So Jerome. I spoke with my dad who is a navy vet. Two things. 1) he loved the question on how many classic pirate ships would it take to take out a destroyer. 2) he came to the conclusion that it would take over 10k+ pirate ships to take out a Destroyer that was outfitted for Destert Storm. His reasoning was simply showing me a video of the military trying to take out decommissioned destroyers.
An I have to admit; if the stakes are just the weapons on bored (no helicopters) and no infinite ammo; or would take roughly 10k+ pirate ships, and they'd have to be up close and personal with the destroyer. Cause without the ability to shoot the weak points of the destroyer which is under the water then it would just be time and endurance. Cause even the destroyer could ram and crash into the pirate ships with no issue or risk of damage

@Rudolph Jones maneuverability wouldn't matter much. Cause at the range the P.S. would need to be they wouldn't be able to get away fast enough for the destroyer not to ram it

The AOE3 Challenge:
Rules: To start you use a cash drop to get a village to be your town center like in Age and upgrade it once any path but that is the path you choose for that one, and you all can place 4 units total not 4 each and only upgrade them one tier. To place more units you must build more houses (villages) each supporting 4 population (4 units). To upgrade units past the first tier, you need to age up (upgrade your village that is the town center). To get tier 2 upgrades, upgrade the village to the Colonial Age (tier 2 upgrade), and keep going like age up until tier 5 (Imperial Age). The one town center counts for the 4 of you. The goal is to try to last as long as possible.
Units: (all 1 population) (you can use multiple of them as long as you have the population room to support it)

Longbow: Quincy
Crossbow: Crossbow route of dart monkey
Cannon: Cannon
Howitzer: Mortar

Buildings:
Town Center: The free village you get and age up to get more upgrades. Supports 4 population, you only have one of them.
House: Villages. Supports 4 population. Can build as many as you need.
Mill: Top route of banana farm. Can upgrade to tier 3 whenever but need Industrial age for tier 4 and imperial for tier 5.
Bank: Middle route of banana farm. Can upgrade to tier 3 whenever but need Industrial age for tier 4 and imperial for tier 5.

It seems to complicated for a Bloons game, and I think that’s the only reason they won’t do it.

At one point the USA tested their most powerful ship with a bombardment of modern warships used by china and it lasted four weeks. So technically it would be so high of an amount that the pirates would spend so long trying to defeat the ship that the ships crew would run out of food quicker than the pirates could take down the destroyer. And if your considering that most pirates didn't have more than one if any cannons and the navy ships having highly trained soldiers and the pirates only having a crew of around 5-10 it could be completely impossible and the pirates to kill the destroyer and it would be some outside issue like starvation.

The battleship would win anyway so
An Arleigh Burke-Class Destoryer carries 600 rounds of ammunition for its 127mm Mk 45 lightweight cannon and it also has 90 missiles on board. And with about 3/4 inches of angled armor, the pirates wouldn’t be able to pen it. It would get close to winning by killing them with its guns and missiles. And it’s not even a battleship....

I like how he thinks there are guns that are sufficient in the year 1600. Like we’re talking guns that are flintlocked...and loading a rifle??? That’s a big no no.
And then he’s like no no not the largest of ships, an airship carrier. Like, wouldn’t an airship carrier be bigger than a aircraft carrier which is already king??
I love how they can have arguments of random stuff and yet still be friends. But I guess if one of them left it wouldn’t be the same.
Technically, Jerome, if you use the most modern naval technology then we'd have a nuclear powered destroyer firing lasers at the pirates. The amount of pirate ships one could destroy would then be a question of how long it takes for the nuclear fuel to run out.
Although even if we don't cheat with lasers, a destroyer would still last for a very long time because even after its shells, torpedoes, and missiles run out, it still has multiple anti-air guns and onboard crew guns, most of which can at the very least punch through wood.

The battle ship if nuclear powered can’t run out of fuel also there are only two ships in the entire us navy that have lasers and they are older ships.

Bolby Ballinger correct but in the middle of the Atlantic helicopters would not be able to reach the mainland without running out of fuel. Plus what pirate ships are we talking about here the queen Ann revenge style ship or the cheapest ships available. If the pirates keep throwing their ships against the battleship it would fall. Ww1 is an example of this sending troops to take trenches and after waves in f soldiers trenches finally fell. Moral would be a big factor however moral would be slightly in the pirates favor. Seeing hundreds if not thousands of pirate ships converge on you location you would be scared. Also their is no real defenses then armor from the cannon balls. Yes you have guns but the guns could not take out all the pirate ships before volleys of fire came down on the destroyer. The pirate ships would also never run out the fuel and fighting the pirates days free day the destroyer would run out of fuel and ammo not including small arms fire. Plus communications could easily be destroyed by the pirates so calling for back up would be impossible even in jerome’s scenario. The queen Ann’s revenge had as many men on it as a modern day destroyer would.
Here's a fun one: the "Nature's blockade" challenge.
Captain Blast'em uses middle route wizard, but only up to tier 3, until he gets 30 on the map, at which point tier 4 and 5 are allowed.
Jerome uses middle route ice monkeys, but only up to tier 3, until he gets 30 on the map, at which point tier 4 and 5 are allowed.
LIBBYYYYYYY! uses middle route Druid, but only up to tier 3, until he gets 30 on the map, at which point tier 4 and 5 are allowed.
And finally Droppsy uses Obyn Greenfoot, and top route banana farms, but without the tier restrictions.
Monkey villages are allowed, but any towers I DIDN'T mention are banned.
I feel like these guys are underestimating the amount of armaments that a modern warship carries. Also, fuel- old-timey sailing ships wouldn't run out of fuel ever. It'd honestly be more on the magnitude of tens of thousands, I think.

