1:15 lots of ethical reasons against this. Taking humans out of the equation in warfare is dangerous, and it’s a little akin to the (now outlawed) landmines that were previously used in warfare.
It is more about civilian considerations and rebuilding. Mines, and cluster munitions leave unexploded ordinance all over the place and causes significant costs to the local population as a result. The US and Europe still find these suckers even though the War for Succession ended in 1868, and WWII ended in 1944. Any occupying military force that wishes to conqueror an area will do well to avoid these things, but if you are desperate, then using them will result in a no-man's-land that will slow down the opposing forces.

"The TF2 Community was weird this week..." - isn't that the defining trait of TF2 community? For crying out loud i lost count of how many times someone oneshoot me with conscientious objector displaying furry porn or something similar on the wtf scale.
The TF2 sentry is obviously far less than practical in any way. However, the largest concerns are different. Autonomous target systems cannot decide between friend or foe and even the chipped exception approach doesn't work for civilians. Also they might be forgoten after battle if the setup team died, thus leaving a sentry, inside someone's house or on the street. Again Civis. Targeting AI is a morale question, as what if it shoots people who don't pose a threat. All in all, Fully autonomous sentries are a war crime. -Signed by your friendly german neighbourhood metal worker who had to find that out the hard way. (It's a world wide law)
Additionally, any form of lethal automated trap is illegal and a war crime. Same goes for landmines which have also become illegal due to their long-lasting threat they pose after the war.

the problem with sentry guns irl is that they will have only a certain range since an infrared, or a regular camera can only see so far (making them easy pickings for rpg's) they need maintainence (like all machinery and guns) take a long long time to set up they can't distinguish between friend and foe and they're stationary so they need long range support, like artillery something to constantly fix them up a while to set up something to distinguish friendly from enemy soldiers and they still can't move and at that point it's not really worth making them anymore cuz regular infantry can do all that, and they can also push back all for less time, money and manpower than it would take to place a sentry

1:27 Ukrainian military made the real sentry gun with the Steam Deck(not a joke). Well... We have real PVP in Ukraine, spies, snipers, sentry gun and etc.
The basic gist on automatic weapons in warfare is civilian costs, and occupation costs. Automatic weapons have existed as traps since ancient times, but the major issue with traps of all kinds are removal and maintenance. Both actions reveals the location of the trap to the enemy, and causes them to lose their major functionality. However, these things require maintenance in order to maintain lethality. The modern variants are landmines and cluster munitions. Which cause issues even a hundred years after their deployment, thus must nations agree to stop using them. They simply cost too much to deploy and clean up. (Don't let that stop the Ukrainians from doing so, as that will simply destroy their country faster than the Russians could.) As for more complex traps, the Marines did several tests with crude sentry devices. These devices check to human shape objects then check to see if it recognizes the display as an enemy. So the big brain Marines testing the devices successfully stealth passed these things using classic maneuvers such as, somersaults, rolling along the ground, holding branches out in front, hiding under a cardboard box, walking backwards, and many other things. We are about a hundred years out from an AI that can correctly identify you if you wear a fake mustache so it cannot find your picture in the database.

The 6 going on 7 years of no major updates is starting to set in on the community, Lobotomy Fortress 2
the problem with sentry guns irl is that
they will have only a certain range since an infrared, or a regular camera can only see so far (making them easy pickings for rpg's)
they need maintainence (like all machinery and guns)
take a long long time to set up
they can't distinguish between friend and foe
and they're stationary
so they need
long range support, like artillery
something to constantly fix them up
a while to set up
something to distinguish friendly from enemy soldiers
and they still can't move
and at that point it's not really worth making them anymore cuz regular infantry can do all that, and they can also push back
all for less time, money and manpower than it would take to place a sentry
