Guided Body Scan Meditation for the 6th Week of Easter

This is a guided meditation from the Liberti Church Easter Prayerbook, for the week focusing on Communion, or the Lord’s Supper. The Sacrament is a place where God, our bodies, and the material world meet. To experience this reality outside our normal Sunday Worship, we will be doing what’s called a body scan, where we bring attention to each part of our body and be present with it.
Unlike Eastern and New Age forms of meditation, where the goal is to negate one’s own self and being, we do this meditation with the Christian understanding that God is the ground of our being and his Spirit dwells within us. Therefore we quiet ourselves and connect with our bodies precisely so we can experience our truest selves in in the God whose life is our own. We do this in hope and expectation that God will meet us and speak to us, not that we would melt into nothingness.
