I admire greatly both Anand Ranganathan and Vikram Sampath. However, Vikram is way off the mark when he says that we need a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to address our past, settle it, and move on. *This presents a serious misconception of the problem* . The atrocities committed on the Hindus by the Muslim rulers were a result of the basic tenets of their religion. *Those tenets have not changed one bit* . Hence what "acknowledgement of past mistakes" we are talking about is not clear. There is also the claim that "present-day Muslims cannot be held liable for 'past mistakes'". What is being missed is that *present-day Muslims still believe in the very same theology that led to the destruction of innumerable temples* . Hence, as long as Muslims believe in Islam, non-Muslims in general, and Hindus in particular, simply cannot "have a reconciliation of past wrongs and move on". If we don't realize this we are doomed. I think even J. Sai Deepak makes the same statement about Truth and Reconciliation. Only those who cannot see the elephant in the room will talk about Truth and Reconciliation. *The exchange of population that Ambedkar very badly wanted at the time of Partition was the ONLY solution that would have led Bharat retain its civlizational identity. Every other solution will make her face 'a thousand cuts' every day as long as those two intolerant religions are around within our geographical location* . Please realize this. Otherwise we are doomed.

Dr. Sampath - I take liberty to slightly modify your comments on present day Muslims & Christians that they are not responsible for atrocities/plunder committed by the invaders belonging to their faiths. Modified version reads like this " If and only if the present day Muslims & Christians do not gloat over the misdeeds of their invading brethren as a sign of pride and superiority and wholeheartedly/publicly as a community condemn their acts of violence and return the forcefully occupied temples to Hindus." In addition, there is a great "Sloka" in Sanskrit that when translated in to English reads like this - Coal does not give away its color after million washes. We should be mindful of this and course our strategy accordingly.

Well the misconception is that Muslims in India hero worship aurangzeb and his ilk out of lack of awareness of other unproblemmatic Muslim icons. That's a fallacy- they are absolutely aware of the barbarity of aurangzeb et al, but they actually derive pride from that- that Muslims/ Islam ruled and held power over the Hindus. I've happened upon comments from Turkish/ Pakistani/ Iranian people in quora, yt and elsewhere where they derive their superiority complex from the fact that a turko-persian muslim ruled over India. They very much know of the existence of APJ Kalam, they just likely feel that looking up to a person like him doesn't allow them to indulge in their collective religious narsicissism.
