When I was a kid I listened to country. Have you heard some of the songs in country? Reba sings about becoming a prostitute and Garth Brooks sang about a guy cheating on his wife and her killing him...like come on now no one remembers when they were kids because clearly we didn't spend a ton of time taking apart lyrics there. In this case the dance isn't sexual and she's just picking up on the beat.

Well, some people simply believe a child shouldn't be even LISTENING to this song MUCH LESS dancing to it. These songs were not written for children. The dance steps for them were NOT made with children in mind, they were designed to sexualize. Hell the only reason her movements were non-sexual was they were designed to eccentuate features she doesn't even have yet.

The only reason the young girl is getting so much negativity is because the song is by Nicki Minaj, nobody really gives a fuck about the idea within the song, because male artists have been making songs with the exact same message, and I can guarantee that if Taylor did choreo to one of the many male artists that sing about sex etc. the backlash wouldn't be as huge. Such a double standard as well, because if it was a young boy, same age, doing the exact same choreography there would definitely be minimal negative comments about the song and the young boy dancing.

I think this is a really interesting perspective. People are conditioned to see women's bodies, specifically black women's bodies, as inherently sexual. If she did this choreography to a different song, would anyone be opposed to her dance moves?
I was about to come to this video holding pitchforks and torches until I saw her moves. Usually when you seen a "tween" dancing to these types of songs they have dance moves to compare. I was surprised to see nearly all her moves weren't as provocative as you would see from an adult. Not to say they're not allowed to dance a certain way before they hit a certain age, but I guess some movies just don't look appropriate for some ages (by societies standards). But this girl, and guy killed it! What an amazing routine! She'll be incredible when she's older! I'd like to see more of the guy too. Not a dancer myself but I love the art!

Can't watch the video on mobile. But I am reading the comments. While I am not a fan of Nicki Minaj, you people are acting as if its so shocking she's dancing to this song, let alone listening to it. Going so far as to calling her parents bad parents . First of all, that is NOT your place. Second of all, it is NOT even remotely fair. Kids are going to listen to what they want to listen to, whether you tell them no or not. This song is on the radio, so if you need to throw blame anywhere, blame radio stations and the artists themselves, but there's no much you can do. I remember hearing my first very explicit song on the radio, Closer by Nine Inch Nails, which is really just about hating yourself so much you only find solace through sex. The song did not make me hate myself, didn't make me a sex addict, and there was nothing my parents could have done to prevent me from hearing it, seeing as I heard it at a friends house.

Exactly, this is TMI but age 11 is when I first started puberty, and was obviously educated about sex. Even when I was younger than that I had an inkling of knowledge of what sex was, not all of it but the gist of what it was... It's comments like this that make me regret being an "american". We put so many limits and restrictions and bash an 11 year old because she's dancing to a explicit song. Instead, what I see is a girl who is 10 years younger than me dancing better than a bunch of people I actually know and she can keep up with the likes of me who's been dancing since he could walk and because those restrictions aren't on this little girl she will be able to flourish and show off her talent instead of hiding it like a bunch of young kids are.

All I can see is a girl that love what she does. This is exceptional, she clearly has talent, and I guarantee that she is having fun. I believe that dancing is what she wants, and putting her into school and later university, having a job in a office might not be the ideal for her. I commend Laurence for taking the time to work with the young people. Growing up there were inappropriate songs on the market as well, but as kids it was all about the dance moves and having fun.

This song is inappropriate for adults who actually respect good music. Regardless I listened to sexual songs as a kid and it didn't ruin me most of the time kids aren't taking apart lyrics that's adults who do that who forgot what it's like when they were that age.

There is a line. this is WAY over it. #1 Baby Got Back and Anaconda are both inappropriate songs for an 11 year old to dance to. #2 booty popping is okay in moderation, grinding hips and making faces while doing it is not okay. If this were to go to competition, it would get hit with a few deductions. inappropriate music, inappropriate choreography. I don't care how great of a dancer she is... a college dance team can go to town on this song.. it's all about keeping it age appropriate. Laurence is an irresponsible adult in this situation.
She wasn't really dancing sexually. This seemed more like a talent showcase. I think you're reading too much into it based on what you see in it personally. Maybe you should reevaluate your own views on sexuality if this is too much for you, being almost totally devoid of it in this video.
I've been a dance coach/ choreographer for 12 years. I'm also a certified competition judge. We are trained to watch out for situations like this. This routine would be pulled before it made it to the floor. Choreography is borderline, and music is a big no-no. You would be shocked at how many teams dance to songs about drugs, sex, and alcohol.
CJ Slate .....Dude people have been dancing to songs about drugs and sex way before this, so why do you have to berate an 11yr old girl about what she dances to. I don't care if you are a "dance coach/choreographer and certified competition judge", when a person is a dancer they dance to anything that they feel like they can dance to. In this choreography, there is no excessive twerking or butt shaking, and as Baxter Sapp said, it looks more like a talent showcase, so calm down about inappropriate song choice. Laurence being a irresponsible adult is total bs, when you have parents who letting their 8 year old kids play CoD and BF and along them to cuss the crap out of everyone online.

Don't get me wrong she has talent. I also have a problem with the type of music she's dancing to. She's not related to me nor do I know who she is. With that said I like the comments about " oh people have been listening to strong lyrics like this before " maybe that's the reason we should evaluate the situation better. Hope she has parents that can guide her when a boy looks at her as an object not a person.
I know there will morals shouted out because of the songs public indecency. Everyone get's it, the song has a provocative message, but the dance routine these two had completely reversed it. Artistically, it's sleek, beautiful and contemporary, and I myself would wish I can be on a level close to theirs (especially this 11 year olds). You just watched art, and OP don't let it get to you. The internet thrives on trolls and haters, cause it helps sustain their pride on finding cynicism and sarcasm upon throwing bags of attention on others. who gives a fuck if shes dancing to this song, the fact is she has that little thing that dancers lack. I hate to say the word but its swag, she adds her only little feel into her dancing. Whatever you say doesnt matter, because she will be even better whens shes older.

I thought this was going to be inappropriate too, coming into this video and I was prepared to shake my head, but honestly I don't see what some people are upset by. These dance moves aren't inappropriate, she isn't twerking, wearing provocative clothing or doing anything that's sexual. And she's really good and having fun. Good for her. I love seeing stuff like this! To see adults like you taking an interest in the lives of kids is an amazing thing! It really helps to keep them out of trouble and be able to learn how to work for something and when they get it, see the smiles on their faces and the feeling of pride that they did it! Wonderful job sir!

It was an adults class that she joined in on, he taught it as a workshop. As somebody who has done Laurence's workshops, it's normally mostly adults but sometimes kids join in. She just happened to be at that workshop and dancers when they teach choreography workshops always film with the dancers who pick up the choreography the best. Laurence was obviously impressed with how well she picked it up and wanted to give her the props she deserves. So yes, he's calling you haters because people tend to run their mouth before they even do their research.
I have 11 years of dance under my belt and dancing in a studio such as this one seen here. Trust me an 11 year old dancer can handle a lot and their minds aren't geared towards sex like all you adults. Plus she's in an adult level class to excel, the choreographer isn't going to make every decision based off an 11 year old in his class.

Why do people care so much about the song? I'm pretty sure all of you have listened to a popular song when you were a kid, only to grow up and realize how overtly sexual it actually was. She's not analyzing lyrics here, she's dancing to a beat and a melody. Get over it.
