    I just set up my Purple Heart 5 piece in beautiful silver sparkle- im so excited I can't remember the real name of the finish - I have been gigging consistently for 20 years - and this is my first high end drum kit- single dad drummers have to make do with what's affordable- so this is a huge deal - I've opened for more than 50 national acts - last one being Foreigner - so the kit will see big stages as well as clubs and the excitement is taking me back to when I was 12 and got my first kit - John Good- DW staff and employees- thank you so much !!!!

      Not a DW fan, it's overhyped in my opinion and I've played there top of the line kits. My Maple Tama Starclassic and especially my Tama maple Star sounds light-years ahead in sound quality which is immediately noticeable and nothing looks way more sexy over any kit on the market than the Star. Top of the line Tama's are just all around better on every level and that company isn't greedy in price compared to DW. Now I do like DW's bass pedals but still overall I like the quality and price of Tama compared to overhyped and overpriced DW. This is my opinion from personal experience of owning both brands top of the line kits and my playing experience is 28 years so I feel I have some insight on knowing good clean sounds and noticing the quality of a good kit. This is all my opinion and I know some people have there's which is cool✌

    Hell of a sales pitch, John. I've been a steadfast Noble & Cooley man for decades and will never part ways with my treasured Star kit, but this piques my interest; I'll definitely seek out a PurpleCore kit to judge with my own ears.
    Meanwhile, the crusty old jake in me demands I ask: What's the story behind the chief's bucket on the hat rack in your office? I also noticed a little wooden fire truck/ambulance beneath the Tiffany lamp on your file cabinet . You make great drums, and I'll respect you even more to learn you're a fire buff. It's a significant reason why I've played Noble & Cooley for so long: Not only do they craft quality instruments but, when the tones sound in Granville, MA, they shut down the shop because many of their craftsmen are also volunteers with their local department, and I always support my brothers.

    • @sinabogado2278
      @sinabogado2278 Před 2 lety +2

      I agree with you. Here's my two cents as well. Two shells from the same line are gonna have a different pitch as well. No two trees of the same species are going to have the same density, strength, timbre, etc, either. Even two of the exact same drum heads are going to have a different pitch before they are even placed on a shell. The heads, sticks, stick tips, drummer are gonna have a bigger impact than anything on how a kit sounds. DW does make great kits though and always has, in my opinion, even though I play another high end brand. Truth of the matter is many drummers hear and pick their drums with their eyes or who plays them and there is nothing wrong with that. Variety is the spice of life and DW has a tremendous spice rack. John has done great things with this company and continues to do so. To me, what he's done for making drums is equivalent for what Krupa did for putting the drummer out front.

    • @dwdrums
      @dwdrums  Před 2 lety

      Hey there.
      So our PurpleCore grain orientation is a hybrid shell.
      Devised to provide the lowest fundamental note across the kit, this unique 9-ply shell with 3-ply reinforcement hoop features a 3-ply Purpleheart wood core with only one long grain veneer. This means the rest of the shell is short grain, thus putting very little tension on the shell and dramatically lowing the overall pitch of the drum. PurpleCore is a drum technology breakthrough that yields maximum low end response designed to compliment today's music.
      If you have any other questions you can reach me at mikeb@dwdrums.com
      Thanks.

  • @Jay-Go
    @Jay-Go Před 2 měsíci

    John, does having only one SINGLE horizontal ply mean that the drum is susceptible to going out of round over time?
    As strong as Purpleheart is and as how as it ranks on the Janka scale, is that one horizontal ply (as well as the reinforcing hoop) as strong as a shell that has multiple horizontal plies? I dig this concept if it doesn't affect the longevity/integrity of the shell staying round.

      @@dwdrums yeah I know, just saying that I am not a fan of masks 😷 at all. But again, your drums are amazing

    South America? The rain forest..... i hope not!! Make drums from fast groving wood´s instead. Maple, birch and beech. Ok?

    I love DW. I do. But John Good consistently comes across as an ol' horn blowing gas bag from way back. He'd take credit for inventing the drum stick if he could.

      He gives credit where credit is due. He even said he loves Gretsch drums way before DW was manufacturing Gretsch drums

      I don't know John personally, but all the videos and interviews I've seen over the years I don't get that. He seems to be down to earth & easy going.

      I think John just shows passion for what he believes in. A positive attitude…something you could learn from, actually.

    Maybe the most overrated drums in history imo. One example - Neil's kits compared to almost anything he played previously. I'd love to hear what someone would say is the ultimate DW sound.
