- mountain bike flow trails many of us love em. I can sometimes get obsessed with finding one that catches my eye. Years ago we sought out a trail in Iowa with a unique name, Flowy McFlowface. We never found the trail but now we're heading back more determined to ride it than ever.

Lol. It was pretty bad. I don't think that trail gets much traffic.
It dawned on me that the reason why there are so many well defined, machine built trails out there is effectively because enough people had to navigate social trails + suffer on what are now obsolete bikes, before the sport could evolve. When you think about, the pioneers of this sport - and in particular the ones who decided to move on from smooth fire roads, to rocky wilderness passages - had a unique goal albeit without a real plan. It sort of just went from the question of "Can I do this on a bike?", to "How can one build a bike to be more suitable for this type of riding?", to "How can we manipulate a trail to create the most gratifying riding experience possible?" The evolution of MTB and MTB trails is really quite interesting!
That's a great observation. As bikes became way more capable, it also attracted a larger group of people. Luckily, we have the best of all worlds right now.

I am one of the guys that maintains Beverly park. Thanks for riding the trails. The Cedar Rapids trails are overgrown because of the 10 August 2020 Derecho that took out 60-70% of our tree canopy. That lets the sunlight reach the forest floor and the sticker bushes and vines Blossomed. We used to mow once a month and that was enough. Now, we should mount dual hedge trimmers on the front of a bike once a week to keep the “whippers” at bay. We are also in the planning stages of a park rework, so check back in a few years and give us another ride.
I just looked up what a derecho was. 😲 I thought it was somebody's name. I had no clue. Thank you for all your hard work. I know it's hard to keep trails trails pristine. We enjoyed the trails regardless. We'll definitely be back!
