- Siem Reap, Cambodia is an absolutely incredible place. We enjoyed it so much that we call it one of our favourite ever destinations.
Super friendly locals, incredible food, beautiful nature, amazing history and so much more.
Siem Reap offers you a chilled experience if you choose and a popping night life in it's famous Pub Street where you can enjoy a beer for around £0.50p or $0.75!
Not to forget the world famous temples of the Angkor area which will definitely leave you speechless. While Angkor Wat is the most famous of the temples we realised there were so many others that were even more impressive (to us anyway!).
After you're done exploring the many, many, MANY temples, you can eat at the wide variety of restaurants and sample the delicious Khmer food.
This is a very unique city which we're sure you will enjoy just as we did.

Traveled from July - Sep throughout Asia and SE Asia. It was an extremely hot summer this year. Siem Reap was one of our favorite places. Met lots of travelers from Australia, India, Germany and Asia. Not many form the US, except a Louisiana group going to the floating village. Cambodian people are so genuine and friendly. And the temples are magical!
The neak poan temple was built as a place of medicine. I think I remember inside where carving and statues that indicated it was used as a a place to cure sickness. Including the water surrounding it was use a healing area.
Wow. Does that translate as “Dragon Pond” temple?

Cambodia impresses me now that I'm old and more appreciative of a peaceful stress free comfortable retirement destination w/o a lot of BS qualifications and restrictions ! If over 55 you can retire free from any qualifications for $180/year visa fee following an initial 30 day $35 tourist visa. -- Amazing compared to most ! -- Siem Reap is a gem of a city just beautiful and has virtually everything needed for everyday life. The people are the friendliest on Earth as voted by International Travelers Magazine's subscribers. Many expats are said to live comfortably there on $750 -- $800/mo. recurring expenses. Vises and any extravagance could take it up to perhaps $1250 or so. Several stay below $1000 some even with girl friends as a couple ! -- Simply a wonderful place to enjoy and meet friendly expats.

Siem Reap impressed me immensely after more than a years research for an ideal retirement destination. Near the very top for meeting my specific criteria. Deal breaker was the extreme heat and no desire to be sweating constantly ! Even with ac I did not wish to be a prisoner inside for months of the year ?!? --- It sure did attract me in nearly every other aspect there is - it was absolutely awesome.

Guys, don’t know if you are still there, but go and do a Zipline in Angkor Park. So much fun. Do the gold (longer) course. And eat at Malis Restaurant where you can find great Khmer food.
