I can agree 101% about how physical albums make you feel connected. I’m not super picky about how the sound quality is, as long as it’s not dogshit. Flipping the disk, and the needle dropping, and the 12x12 artwork just make the music more of an experience like attending a concert while I clean my room or just do paperwork. Btw, thanks for Scream Bloody Gore!

I agreed with your every word in that video. Owning a physical copy of an album is much more meaningful than just playing it on Spotify. And I was the guy who bought the Rust in Peace album off you. I've been playing it none stop for the last few months and I think my neighbours want a bit of change. I prefer to own my music physically, I own about 100 records and 200 cd's. I used to prefer vinyl, but like you said it is a pain to move. I onyl get my favorite albums on vinyl and sometimes a blind buy if it's like a couple of euros. I bought Rainbow's long live rock 'n roll before I even heard it for 1,50€. It was my first record so it won't leave my collection. I might get a second copy since mine isn't in the best condition. Collecting music is always a lot of fun, finding deals like an OG dark side of the moon (german press) for 4€ or a copy of hotel calafornia by the eagles for 3€ and it came with the poster.
But like you I'd rather spend my money towards experienced. I saw Ministry, overkill, ghost, municipal waste (I met the band and I brought Ryan to the backstage room because I was helping to organize the concert) and a lot of other amazing bands live.

Iam more a collector cause when i break down what i have to pay most of the time to see a band urgh. Shure i live in the most populated area in Germany but when i want to see a band i have to pay entrance maybe 20-40€ sometimes less sometimes more then i need to get there that cost me with train to get there and back home 20-60€ (maybe more) cause my town is kinda dead when it comes to metal gigs) and then i maybe want some beers on the concert again 10-30€ and all that with out even buying merch. Thats all money i cant spend to get stuff from the band that why i like to order the stuff online and then directly for a bigger amount of money. The only concert i was this year was Rammstein in Berlin but that was a 4 day trip with a long time friend that i know since Elementary School and it was a Birthday Gift (we know us now for 20 years so not a big deal for us)

    I prefer vinyl because:
    -the box art is bigger
-takes longer to play a vinyl and you need to change sides so you take your time to listen to the music
-sometimes extra content is included like sheet of paper with band info and lyrics
-vinyl comes in different colors and sometimes has pictures on the actual vinyl
Small things that add up unlike CDs that has way to small booklets/cover art for my taste, CDs are not in different colors...
Used to get a shirt/concert that I never used so started buying a vinyl/concert instead

This was a really thoughtful, interesting video. The comments are entertaining too. I completely understand the frustration that comes with vinyl. I only ever had about fifteen records as a kid before cassettes and, eventually, CDs, took over. I tossed my records in the mid-80s after a family tragedy and subsequent move, thinking they’d never come back in style. Well, here we are thirty plus years later and low and behold, I got sucked into collecting records again about a year and a half ago. I totally love it and am completely addicted. I do take the time to listen to them, but it’s really an effort to make time. The biggest problem I see is finding the space for them. I have a small home and the records are just scattered everywhere. The prices are ridiculous too. I also find myself still buying copies of albums on CD or even MP3, in order to enjoy the portability. The price of CDs right now compared to vinyl is miles apart and I honestly don’t hear that much of a difference in sound quality. Good for you, Tony, for making the best decision for yourself. I can see a day in the future where I may have to make a similar decision. At the rate I’m buying vinyl, I will run out of space in no time. For now, really having a great time enjoying vinyl again. The hobby is at an insanely crazy level. It will slow down. More people will eventually realize some of the issues a few of us are already experiencing. Not sure how soon the vinyl revival will slow, but it’s inevitable. LPs are too expensive and cumbersome for the majority of the public to want to stick with the hobby.

This comment is old but : I find it difficult to differentiate genres especially with more grind and the like in my collection . To each his/her own, and i do get what you're saying, my man... however, i have a decent vinyl collection, still buy stuff, though CDs are also ok by me. actually, since i'm oooooold, i started buying vinyl in 1980-81, when i put away my toys (except for my Kiss dolls ha) and started down the rocknroll path. then, in 1989, i thought vinyl was really over and sold at least 500 masterpieces. about five or six years later i thought that was insane so i tried to get a lot of stuff back somehow. and i did, to a certain extent. BUT thanks to that holy grail-like search, i ended up buying great albums that i never had before, i.e. Atomic Rooster, Quatermass, Hard Stuff, Captain Beyond, Guru Guru, Cactus, Bang, the Edgar Broughton Band and lots of heavy 70s obscure stuff... i still miss my Frehley's Comet albums, or my Celtic Frost, Voivod, Kreator, Mercyful Fate, Death Angel, Deathrow, Destruction, COC, Nuclear Assault, Battleaxe, Raven e.p. collection. Oh, i do regret selling those albums, believe me... cds sound fine, but there's something to be said about the ambience that a vinyl copy helps create, and that has a lot to do with the bass, not only with a certain state of mind. i try to listen to my records as often as i can, paying total attention and just diving into the sound- nothing comes close, not even sex haha... well, i don't know about that, but anyway! btw, nice vinyl collection- His Hero is Gone rules, BUT hey, c'mon tha Sabbath 13 comeback album is so-so, no Bill Ward bashing no 'trve' Sabbath there, rick rubin be damned! thanks for reading!

I just don't have any more storage space in my modest abode for more vinyl, c.d.'s or books. If I buy anything new or second hand, it means getting rid in equal amounts of what I have but has served to bolster quality. Surpluses I give away to friends or save up to go to charity shops. Now it's downloads on my p.c. and transferring on to memory sticks once I hit full discographies. The memory sticks are building up too.

I have recently started selling a lot of my CDS as I have been collecting for 30 years and some never get played and just gather dust so they may as well get sold to people who will play them. I still like those albums but I just don't play them anymore.

If I can get the CD for much cheaper, if the record has songs that are vinyl-only, if the record has ever been pressed on CD (the Portion Control and Lead Into Gold albums in this video have not), and whether or not the sound is an astronomical jump between formats.

I don’t like tapes. They wear and they’re noisy.
Vinyl when pressed from master tapes sound full, have more bass, and sound more natural in general. Especially since its one analogue format to another. With digitally recorded albums, you may notice a difference in the amount of dynamic range.

The only time I sell is if I desperately need money or I will do trades. Otherwise there are still thousands I need. My cutoff point in getting everything I want is probably at the six or seven thousand limit. Of course I've been buying, selling, trading for over 25 years.
