Because Redick is talking nonsense.
He really has no clue what he is talking about. Him or any NBA today could even make a team back then not less play.
Thats facts the game was different and much harder. It wasn't about entertainment. You had to keep you hand on

don't ask Jj Reddick he's delusional
If Larry played in this era, he'd destroy 3PT records for his position. The game is different now, they shoot more 3s and if Bird shot more 3s, he would definitely be up there. JJ is wack on that narrative. Larry was a cold ass motherfucker.
Spot on bulls eye my man. Bird was fire
Reddick is a klutch sports client. He caters to the young gen and tickles their ears by downing the old guys.
Reddick is a Dan Majerle. Probably not even that good, because Thunder Dan was a better athlete and defender than Reddick ever was.
My point is that someone of that ilk isn't fit to be talking down on someone like Bird. Bird would've hung 50 on Reddick without breaking a sweat.
The worst part about Reddick is that kids buy this whole intellectual act by Reddick. He ain't smarter than any of the older players, who weren't AAU and were raised on fundamental basketball.
Plus he's no different than SAS or Nick Wright. He's just another hot take artist. The only difference is that he stooges even harder for LeBron and the current gen of players.
More trash TV.
Not only compete, he would dominate, with all the spacing and no hand checking I can see jordan going for 40-45 points a night
Fairly easily in my opinion, and perhaps even off the floor shortly after the midway point of the fourth. I want some analytic dude to figure out if Iverson is number one in the all-time on his ass in the paint list. They have ruined the sport in order to appease a more casual fan that prefers to watch offense. A 30 ppg average in today's NBA is like a 21, 22, average even ten or fifteen years ago. It's getting to the point of unwatchable, like the NFL. NCAA is a much better game in both basketball and football now.
@@michaelh7125no, they play this way because it works. Much easier to score when the floor is spread out with 3 point shooters instead of Charles Oakley or Otis Thorpe clogging the lane and spotting up from 10 ft.

Curry Has The 12th Best Career 3pt Shooting % In History, Does That Mean He's Not A Top 5 Shooter Of All Time?
Did this dude really try to compare Larry Legend to Draymond Green???? lol 😂
You see how he got offended and said he didn't practice spot but jabs Larry when players didn't practice 3s back then
I appreciate JJ but he really doesn't grasp the greatness of Bird. None of these young pod hoodlums get it. He would fuck up anyone excluding MJ.
Draymond would of got his ass whooped in the 90s , someone like bird, rodman and on. If draymond pulled his cheap dirty bs on those boys Draymond would be running to the locker room crying
The irony of the entire "we done with the 90's" campaign is that the premium placed on raw athleticism and power of players peaked
in the 1990's - early 2000's. This is because of the rules that were in place at the time. The only guys winning MVPs in the 1990's looked
like and were built like Michael Jordan, Olajuwon, Shaq, and David Robinson. As soon as the NBA started changing the rules to make
the game easier for less athletic players, Steve Nash and other international players started to win MVPs. And now we have the league
that we have today.

JJ is gonna be upset when some kid calling wemby the goat is gonna bring down LBJ saying JJ is a plumber that couldn't guard anyone
“JJ and LeBron played against a bunch of Tweeters and Podcast hosts”
The skill of players today is at it's max. Not much will advance when it comes to the NBA. I doubt some kid will say that because skill level will be the same in the future.
@ozonespec that's what every generation thinks. Kids don't care. They will find their goat and put him on top
No ones going to call this generation plumbers and ice cream truck drivers. This era has Stephan Curry for crying out loud. Kevin Durant. Dirk Newitsky. Kobe Bryant. Kyrie Irving. Some of the most talented and skilled players ever. Tim Duncan, Joel Embiid, Nikola Jokic are probably the most skilled big men in nba history. Not to mention shaq diesel the most dominate big man ever which he didn’t become till the 2000s anyone who actually watches the game knows. that. Talent level has evolved too much to call these guys anything but professionals at their craft.

Honestly the argument is sound. It works with any sport. Compare early MMA with modern MMA, the worst, lowest paid UFC fighter is beating the best fighters of the 90s and 00s
Most, at least some of the top 75 players in the past are the reason present players are so good. They learnt from and built upon past players.
With that said,of course a player like Bird would be great today if he had this version of NBA to be inspired by.
facts. they were all specialists originally. Gracie would have been murdered by anyone that could defend a takedown or strike a little.
This is poor logic and example of a failing educational system.
The difference between modern MMA and the past isn’t remotely the gap you’re insinuating. When is the last time human beings evolved?
Start there. Rules and the growth of the game is the difference.
More fighters mean a great variety of ability at top and bottom.
Put the past fighters down and have them watch todays MMA and they’d be just as good if not better.
Thats not an argument its called evolution.

