Back in the 90s, when I was researching dance history, East Coast swing was going so big was due to Author Murray studios.
A.M. decided to simplify Lindy for the masses they were teaching in their franchises across the country during the 30s.
So if you saw Lindy in a movie and went to you local studio to learn, they would just teach ECS and you were none the wiser. This resulted in ECS being the dance of the masses.
Since the husbands would quit dancing, mom's taught their sons, and then when the 50s music hit, it was even more popular.
Hoppers today ofter are to cool for ECS but they are looking at what dance studio morphed it into during the 70s and 80s through ballroom competition. If stylized ECS as the kids in the 50s did, it is a great dance.
Just look what Europe did with it with Boogie Woogie stylization (original name RockNRoll, but another dance overtook that name. Crazy acrobatics in RockNRoll.) They delayed the momentum on the triple-step until the 3rd step.
Similar to West Coast Swing changing the triple to mostly a forwards or backwards travel momentum.
If you don't like ECS, you probably just don't like the stylization you are dancing it with, so that is all your fault.

I feel like I am in the know, now. My instructor kind of stopped me this past week when I said Swing in class and he kind of smugly laughed and said "This is Lindy Hop." To which, I just tilted my head like a dog trying to figure something out. Thanks for the share.

Going to an easy coast swing class once I move back to my college town. Hoping it’s a bit more of that bouncy lindy hop because while it’s normally a real Western country swing type of joint and they aren’t afraid to throw people around

Is it fair to say that lindy is generally seen as less structured, and ecs more?

I love these videos. Fun, creative and informative…just like the dancing I want to learn (except the informative part. Informative dancing?? 🤔)

Hello! Off-topic but is the music in this video from the CZcams music library? I see links in your description but I can't seem to figure out how I can use this music as well. It's so hard to find good, authentic swing music for videos!!
