a budget? xD
Love to see a Madone SLR 9 eTap review! ;) No idea why, but the 2021s are more expensive on the US site than the 2022's. Good time to get a discount.
Well, since you asked, give the Trek Emonda SL7 a try. Yes, I have one and I love it, so I'm a little biased.
I was reading the comments before I got to the end of the video and people suggesting Trek so I was like yep yep yep! Then you only went and said you were going to try one at the end haha, I personally think the Propel is the similar to a Madone, so I'd love to see you review the Trek Emonda pro next!!
Yes! Cam got a Propel! Welcome to the club. Lack of Aero water bottle is disappointing though!
Great bike, I have a custom frame off build…. Actually mine is a ML, and weighs a little less than this one (17.5 lbs= 7.9kg), of course I have Sram red etap 11sp, and a few specific bits and pieces here and there. This thing is a rocket! I’ll agree with the majority of the comments…. Change the tires! I’m running gp5000tl’s, and would only consider either vittoria or pirellis as replacements. Keep us posted on how you like/dislike the bike
Hey Cam, it would be great to see a test with a Trek Emonda SLR 9 👍
Interesting that same drivetrain spec’d TCR is $700 more that the Propel. New frame, I guess. That custom Sugarloaf bike at the end tho 😍 Gold Silca cages and all!!
As far as acquiring a Trek, would go for a Madone. Plays into the same Aero/“Brick” Category. The New Emonda is pretty beefy weight wise anyways apparently.
Yes in the Adv Pro 1 model the TCR is $700au more than the propel but it comes with the giant dual sided power meter and the higher end SLR1 wheels compared to the SLR2 wheels on the propel. If you compare the prices of the Adv Pro 0 bikes the propel is $500 more, they both come with exact same parts except the propel has the 42/65mm wheelset and the TCR is both 42mm, the propel also has the integrated cockpit.
Was not expecting backwards hat Dylan!
Love it. More bikes. Great idea Cam. My vote is stick within ‘reasonable’ bike budgets. I know it’s subjective but if you were doing all Super Bikes, I’d look elsewhere. I joined your channel because of your TCR video and love your content. Keep going!
Great content!! Keep it up. Buy and review a Wilier Zero SL
It takes a lot of effort to do what you do.. you got a sub from me after viewing quite a few videos.. great work !
How about a comfort/endurance/light gravel bike like the Trek Domane? You've tested aero bikes, you've tested lightweight climbing bikes. Test a $5800 9kg+ tank of a Domane with stock alloy wheels (shallow alloy wheels for $5800!!!) and see if it really does ride like a magic carpet, and how it goes up hills ie could you get by with one bike being a chunky comfort endurance bike and still go okay up climbs?
New bike day is always exciting.
i like your direction Cam......think it will work well
would love to see a MADONE, especially after the propel
Patiently waiting for VAM O2 videos mate
Next Wed. Already loaded!
Gotta love this guy. Here i am with my second hand Aluminium Frame Ultegra Roadbike. 🙄 And yeah, that Add gave me a good chuckle. 😅🤣
And to think that you were the man to help save the rim brake (with froomy)
haha, can't buy them anymore. Except for the Factor Wait for my Factor review.
Would LOVE to see a Trek Madone on the channel! Keep up the great work Cam!
Love the bike. Cam could you do a test on the stock tires vs other top of the line tires? My tcr has the gavia race 1 ac tires. I am struggling to find info on giants tires rolling resistance vs other top competitors. When my old tcr needed new rubber I switched to continental 5000tl and didn’t notice any significant difference between the giant tires to my surprise. Time to get new rubber again and can’t decide which way to go. Also would love to see the same wheels/tires combo used on different frames to see which frame set actually is faster at whatever watt levels. I don’t think I have seen a single CZcams video where the wheelset/tire combo was consistent in testing. Keep up the good work.
Always great content. Thanks Cam! Try to put Pardus Bike in your pipeline for content. They are a big OEM for quite known brands. It would be nice to have this comparison cause their price is quite good as they dont invest on Marketing
Nice video. I’m not surprised at the Propel’s weight but gee that’s quite heavy. I guess with my gear I’d be looking at a 9kg bike. I know aero bikes are supposed to make a difference overall but I know from recent experience that a lighter bike makes me faster almost everywhere.
I’d like to see you on a Trek Emonda SL6. I think this bike is probably the best value Emonda.
Excellent choice of bike. I've got one and it rocks
Great video Cam!!! Can’t bloody believe some gits being so negative about where your bikes come from!!!! All credit to you if a manufacturer gives you products to ride!!! Wish I was in same boat 😃 but I have to say I don’t Giant bikes……just feel they look dated and especially the Propel !!! I’m not saying I’m right just my opinion!!!!
