Remington Express COMPACT - 1 MONTH REVIEW. It's been...emotional 😁

  • Some air rifles break in quick, some don't. I was beginning to wonder with this one...
    My Remington Express Compact .22 air rifle was purchased as a 'roughshoot' rifle for close quarters rat control (20yds).
    It's a powerful rifle - despite the modest figure quoted on the box - and once it's broken in, has the accuracy required for humane pest control.
    I'll review it again in a couple of months to see how it holds up to hard use.

    I am really enjoying this channel. The whole vibe/format is great. Laid back, interesting and informative, yet brilliantly dry and funny at the same time. Great production quality overall. Keep these coming as we will be watching, I believe this channel/presenter are something special!

    So glad I stumbled on to this, I have the remington xp in synthetic. Tried it yesterday along with a few other rifles I havent had chance to shoot, consisting of this rifle which I have owned for over a year but lost my shooting range, a used smk41 I aquired last week and a brand new smk xs19gr aquired this week. Smk 41 shoots just as accurately as my tuned hw95k. It is surprisingly nice to shoot and for £100 used I am really impressed. The smkxs19gr had trouble hitting a 10" metal plate at 20 yrds and the remington was the same. This gives me hope that they need a bit of time to bed in. Like you I was tempted to launch both of them as they seem shite. I will now however give them a chance before launching them

    I have a Remington Tyrant.. I wasn’t having much joy with it.. was all over the place. I’d put maybe 750 pellets through it, tried a few brands and then it was just bang on.. I was hitting 1/2” wide pencil erasers at 45 yards.. which to me, is beyond what you’d use a U.K. 12 foot pound 22 at.
    I thought the thing was a puppy but it did need both a thorough bed in and the right pellet.

    • @PlanetDrewdog
      @PlanetDrewdog  Před rokem

      Yeah the Tyrant surprised me to be honest. I have a 'modified' Tyrant - shortened barrel and a very lightweight B3 stock. The thing is a little demon.

    Ha, brilliant. Mine was fairly good out of the box, but now after a few years and lots of ratting, it's very accurate at 15-20 metres. Brilliant little ratter. I sanded down my stock and stained it lightly black so you can still see the wood grain. Looks and is epic for the price. John. Liked and subscribed.

    Yes it can be a bit silly in bedding in , you will need to tighten all bolts to be on the safe side, and the 1 stage or the 2nd trigger may need a slight adjustment , and to get it to shoot smoother will need a tuning-kit and may be one power washer on the spring guide end Moly-grease a light film will be perfect 👌, and remember a light hold on the fore end and stock will work wonders ,but please you have the pellets that suit the barrel , may I suggest Crossman , Kaiser , Accupell, RWS Super field , Air Arms light, and Bisley field . Nice video Cheers 🥂

      Thank you for your detailed and insightful comment Neil. Yes, this little rascal does it's best to rattle itself apart, but I maintain my rifles quite closely 🙂.
      I have to say, now it's run in - it's a surprisingly accurate and relatively smooth little rifle. Ok sure, I can feel a huge difference when I pick up my Pro Sport, but it's a good compact offhand rough shooter nonetheless.

    Hi Drew, interesting couple of videos 're the remington. I don't know what kind was putting out when I got it as I didn't have a chrono then but I'd estimate around 8.5 ft/lbs. I put a titan spring in it to boost the power and found I'd lost the accuracy so shortened the spring bringing it down to 10.8 ish and then it grouped nicely and took out 38 free rate before the head of the piston came loose! That was down to the head of the piston only being held on by one spot weld (cheap Chinese manufacturing).
    I think they've upped the power now because that's what people want but if any spring gun is over-sprung you lose accuracy. Guns like the tx200 and hw97 have the weight to absorb some of the recoil whereas a lighter gun doesn't. If it was mine I'd take a coil off the spring and bring the power down a touch, around 10.5 to 11.3 ish is reckoned to be the sweet spot for springers, balancing the power and recoil. Still enough power for hunting.
    I also polished the sears in the trigger unit and got it close to the sweetness of the Weihrauch unit.
    Keep up the good work mate.

      Yes indeed, and thank you for your insightful comments my friend. As stated here, this one was making 11.55 out of the box, but now it's running sweet I'm having another chrono session tomorrow. I expect it to be mid-10's now or thereabouts.

    Bedding in. YES this a thing. My HW100. .20 took 3 tins of pellets (1500 pellets) to bed in. Its sooo accurate now I will never sell it. I was called in by a keeper a few years ago to cull pheasants when they had bulgy eye, we took 103 birds from a Land Rover window out to 40m in one day, once you get a gun, pellet, shooting position right it’s sooo satisfying

    You need to use 4 bolt mounts (2 on each ring) on any springer. My old .22 Webley Vulcan is fitted with the Hawke, 3 - 9 X 50 AO Mildot scope, with the supplied, 4 bolt "Fast Mounts". It's Never moved at all. (£65 +VAT all in from Drapers Airguns UK) When you phone, they'll ask which size rails.

      @Beesa10 Před 5 měsíci

      The little scope and mounts that come with these rifles are nothing special, Remington should have specced a steel trigger and guard instead. Can't go wrong with double screw mounts by Sportsmatch.

    You are going to hate me because my rifle was fine. I have a Remington compact express .22 and it's okay. I shoot up to 20 yards (length of my garden) and hit my I.5 cm spinners on a regular basis. I had it brand new. Okay from the start. The bolts were already thread locked. I shoot rws super H point 14.2gr. it works great with my bsa essential scope. It chronos to just under 10lb. You just have to line up your eye up in the same way each time. I guess I got lucky. The only thing I do is grip the gun lightly with a small amount of pressure and keep my muscles relaxed. I put a little more grip into the last two fingers of my trigger hand and squeeze the trigger gently bringing my thumb into play to equalise the force. I really zone into the target breathe out, hold and shoot. Standard artillery hold really.Try bringing the magnification on the scope down to 4 or 5 if shooting close range. I find It encourages less movement when targetting. It's as accurate as my Smk 2 co2 victory. But that one is dead easy to shoot with just the 4x scope I got with the Remy. Just enough power to kill a rat. Similar trigger. Maybe a tad lighter

    • @PlanetDrewdog
      @PlanetDrewdog  Před rokem

      Thanks my friend, interesting to hear. There seems to be wild differences with the Compact - I've been told by various owners what power they're getting, and it varies. Some are getting 8fpe, some 9, 10 and some are right on the edge of big trouble.
      Mine has settled down at between 11.35 and 11.55 fpe with 15.89gr. ammo. Any heavier loses power.
      Happy to say it is now an accurate rifle, smooth, great trigger, and very nice to use.

    ive been thinking about picking one up but i feel like i have enough rifles for now, i have a BSA Lightning gas ram break barrel, a crosman 2240 and a gamo phox pcp (and a B2 which cant hit the broad side of a barn) so i feel like i have all basis covered for now. but i did shoot one of these and the fit and feel for how cheap the rifle is is fantastic, they are typically what ive suggested to my friends who are looking into getting a cheap springer. as cheap as the B2 is i dont like suggesting them cause they are really inconsistent
