  • Paradygm TV is back with the 'We Asked' show where we collect the opinions of the public on contemporary issues. As the pandemic grows across the country, there are several issues being raised currently and we will be trying to collect voices from different personalities from various positions to get a broader vision. We are trying to be as careful as possible at this time and we are taking preventive measures while filming/producing and editing our shows. Our hosts Avash Ghimire and Binayak Kuikel don't just go out on the public to get the opinions of people but also come up with smart solutions to solve the problem with the dose of witty humor and fun.

We always talk about we not being colonised , but does it matter now? We have a great history , but does history matters now? Everyone talks about history, but i believe now its time we need to realise that history is history, lets live in the present world, what we were in the past, we not that anymore. So lets realise where we are now and lets work towards our future.

I was working on a video about this topic and I wanna know why nepal didn't represent the disputed area in their map if it rightfully belongs to them.

Brown Dusky Valid question and we questioned that too. Defence Minister does answer that question in the video too which is why i also requested for English subtitles here. The reasons why these lands were not in Nepal’s map was mainly the political instability in government level and lack of education/awareness in people for all these decades. As the Defence Minister says it is the bitter truth. The maps Nepal made untill recently was following what India had said their territory was. There was no leadership to research these historical facts. Nepal had first the long Rana Regime from 1846-1951AD, then Panchayat system from 1960-1990 AD and then the Civil War from 1996-2006AD. Throughout this time until recently there was political, geographic and economic dependency with India (open border and surrounded on 3 sides by India). Nepals new constitution is only 5 years old. Nepal is only recovering from these political instabilities. The Adult Literacy rate in 1951AD(not long ago) in Nepal was only 5%. In 2018 it was 67.9% finally which is still quite low. So its only the recent and present generation now doing fact findings, talking and sharing about these historical facts in more collective way. There were definitely lot of people in the past raised these but it was not a collective louder voice. Not just in Kalapani and Limpiadhura but in Terai places like Susta, there were people determined to fight and they fought for their land. After they died the voices faded away But now there are more educated more aware Nepalese and there is social media/network. It is why only now Nepalese‘ collective voice is heard for their right for the lands that is their own. That gives pressure to the government to take action too. Us growing up in 90s we have been hearing border issues but we thought thats just the way it is. India acted as big brother always. As the example given by Defence Minister here, you are looking after a neighbour’s house when they are away. Do you take it when they are not back soon for some reason? These lands never should have been even disputed. Many people in Terai as well, they have documents to show their ownership of the land but not able to grow crops or build houses because Indian armforce like from Bihar proclaim “alright this new path is now a border” hence its disputed. Armforce from India near the border question Nepali citizen why they are building their own house of bigger stronger structure on their own land in their own country Nepal (difficult to just move away easily than a thatched mud house). Another question is why Nepal military not saying anything while India’s military head talking about Nepal being China’s influence etc etc. This is not a military matter as Defence ministry says. Its not about making military threats. This is to be discussed diplomatically which is what India had agreed when Nepal objected about the road contruction in Nepals territory. India then went ahead to inaugurate the road during lockdown. Armforce follow what the government advises them to. So we do not understand why we are hearing from military head of India and many Indians also saying that they have this and that in their armforce how Nepal cant stand a chance. Sorry for the long reply but there are a lot and lot of concerns here.
