I want to just remember the legend that is Cathy Rutherford 0:06 who unfortunately passed away in July of this year. Her Niece announced her passing on X (Twitter) along with the iconic thatcher clip. A Scottish icon indeed, RIP 🕊️
I knew a man once who freely admitted that he had never made a cup of tea (or anything else) for himself in his life. He was around 60 years old then. Never made any food either, not even a sandwich. "That's Missus' job".
Brad/Lucy, I'm a Glaswegian and my dad was a coal miner all his life. We couldn't even mention Thatcher's name in this house. Caused untold damage to Scotland. You'd be hard pressed to find many Scottish folk who'd have a kind word to say about her. Great clip!!

In the UK we have the Royal British Legion which is our version of your Royal Canadian Legion. Both perform similar charitable functions as well as both providing many social clubs around either country, like the ones you're referring to. As well as these clubs we also have Working Men's Clubs which are very similar in atmosphere. Families are often seen in the games and functions rooms of such places, which also often have separate 'Gentlemen's Bars'. Though I haven't been for a while.

Lucy and I grew up in Northern Ontario, Canada (both from small farming communities). Lucy is bi-lingual (french). She has Scottish (Munroe) heritage with an Indigenous Grandmother. I have a Welsh (Jenkins) heritage with an indigenous great-grandmother. We plan to come to the U.K. next year hopefully. It would be our first time.

We do have British Legions, but very sparse. I think there's only one in Glasgow, and one in each neighbouring town.