Seethe, you bronsexual
Current players have such an advantage in how the game is officiated and played, spacing, free flowing nature of the game, etc. Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and other players from past eras had to work to create whatever space they could and if they played in today's NBA would have far less shots contested than they had when they played in the 80s and 90s. All aspects of offense is far easier now and over the last 10 years or so then it was in the 80s and 90s.
I would have loved to see a one on one between MJ and “plumber” reddick
Bird. 3 nba mvps in a row. Killer iq, competitor and clutch. Won 3point contest. Beat showtime, beat badboys, beat jordan. Bird is underrated.
By JJ Redick's logic - these are OBJECTIVELY the 12 best 3-Point shooters of all time: Steve Kerr, Hubert Davis, Luke Kennard, Dražen Petrović, Joe Harris, Jason Kapono, Tim Legler, Seth Curry, Steve Novak, Kyle Korver, and Steve Nash. This list is made up of players who played in the 80s, 90s, and 2000s. Clearly Steph Curry is not on JJ Redick's list as one of the top 5 or 10 3-point shooters of all time. OBJECTIVELY speaking.
MJ would still be GOAT if he played today. If he came up now, AAU, 1 yr college to the Association he would have the modern skill set to dominate. He has John Wick will power.
Dell curry , Larry bird , mark price , John Paxson ,Craig Hodges , and downtown Freddie Brown would have loved todays game of unlimited threes …
JJ Redick says he was not as good a spot up 3 point shooter as he could have been because he did not practice spot up 3 pointers. Then he wants to compare Larry Bird to the best current 3 point shooters who practice their 3 point shooting far more than Larry Bird ever did. And that's a FACT. The "I didn't practice" excuse should work for Larry Bird as much as it does for JJ Redick.
Well that's 5 minutes of my life I'll never get back
The fact that no-one spoke about the differences in rules, fouls etc. Invalidates any opinions or so called facts. This era of basketball is dry as heck and the viewing figures back that up
But they only talked about Jordan for like 20 seconds. What?
I don’t know why this guy is relevant. He was a role player . He doesn’t even know he’s getting trolled by these comedians.
So according to JJ REDDICK, Draymond Green was a better 3 point shooter than Larry Bird? OK...
That’s not at all what he said. Are you acoustic?
He didn't say it outright but he implied it and didn't caveat it. So it was a poor analysis.
So you can say Bird was a 37% career 3 point shooter at a time when the league avg was about 25 to 28% but he wasn't a great 3 point shooter? You just got through saying relative to the competition then what? That doesn't count in terms of 3 point shooting?
The level of stupidity in that room is depressing.
The answer is Hail Naw!
That gliding through the air all slow, He’d fukc around and bite his tongue off 😂.
MJ plays Defense and gets buckets in the clutch. He would be an asset to any team in any era
The people who go after Skip Bayless for being clearly haven't listened to JJ. 😮
To say today’s players are more athletic is 100% true. To say the players are better today is hard to measure. People forget the rules were different as today’s rules are designed to favor the offensive player and traveling and carrying aren’t enforced. Players couldn’t do that back then.
Look at SKate boarding in the 90's compared to today. Ever heard of Tony hawk? He did "The 900" in 1999. There was a 7 year old who did it like last year. Sports evolve and so do the athletes. Point being they should be compared to the players of the time they were in not to modern time.

I think JJ makes generally good points, but safe to say if Bird wanted to be the best 3 point shooter he could have done that. Maybe the facts don't merit it but the game let him take other shots more often. So his greatness is what his gen of rivals and players are balking at. Potential vs fact of a transcendent player who could will the basketball almost anywhere.
Incredibly stupid to say Bird wasn’t one of the best 3pt shooters ever. Clearly his era didn’t prioritize the same approach today’s era has to shooting 3’s. However, in a 3pt shooting contest, Bird showed how good he was at shooting 3’s. Who cares if JJ can tell you what degree a player’s release point is at? How does at all imply that he was a better 3pt shooter than Bird or at all able to say who is or isn’t a good shooter? It just seems like there is a conflation between shooting volume and ability. Any player who isn’t primarily a 3pt shooter is likely to have much less 3pt shots/ game. That doesn’t speak to shooting ability
What would any of that have to do with his percentage? If he was that great to be called the best ever he would have a good shooting percentage. You can't say duck his percentage didn't you see that 3 point contest 😂
@@colereviewsyt if taking 3’s is not part of the game plan, when do you think 3’s will be taken? Likely end of play clock or Hail Mary-type situations. Whereas in a 3pt contest, the whole point is to test someone’s 3pt shooting ability, albeit in a restricted sense, which is fine to make a note of. My point is that if the era/ coaching didn’t favor 3pt shooting, the 3pt shot selection will be so vastly different than what we have today that just relying on percentage is a bad way to measure how good a shooter someone is. Also, Bird’s role on offense wasn’t a shooter role. That also adds to the type of shots he would be taking. JJ is an entertainer and has to generate views via hot takes to keep eyes on and generate money. He is doing what he has to do.