Nuclear powered destroyers dont really run out either and they dont rely on wind

Jerome to clarify today's despute in the American civil war there was 2 ironclad ships even with cannonballs it took hours for there to be enough damage to tear the armor so with today's armor alone it would take days for the cannonballs to rip the armor and weeks to sink it

Another advantage a “Pirate ship” has over a “destroyer” is that a destroyer runs on fuel and a pirate ship uses air so they can wear out the engines.

With the battleship question, they wouldn’t be able to do it, after they ran out of ammo, which they have insane amounts of, the cannons won’t even be able to puncture the destroyers armor. Those things can take missle strikes and keep going.

They forgot that battle ships have 2,000 round miniguns that have a bullet big enough to absolutely tear threw the ships like paper and a hot knife.
And some have flyable vehicles like jets

My, probably inconsequential, thoughts on the destroyer vs pirate ship argument are that it would take somewhere in the range of 1000-1100 pirate ships to achieve a zero ammunition situation against a Zumwalt class destroyer. Probably somewhere in the realm of 700-750 for an Arleigh Burke. The counts for the ammunition situations are assuming the 127mm rifle on the Burkes, the 155mm rifle on the Zumwalts, and the missiles on both are able to achieve 1 shot kills on the pirate ships, as well as including some kills with the CIWS weapons both ships have. Regardless of ammunition, no amount of pirate ships could destroy either of those ships since they couldn't get close enough to actually engage the destroyers.

Just look at the introduction of the ironclad, the size of a us navy ship in the 1800s took out an entire fleet of normal military ships (much better than pirate ships), and modern battleships are at least 10 times the size of the first ironclad, and thats not mentioning over 150 years if militarization

Actually helicopters aren’t part of a battleship. They are included in the aircraft carrier defense group, which granted includes battleships. It still is not linked directly to the battleship.

What I find funny about the whole Pirates V Destroyer discussion is that in the (American) Civil war, two "ironclad" ships fought each other but couldn't put a dent into their respective opponent... So the whole battle was just a draw- and, I mean, that was the early 1860, and nowadays with what ships have for armor, I don't think a cannonball is going to do squat against a modern destroyer.

Darts only challenge: Only dart projectiles allowed. If it shoots anything else, not allowed (example:plane can’t get fighter plane, specter, or even pineapple). Half way towers (ie knockback robo monkey) are ok. No banana farms or villages for extra challenge.
Fun fact the 1st metal ship every made the cannons couldn't take it down because they wernt strong enough

Do a challenge where everyone’s favorite and least favorite towers (attack towers) in a randomized wheel. You have to get all three tier fives of each tower. 2 farms per person
Edit: if no cano detecting towers drawn, you can use a max of 3 villages 2-2-0 and you only get to use the three tier five towers and banana farms
A destroyer with no guns could beat thousands of pirate ships. The destroyers range an speed would make it able to run Away and starve all the Pirates
Also with weapons it would take very few shots to take out each ship. They would just have to use small guns like ciws (close in weapons systems) to take out ships

Each person spins the wheel for a HERO and a TOWER. That’s basically it. Banana farms are allowed, but only 2 per person. Get to wave 125. If needed you can use a monkey village.
Teamwork challenge:
Dart monkey: plasma monkey fan club
Alchemist: Total transformation
Monkey Sub: Sub Commander
Banana farms: producing money for the others
Here is a challenge, the story challenge. you get three towers going a different route for each of you and one has to be in the beginning of the track, middle of the track, and the end of the track.
For towers that i would like to be seen are:

Spike Factory
Ice Monkey
Wizard Monkey
Idea: Random Hero challenge.
Basically this challenge except you can only use that ONE tower
The BTD6 group: discusses destroyer vs old pirate ships
The Infographics Show: "What would happen if a modern day battleship time travelled to the year 1700?"
Try to use the supermonkey like this:
One friend goes the top path,
an other friend goes the middle path,
you go the bottom path,
an other friend goes on the farms,

and go to round 200.
Or everyone gets all of the Supermonkey ways ones and a hero (no bananafarms).

I have the moab assassination bomb tower to have 2 advantages over the tier 5 mid route sub
1, can be placed on more maps
2, can be upgraded to moab eliminater for 2x damage and a sixth of the cooldown
