Indian cricket was reborn in Kolkata in 2001. India had a "Wall", Aussies found their eternal nemesis in Laxman and Ganguly marched on to build a legacy as a captain like no other.

That test match was one of the greatest of all time. India through Laxman & Dravid did find a miracle, Waugh’s Australia was at the peak of there powers 16 Test victories in a row. They were on their way to an easy series victory in India. One has to remember how many of the greatest test matches that have involved Australia. It is Australia who continues to fight in these matches that brings about some of the greatest results. They either fight so hard they create multiple opportunities to win or they force their opponents to come up with greatness to beat them.

This was probably the best comeback ever in test cricket. There was no way india were getting out of this test match without losing halfway through, but Dravid and Laxman batted all day and turned it around. This match is the reason Australia never enforce the follow on to this day.
I was 13 years old at the time and was watching and waiting for that wicket but it never came....

*I don't have any memory of that match didn't know much about Cricket then but remember Wankhede low scoring match where India smashed Aus despite scoring low. However Kolkata and Laxman thing is a big anchor of modern India Test Cricket rise. The other thing we know Laxman and Rohit Sharma are the guys who smashed Australia anyday anytime in Cricket. Dravid was the biggest brand of test Cricket*

I watched this game live from Sydney, Australia. I used to stay up late. I thought it was over when they were asked to follow on. When Sachin got out, I thought it was over. I was actually going for the indians coz I used to go for the non white teams as the Aussies used to sledge to win and I didn't like it. Then, Dravid and Laxman came on. When they both got centuries, I didn't think they would keep going. It was fascinating to watch. Dravid was notorious of being so slow at scoring i.e. nicknamed the Wall. A player similar to Pujara. And yet, he was playing shots all over the park. You guys should watch the highlights of that match. It was fucking epic. I really appreciate the fact you guys understand what this Test cricket is about.

You know, during 2011 World Cup, Yuvraj Singh was suffering from Cancer. And there were matches when Yuvraj was vomiting blood on the field while batting, Umpire asked him to leave and he refused. He won India the Semi Final against Australia and made India to the Finals. And He became the Man Of The Tournament while suffering Cancer.

You guys have got to watch the highlights of this match. On day 4, they both played and got 360+ runs, and did not lose a single wicket.
One aussie player had brought out a pack of cigars to smoke for when they bowl India out on Day 4 and win the series, Adam Gilchrist to this day, says that was a bad omen and eventually contributed to them losing the series from leading 1-0.

Its a milestone in Indian Cricket and first turning point for Team India of this century towards becoming the Cricket Superpower that Indian team is today. Before this match and subsequent other turning points ... Indian team was always in bottom half of ranking table .. Indian bowling was considered one of weakest .. fielding was pathetic .. Batting heavily dependant on Sachin Tendulkar .. and Team India was marred by big match-fixing scandals & corruption.
