5 Things I Love About My Jeep Cherokee(KL) Trailhawk!

  • I thought this would be a fun video to do and will have to say I did enjoy thinking through what all I really like about my 2015 KL Trailhawk. A couple things I could have mentioned that I really like are the true 4X4 Low range. It's doesn't use the transmission to just gear it down but actually locks into 4X4. Also the rear locking differential can come in really useful and both of these are things that only the Cherokee Trailhawk, in it's class, has. I also really have fun with the different drive modes. All in all their is a lot to like about the KL Trailhawk.

    I really enjoyed this video, especially because you have clearly put the Cherokee through its paces over an extended period of time...and in a variety of applications. You've made some excellent points. But with that said, I'm surprised you didn't comment on the Jeep's toughness and reliability, which has to be a big priority for someone like you, who obviously demands a lot from his vehicles. Also, I'm a guy who prefers buying American-made vehicles OR at least those made with extensive amounts of North-American-made parts. A few years ago, Car&Driver Magazine reported that the current-generation Jeep Cherokee contains the highest percentage of North-American parts of ANY vehicle. That would be a HUGE bragging point for me!

    • @MootsKLAdventure
      @MootsKLAdventure  Před 2 lety

      I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I didn't put reliability as one mainly because I'd want to be closer to 200,000 miles before I give it that stamp. It's been extremely reliable up to this point but that's really kind of my mark for determining overall longterm reliability. I definitely plan on pushing it over that mark. I agree with you on wanting an American made vehicle and move the fact that Jeep is mostly American made. Appreciate your comments and I definitely could have mentioned both.

I liked it a lot, bought it. looking forward to some great rides. wife and I are retired, towing it behind our rv home, hope to take it all to Alaska next year. Hey man. Great content! Keep up the good work. On your Falken Wildpeaks are you running E load range? I did the MFC 2” lift on mine recently and still running stock size BFG KO 2’s which are D load rated. I wanted to go up one inch in size to a 245/70r17 and was thinking of the Falkens, which are available in XL or E load. I would prefer the XL because it is much lighter. Have you noticed any wear on the CV’s or other components with the larger and heavier tires?

    • @MootsKLAdventure
      @MootsKLAdventure  Před 3 lety +1

      I went with the lighter. I wanted to keep the weight down on mine. So far I have not been disappointed. I haven't noticed any wear on anything yet. I had the tires off and was inspecting it all and didn't see any issues.

    • @MootsKLAdventure
      @MootsKLAdventure  Před 3 lety

      You've got a couple options on the lighting issue. You can upgrade the head lights to LED's or add something like pod lights or light bar. The LED's are your best bet. You can get them from MFC offroad. I've heard some of the other options off Amazon can end up throwing an error code. I haven't done anything with my headlights yet but I'll probably eventually add the LED's.

Also love getting all the looks from people in wranglers, 4runners, and pickups in general with huge lifts and massive tires while I'm on the same trails as them haha. I’m 6-2 and fit great in the KL. The only pain is getting in due to the door frame is slanted more. I have to bend down more than say, a Wrangler. The V6 has great power. Put it in Sport Mode and you will really fly. If you have a family I would opt for a Grand Cherokee instead. With my 2 Pugs it is fine for what I need. Comfort, handling, entertainment center are top notch. Only mods I’ve done with mine is a K&N performance air box, an MFC Offroad 2 inch lift kit, and a Magnaflow exhaust. .

    #1, is gonna be size. Wait, I guess that's #5. Blooper! Anyway we have a 2017, and the size is great, but I'm 6'3" tall, and it's really hard to get into it. We also have a 2006 Liberty, and it's really smaller, but the door opening is way easier for me to get into. One problem was an O ring failure on the oil cooler under the intake on the engine, which I had to fix myself because the mechanics at Jeep didn't let us know about the problem and the warranty ran out. Otherwise, we love our Jeeps.

    Great review. I have 2014 Cherokee Lattitude 4x4 and love it. I do have a question though...I paid of my Cherokee and must admit I am enjoying not having a car payment. I do wish I had more ground clearance. Can I do a suspension lift (say two inches) so I can clear more obstacles as I tend to go off road when doing landscape photography. I invested in some TOYO Open Country II /AT tires that really compliment the 4X4 system on my Cherokee. I am just looking for ground clearance. Or should I bite the bullet and get a Trailhawk? Your advice is appreciated.

    • @MootsKLAdventure
      @MootsKLAdventure  Před rokem

      Glad you liked it! You definitely have some options. As for lifting it you could go with Hazard Sky, MFC Offroad or Rough Country. Basically the same with little difference. If you want to get the best ride quality with your lift I'd recommend checking out gleaming-alloy.com and check out the Stilettos. I just installed a set and it's been a big improvement over my HS lift.

    • @MootsKLAdventure

      I've seen plenty of latitudes that have been lifted and modified. They seem to do really good. So as for buying a Trailhawk I don't think it's a have to. You do get some added off road goodies but if you aren't doing extreme off roading you shouldn't need it.

    I am contemplating between 2022/2023 Cherokee trail hawk or Rav4 xse or Trd offroad 2022/2023 I like the rav4 a lot because they run forever and gas saving, but I don’t think it’s fully capable to go off-road . What tire pressure do you air down the tires, and when to?

    • @MootsKLAdventure
      @MootsKLAdventure  Před 2 lety

      Yeah I'd say the Trailhawk is more capable especially with the rear locker and a true 4x4 low. But the rav 4 can still do a lot. I air down to 18psi and I do it anytime I get on a trail. Even if its mostly a dirt trail ill air down. It makes a huge differance in the ride quality.
