- Stray Cats - Somethin' Else (Live At Montreux 1981)
Available Now: smarturl.it/straycats81DVD
When the Stray Cats rolled into Montreux in July 1981 they were one of the hottest properties around. They had 3 hit singles and a UK top 10 album already under their belts along with a string of headlining concerts, all of which had come since their relocation from New York to London in 1980. The band's combination of original songs and rockabilly classics with a punk attitude and style had caught the moment to perfection. Added to this were their considerable musical accomplishments and knack for songwriting. All in all it was a heady concoction and the crowd in Montreux reacted with near hysterical excitement, something rarely seen in what is usually a polite and reserved audience. This is the Stray Cats at their peak. Simply unmissable.

#StrayCats #SomethingElse #LiveAtMontreux - Hudba
What can i say about the legendary Stray Cats the kings of rockabilly ❤ you still in 2024 and beyond.
Eddie Cochran is smiling down on these guys from Rock'N'Roll heaven so much energy so much talent!
Too old to party, i stay in every Friday night drinking and playing tunes, this has made my night so much
A few more you might enjoy: Rush "Finding my way" czcams.com/video/iLoUGYxR0uM/video.html - just white hot; and the Beatles "I'm down" with the real Paul: czcams.com/video/y_I8-FUdUWI/video.html. Of course, not really Americana. Styx "Rocking the Paradise" deserves at least honorable mention in that category, IMHO, tho I think there must be a better early live vid out there: czcams.com/video/ZYLr-yNuyDU/video.html. The words are more relevant today than ever. It starts slow, but be patient. It really kicks in.
Wait, no, this version of "Rocking the Paradise": czcams.com/video/YjD4oc2WWX8/video.html; but the intro before it is important, too.
Never too old for party ! Let’s go out ! 💪🏻🌟
Guess you could say its “somethin else”
There probably won't be another rockabilly singer/guitarist this talented for many, many decades to come, if ever again.
All their Eddie Cochran covers are awesome. When we cover Eddie Cochran songs I always check if and how The Stray Cats covered it first.
One of the absolute greatest rock n roll bands ever. Up there with the Stones and the Clash.
Brian Setzer is for me the most entertaining guitar player ever... and one of the most talented for sure!!!
fred120364 and....THANX TO GENE VINCENT AND EDDIE COCHRAN..........the fabulous two rockers live on because of Brian..I have been to both Gene and Eddie's graves and its so sad..but they live thanx to Brian...he's one of them!
Had Eddie and Gene lived; they could have toured with Brian................
keri caye Sure, so many thanks go to those two pionneers... but Brian made a lot of magnificent stuff of his own apart from the Gene and Eddie covers too, and the jazz-rock skills he developped in the second half of his carreer make him a giant among the guitar players, able to raise his skills to fit any style of music from classic to hard rock!
fred120364 oh of course.......HE'S THE BEST and I have seen his career for years and appreciate all he's done.
He's in the same league as Gene and Eddie..again, he's the best.......I prefer Brian's music and playing over anyone (other then Gene and Eddie)...
keri caye Well, then we have at least one point in common: I don't think we have any right to say that this one or another is the best, but at least we can claim that Brian is our favorite!!! Take care and keep the passion thriving!
fred120364 Eddie, Gene and Brian, will always be BEST OF THE BEST. ......
I'll always keep that passion for Brian and his music
Between Brian Setzer on that Gretsch, Lee Rocker on that stand up bass and Slim Jim phantom on that drum kit, this is the best music I've ever heard! Wish I could've seen the entire group together live. I've seen Brian Setzer but never lucky enough to have ever seen the stray cats! Man, they don't make music like this anymore
Saw them twice back in the day. A place called My Father's Place on Long Island in 83, and here in Albany in 84. Yes, three guys with energy like thi video.
I've seen them in May 81 and 82 in France, I was 13 the first time.... I still remember the feelings...❤
I was lucky enough to see them around 6 months after this performance in Chicago in a sweltering little club with around 50 other people. It was a revelation and I've seen Brian 5 times but that first Cats show was...fng unbelievable!
Rock and Fuckin'-A Roll... This stuff'll never be old.
Pure rock 'n' roll chaos.
Beautifully performed.
Saw them in the Great Hall at Lancaster University UK in 1981.
I was 13 years old.
Magnificent.
Very underrated band, so much energy and so much talent.
Such an underrated group. So unique and so talented.
Montreux its always magic...
This is probably the best live song i've seen the Stray Cats do, so much energy.
empire Gene, Eddie and Brian, BEST OF THE BEST..FOREVER.....this song here is unreal...his talent is magnificent.
This is the best live song I have ever seen on You Tube.Sheer raw energy.....
@@chocolatcats 7
its a Cochran song
@@erkjan Johnny Cochran??
This TOTALLY and UTTERLY ROCKS! Brian and Lee were were young and raw with somethin' to prove
I've seen the "Cats" 3 x in the 80's/90's and Brian's rockabilly riot earlier this year, but this, this is the single most awesome live performance I've seen to date...
Eddie Cochran never died....he was cryogenically frozen for twenty years and not long after he thawed out he started the Stray Cats.
Brian is Eddie, for sure.
Something else
right
I appreciate Brian but there was only one Eddie Cochran. He was "Somethin' Else"
One of the greatest rock and roll songs ever.
I love how Slim Jim and Lee are both shirtless and Brian is in black leather sweating his ass off. lol
Brian hot af😍❤
Man's not hot.
I'd love to know how he got his quiff to hold up like that.
Completely awesome rock and foll. Setzer is beyond virtuoso.
Eddie would surely be proud lookin down on this superstar. Keep on rockin Brian.
Love this rockerbily and punk good combination brilliant xx
FABULOUS
he is proved to be one of the biggest guitar players of his generation!
Got laughed at at school when I tried to point out how amazing they were when they first turned up in uk.
Seeing this video now makes me realise how right I was. Rockabilly and punk energy inventive and fun.
Like all the best music, they worked it all out for themselves.
Makes you realise rock is dead now, there is no room for inventive outsiders to create new sounds to thrill us with ,its all
Tv driven and tv wants a guaranteed audience which means just repeating endlessly what worked before.