Definitely need to go for SL6 or SL7 Emonda. It’s nearly as aero as Madone and they will be in the right price point.
Cam you should use the same tyres on both bikes for the tests
Switching to CZcams in the morning and Cam has a new video out: Great start into my Friday :-) I so had to lough about Dylan and Old Man. Great one. And next to a Trek bike may I suggest to try the Canyon Aeroad? Would like to hear your thoughts on that one.
Cheers Chrissi 👍
Cam youre a legend mate, I decided to get my Systemsix after watching your in depth comparison videos. Keep it up! Cheers
👍
I just ordered the Propel Advanced SL 2.
I would love to hear your thoughts on the Trek Emonda SL 6 eTap, and the new Sram Rival groupset.
Would be interesting to redo the tests but swapping the wheels between the 2 bikes, to give a clearer indication of whether it's the frame or the wheels. I suspect the winspace wheels are considerably lighter than the wheels on the Giant.
Keep up the good work 👍
Yes will do so for the head to head review 👍
a guy in my local group ride got one of these yesterday....it looks sick!
ENJOY IT!!!
We love bikes. Is natural we want more.
Hey Cam! I would love to see the new Emonda tested. Light weight with changes to aerodynamics over the previous generation.
Men this propel is so damn heavy !
I'm very happy that my Winspace T1500 disc with the 50mm Hyper wheels came out at 8 kg.
Would love to see a comparison with the Trek Madone of course !!
I recently bought the Giant Propel SL0 with SRAM Red for $8500. I was really unsure as I did not consider Giant to be a builder of great bikes. I was looking at a Cervelo S5 and was about to buy it, however at $11500 that was only SRAM Force. The wheels were also better on the Giant. So for a $3000 saving I ended up with a much better spec'd bike. I find the Propel to be a very quick, nimble, and surprisingly comfortable bike that seems to roll faster than others in the peleton (I constantly have to use my brakes in the group as it rolls too well and I keep ending up the back of others). I seem to be very competitive in the crits at my local club in Brisbane. I am surprised by how good the bike is, happily surprised indeed!
That Giant ain’t that light. They are the original manufacturer and I recall copping some flack 30 years ago when I bought the 980c Cadex (which they now call their wheels) and it was a brilliant Carbon bike aluminum lugged.
I think they made the same constructed Look bike at the time.
They have always used their own factory and have built up IP and development staff from the best in the world.
Giant is considered too common by many bike snobs who like stickers over quality due to ignorance.
Nice to see you on a Giant.
To standardise for differences in your power meter so that the results are comparable, you could do a run with the exact same bike up the hill, 1 using your quarq and the other using the pedals (use your quarq bike with the power pedals on for both tests but just switch which one you're reading each time)
The reason I say this is because at the moment you don't know from that whether the Winspace is genuinely now faster since your fixes than last time, or whether your power meters are just recording different outputs so you're inadvertently putting in more or less effort making you go faster
I will test the Winspace up the hill again with just the quarq
would love to hear your comprehensive test and comparo
Hey Cam, great content. Let's see that Emonda!
This is actually my first bike, and I have to say I am in love with it!
Another great video that is making me jealous again. Still haven’t managed to get my hands on a bike for while we’re back so hearing of you getting a fourth is torture! For comparing I guess it has to be an Edmonds, but thinking of picking up a cheap second hand bike hardly used please review a Domane!
That bike looks great man!!!
Get a Pardus! It’s also a Chinese brand, I tested one and I really liked it….! Your opinion about it would be interesting!
Love the Dylan cameo appearance lol
Loving having backwards hat Dylan on there :)
Think the Propel was due to be replaced this year, as it's a little long in the tooth. But they'll sell as many as they can make in today's market and it's small volume compared to the TCR & Revolt anyway, so replacement postponed indefinitely.
100% - Trek Emonda SL6 pro. Test run as stock vs switching wheel set
Would like to see an evaluation on a Trek Emonde SLR 9 Sram Red Etap with Assioma pedals.
And a LOOK 795 Blade RS with Campy EPS4.
Do an endurance bike test, trek domane sl5, giant defy and specialized roubaix.
Great vids 👍
N+1!!! 😁 TREK Madone!! Seems to fall in line with the current test stable.
Oh no you didn't!!! Did you?!? Dylan Johnson popping that surprise cameo appearance! Tres cool, man! Now I REALLY know that I've subscribed to the right channel!