No that doesn't mean that more than likely they were taken at the end, it means they just preferred to try to get a 2 as opposed a 3. There isn't going to be any way they's absolutely perfect but percentages is a lot better than saying I won a 3 point contest. A 3 point contest there's no defense. There's no restriction, you get to have a perfect rhythm. It's the equivalent of a QB pro day..... Has nothing to do with how good a QB they really are.
And JJ is far from just an entertainer. There literally isn't more than 20 people walking that has the experience and expertise of actually playing the game and taking 3 point shots..... And you are talking like he's a random guy in CZcams comments that doesn't know what he's talking about. That's crazy
@@colereviewsyt it’s an imperfect comparison because you are comparing two incredibly different eras so the commonalities is what you gotta put the most on in terms of comparison. That would be the 3pt contest. It would be odd if Tom Brady was missing most throws during practice, but had amazing completion pct in games. Everyone who is good at shooting 3’s should do well in a 3pt contest. It would be odd if you only knew how to make 3’s when guarded but air-balled routinely when practicing alone. JJ NOW is an entertainer. He has to get eyes and ears.
Reddixk doesn’t understand how much the rules have changed the game. scoring is a lot easier when you can carry the ball and hand check. it changes the game from a big man’s game to a guards game.
Actually Bird won 3 consecutive three point shooting contests. Bird was an all around basketball player who attended the contests against specialists. So for him , a 6'9" rebounding forward its much more impressive than say a Craig Hodges. Reddick is remiss in not adding that

I would love to see JJ debate Skip Bayless on this subject 😆
Facts: Players drafted in 90s dominated 2000s, JJ and LeBron 0 ring in 2000s. Why would the players drafted in 90s water down 90s? They dominated you and LeBron in 2000s. You called them water down just because Jordan and the Bulls dominated 90s? But ignore the fact they dominated you and LeBron in 2000s?
So many ppl from the past would absolutely demolish records in today's nba. Jordan, bird, Reggie Miller, ray Allen, Steve Kerr, glen rice, peja, dirk....today's nba rules and officiating is 100% set up for offensive scoring and particularly 3s. No defense whatsoever. That's why stats from the past 10 years are pretty much irrelevant bc they are bloated stats that would never happen without those changes. Some players would still be great like curry, kd, etc but they wouldn't be in the record setting conversations. It's way harder to score when you can't take 3 steps and shoot it or when you have a guy on defense who is allowed to hand check you and play body to body.
You could project Bird as being one of the greatest three point shooters. He shot pretty well even without focusing on it as a major part of his game. Looking strictly at what was... there's no point in that. Bird coming up today would have a threeball.
When JJ Redick is trying to say good things about Larry Bird, I just don't believe him. It seems like he doesn't believe it either. It seemed like he just want to get off the hot seat. Just my opinion.
Don't agree with JJ dismissing that Bird would be a top 5 three point shooter in today's era. The 3 point shot was much less important and less relied upon in his era. He didn't need to practice threes nearly as much as he would have to in today's era. I think with the dependence on the 3 ball today, that Larry would've become an even better shooter and also because the game is less physical today.
Let's put this in perspective:
In the 1980s the average 3point shooting in the NBA was 28%. Larry Birds career average was 37% that's almost 10% greater than league average. So era to era in modern basketball todays 3point average is 37% so it would be equivalent to having a 46% career average 3point shooter in today game was how good he was compared to the rest of the league. You are telling me 10% better isn't that good, Steph Curry is shooting at 5% greater average lol 🤣
Must Asasssshhhh have a fake seizure when me laughs?
It makes me want to give the 'ole "yuccckkk" again by the great Jimmy Norton on O&A when I listen to comedians interrupt a former nba player about basketball. Jesus Christ
Furthermore, though Bird hit less 3 pointers than alot of guys today. The entire league shot less 3 pointers than they do today. I dont think Reddick truly grasps how terrifically diverse Birds skills were
Bird never practiced 3s nearly as much in his era as he would in today's era because they were never relied upon and he was still one of the greatest shooters of all time. If he played in today's era he would be practicing 3s nonstop and would probably shoot 43+% from 3 for his career.
This was a tough watch with all the interrupting
“These browns try to take us down “ lol😂
Why even have a guest on if you don't let them talk lmao
Imagine if LeBron got to play for Dean Smith for 4 years like Jordan. Imagine if LeBron got to play for John Wooden for 4 years like Kareem. He would not have the scoring championship like now but he would have more rings
LET HIM TALKKK GODDAMNIT!!!
Reddick was a role player
With the way they don’t play defense anymore hell yeah he would dominate. At least 30 to 40 per game.
Trying to listen to JJ talk and Andrew has to interrupt nonstop to let us all know how much he doesn’t care or know about basketball. Unbelievable.
jj willingly ignores birds game winners and go ahead shots that make him better than jj overall
Wait, are you comparing the two or think they’re even in the same stratosphere??!! Redick was a role player who’s teams went nowhere
Rather be a plumber or firefighter than soft as hell like today's players
Greatness is always relative to competition. Sure Tracy McGrady would be better than most players but thats not how it works.
In the olympics the 100m sprinters today are better than everybody in history but they arent greater.
What made MJ the G.O.A.T is not just his physical capability, but his mentality and his spirit. It was the conquering mentality and the unbreakable spirit that made him to be the best at the game in the 90's with the resources and technology available in the 90's. With the same dominating mentality and spirit if MJ played today, he would devote himself to be the best using today's resources, technology, and techniques. Bottom line is that the person with the strong dominant mentality and unbreakable spirit will always devote to bring out the best physical game no matter the era.
The guest to host ratio is off. 4:1 is too much, JJ has to fight to get a word in when it should be the other way around.
4:10 Larry Bird won the three point contest three times. I think it was in three consecutive years.
4/20/24, 7:13 p.m.
Maybe he'll be a better coach than a player😂
Everything evolves...basketball...life...science...and on and on
I'm 100% with JJ on this one. Acknowledge players for their dominance in their respective eras. To put players on a pedestal from 40 years ago and say they would dominate todays game is absurd. I give you this analogy... Michael Phelps, most decorated Olympian of all time. Set 39 swimming records during his careeer. Today he holds exactly ZERO individual world records! If you put him in the water today at his prime, he would not win nearly as often. It's just the reality of sports and human evolution.