Best version of Something else iv'e heard.
why did they laugh ? these guys were the coolest cats of their time.
Was into all that stuff from Year 6 onwards,Matchbox,Coast to Coast, etc
The start was amazing!!!
Brian est un genial guitariste yen pas beaucoups qui lui arrivent a la cheville. Et le groupe inégalable.
Saw them in Manchester 81/or82 fucking brilliant.
Hell yes, I miss these days seeing these guys at their best
Best band ever!!!!!!
BEST FRONT-MAN EVER!
Met Brian in Atlantic City after a show. He could not have been nicer. We talked guitars, then he let us pose with him for a pic. Keep Rockabilly alive, my Friend.
That Brian Setzer man! He's something else!
1981. Everybody else was using stacks of Marshal 2203’s and he sticks with classic Fender and Vox amps, and lights them up! Go Cats!!
Seen them twice in Germany, Dusseldorf and Stuggart. Got right up front both times and little did I know I was witnessing freaking history!
Wonderful !!!
Badass live performance.... Pure energy and rage. Bravo!
Almost like a Punk band.
yeah ! total Punkabilly attitude
They really updated Rockabilly at the time and were great live.
Vincent 79 rockabilly was punk 20 years before punk existed.
got this DVD and its a blast to sit and watch it .and no i cant stand still gotta ROCK.
I could call this awesome, and I would be right.
I could call this a milestone in music and, strangely enough, I would be right again.
I just could have called this music ;-)
Love the Cats and Brian Setzer is my favorite guitar player ever!!!
this is one of the most rocking pieces of video ever recorded
like best rockn roll song...
MANY IMITATERS BUT ONLY ONE BRIAN SETZER the MAN!!!!!!

Superb performance!
Gotta be the best live performance of this song by anyone ever... including ole Eddie himself.
Génial tout simplement. Quelle énergie !

Love this!
Brilliant
WAW !!! quel plaisir immense de l'entendre ainsi!! on sent le plaisir qu'ils prennent à jouer en + !
great rockabilly Bryan is awsome.
This is an old Eddie Cochran hit...Brian knew good talent. Eddie was a pioneer of rock who died way too young at just 21.
"died way too young at just 21" That's a song right there...
Tango Bango you got that right
understatement alert! Eddie Cochran was a a huge influence on the future of pop/rock music. Summertime blues, Come on everybody, and something else are 100% gold plated classics.
best stray cats..
Still amazing.
niin ihana aina vain 💜
Rockn,Roll love it.❤
And today they have Lewis Capaldi.....so thankful that I was a teen in the 70s.
Loved listening to these guys when I was a teenager, still do today 👍
Lee Rocker is unreal , man he works his ass off

My son Ewan bought me an Eddie Cochrane T Shirt for my Christmas.

all time best stray cats...

all time stray cats..
THIS CONCERT WAS Put out on DVD and i got it great show.
When I first heard the original by Eddie I heard the "Punk" in it and was disappointed by The Ramones' take, I thought they would have more energy than what they recorded. With respect, their version doesn't even....come close.... I just NOW heard this, (didn't know they did this version) now I KNOW it was made for a group like The Stray Cats! I'm glad to see that it made its way into the 80's afterall!!!
just brill rockabilly.cool cats
Got ta love the Stray Cats.
Fuck-ing Rock and Roll !!!!!!!!!!!!!
いい音の厚みですな✨
O verdadeiro ,autêntico e puro rock, stray cats pra sempre
best stray cat,s song..
really cool
ロカビリーは最高にカッコいい!魂をぶつけて、最小限の楽器で人数でここまでパフォーマンス出来るキャッツは素晴らしい!
The Best
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
li sto aspettandoooo!
Critics panned them, audiences loved them. They could be slight on record. One trick ponies. But it was a good trick. And live where a band proves its worth they were undeniable. I had a chance to see them in '83. They were jaw droppingly good.
One trick ponies? If I understand what you mean correctly, you could call any band that has "their sound" a one trick pony, but these guys definitely aren't. They can all play, perform entertainingly, and did not only rockabilly, but rnb, swing, and on their most recent record, surf rock! And they basically pioneered their own genre, blending punk rock with rockabilly
Stray Cats - Eddie Cochran - Sex Pistols all rolled into one..Magnificent
Great insight!
Super rock and roll 60😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