Mike would be banned for gambling/DUI in this era
This is when JJ loses it , he tries to be too honest and makes the game about numbers and not about actual players
And yet JJ, good as he was on those claimed categories remained unknown for most. And yes, let him speak then roast after if needs be.
Imagine 1960 Wilt coming down 1 on 1 vs JJ Riddick 😂😂🤡🤡🤡🤡
Steph Curry has a 40.2% 3 point percentage, Larry had 40.6% 3 point percentage. Larry took significantly less 3's but that's because the 3 point line was new right as he entered the league as a rookie! Aside from this, 3's were heavily guarded up close if you were a 3 point sharpshooter - there was no space since hand checking and no 3 second defensive rules were present. Stating that Bird was not top 10 3 point shooter is insane. He's crush it if he was given the green light in an era where perimeter players drive and kick for the open 3. Steph's better though - don't get me wrong. Still, Larry was clearly the better player. Oh, and in terms of shooting, including 2's and especially contested 2's? Larry slaughters Steph. In terms of shooting midrange, Jordan dominates that conversation anyway. So when you discuss best shooter, you have to include 2's and 3's.
Larry's career 3pt percentage was 37.6 not 40.6 and it does make sense he's a better mid range shooter than steph, he was 6'9 with longer reach allowing him to shoot over shorter players on contested shots. Scale steph up to 6'9" I'd take him in the mid range all day. Also in the 80's people didn't guard 3's up close whatsoever because they were seen as more of a risky shot then and there weren't as many competent shooters. Larry bird was an awesome player and could be great any era but idk if I'd put him at best shooter regardless of era, a lot of that is based on hypotheticals
@@natedowd9699 Ah, my fault. I misread the stats and read his last year in the league as his "career" since career is listed at the bottom. On google (instead of basketball reference), the last year is listed on bottom.

@@ShaShaSha534 Taking the last year is still actually meaningful. It shows he could have had a great % if he grew up with the 3 pt line. It just comes down to how much you practice it. Bird was almost KD height, he has a huge advantage over Steph with the release point.
@@sup9542 Exactly! Imagine coming into the league as they literally creat the 3 pointer and you're already crushing it. Steph grew up with the 3 point line. Bird is one of the greatest shooters ever. He had a stretch of 4 years where he was .920-950 from the free throw line, which is insane.
