Vehicle Blackbox DVR full HD 1080p Dual Dash Cam Mirror and Rear Camera - Review and Unboxing.

- Just a quick(ish) review and unboxing video showing a dual dash cam mirror that I bought recently, also known as a vehicle blackbox DVR full HD 1080p. The camera is built into the rear view mirror that you attach over your existing mirror rather than sticking a dash cam to your windscreen. The kit also includes a rear camera that records the rear view which also becomes a reverse parking camera should you wire it up correctly to switch on when you put the car in reverse (I show how to do this in my fitting video).
I couldn't find anything like this on CZcams when I was buying this so just recorded a quick look for anyone looking for the same.
This dual camera mirror I purchased was unbranded and was just called a Vehicle Blackbox DVR full HD 1080p rear view mirror dash cam but I've seen the same dual camera mirror branded as a Buyee Dash Cam Mirror, an IsYoung Dash Cam Mirror, Partim Dash Cam Mirror, a NexGadget Dash Cam Mirror an Oumax Dash Cam Mirror, TripCam PRO Dual Lens Dash Camera and CoPilot CPDVR3 RearView Mirror Dual Camera System, there maybe more brands too, I'll update the list if I see any or post others in the comments if you know of any.
Additions to the list: Furiauto Dash Cam Mirror, Sendow Dash Cam Mirror, Oxygentle Dash Cam Mirror, Syin Dash Cam Mirror, NextBase Dash Cam Mirror, QCY A70 Dash Cam Mirror, CD102, JVIN Dash Cam Mirror Car Video Recorder, PZ916, RH-A20.
So if its Buyee, IsYoung, Partim, NexGadget, Oumax, TripCam PRO or the Co-Pilot CPDVR3 as well as Furiauto, Sendow, Oxygentle or NextBase they all appear to be the same unit, tho the software seems to change slightly, intro screens etc and I've heard of people having a slightly different lists in the options and the rear camera varies, some are square (I don't know if they are different specs) I chose one with the round rear camera because I preferred how it looked. Also the video quality, I don't know if it changes between brands or not. But for example the TripCam PRO or the CoPilot CPDVR3 that I just discovered is twice the price I paid for this one so maybe the image quality is better too? I don't know but if they wish to send me one of their dual DashCam Mirrors id be happy to install it and compare the difference. :P

The ones I saw on Amazon all seem to be 5V output and I noticed that the dashcam said it works on 12V - does this mean that the universal ones won't work this dashcam properly? I'm not sure, I thought dash cams usually were 5V. Maybe it's just misleading wording and it's meaning it's made to be plugged into the cars 12V power socket as they all are, but the cam itself is 5V and the plug converts the 12V down to 5V. The plugs that come with dash cams do this.
Look on the back on the cam see if it says: Input: 5V or Input: 12V
Or google the model of your dash cam for the specs.
12V seems like a lot of power just for a dash cam.
this product we used for Uber driving. The rear view camera was mounted on the dash facing the passengers and was great to see interactions from the passengers and they like it If you do Uber or Lyft the rear view camera when mounted inside is good for driver security. I have seen the rear camera mounted also behind the second row seats to capture any illegal activities, We always tell the passengers about the camera to smile. Never any objections. they see is as safety on their own,
That's a really good idea, especially for the drivers security.
Also, I remember thinking when I installed mine that I wish I could fit a 3rd camera to it, or that it had a 2nd small camera built into the mirror facing inwards to record the interior, just for the off chance that someone broke into the car you'd possibly record their faces then.
I have one of these, however when I go to review the recorded footage on my computer, the video comes across really choppy. After looking closely at all of the settings, it says the video is recording in 274,000+ KBPS rather than MBPS. Would that have anything to do with it? I've tried changing all the settings on the device and it still results in the same outcome.
Hello I just installed but the rear camera doesn’t display on the unit but it does flash white lights in the back of camera , any suggestions ?

Does this unit record the rear camera as picture-in-picture like the display shows, or do the front and rear cameras record to separate files? Also, can the display be shut off so it simply records without the display showing the realtime video?
Separate files for front and rear and yes the screen turns off.
I have the same after some recording it came errors and i have to format sd.. when i trying to see whats on sd dont show any video recored but on dash cam can play any video only on computer doesn't show any video.. any help with that?
I have a similar one, but the rear camera does not work. I reset, I checked the cameras. the white LEDs light up when I reverse but it does not record and the rear camera does not appear
Is there an option where its just plain mirror but it is still recording? I don't need to see the rear and front video all the time. All I need is the mirror and that it is still recording. I have poor eyesight specially at night. Thank you

It charges the battery while ever there is power going to the unit, ie when you turn the car on. And no I've not tried opening mine yet but my battery is almost dead, someone else posted on one of my videos that they had opened theirs to change it but it's not some standard battery that's easily replaced tho

1) what is megapixel is the front and the rear camera?
2) how does the recording work like as in how many mins can the video record in the internal memory and once put in the sd card then how many mins does it record constantly?
3) does the recording create different thumbnails everytime the camera is one or just over writes the old file?
4) and when does the recording overwrite the old file?

1) I don't know the megapixel of the video, it just says 1080p for the front camera and 720 for the rear. In the settings for taking a photo (front only) the max resolution is 3 million so the video is unlikely to be any higher than that. I made a video showing some sample footing when driving if its any use to you to see the actual video quality in use: czcams.com/video/G9-7_AorJyI/video.html
2) It records individual video clips, either 1, 2 or 3 minutes long, you can set which you prefer in the settings (I have mine set to 3 minutes). It just continues recording like that, recording clip after clip. The next video clip starts where the previous clip ends, I show this in the sample video too about 5 and a half minutes in, to show you don't really miss anything between clips. You need a memory card, I don't think it has any internal memory. How much you can record depends what size memory card you use, mine came with a 16GB card but I think it can take up to 32GB. I've not investigated exactly how many minute it records before its full and starts over writing the oldest clips, however the files sizes of the clips seem to be about 100mb per 1 minute clip for the front and 60 for the rear camera so that would be 160MB per minute. So 1.6GB for 10 minutes and therefore 16GB would be about 100 minutes (these are rough estimates). So id guess the max would be over 3 hours with a 32GB card, but again dont hold me to that im just going on the file sizes of the clips I used to make my other video.
3) It just uses a frame from the video clip, so yeah each video will get a different thumbnail, a frame from the video.
4) It will over write the oldest files once the memory card is full and keep looping like that forever (It wont over write any protected files, ie files it locks if it detects an impact).

have Blackbox dvr dash camera when I installed in my car , first it worked well but after few months of usage, Back camera is not getting displayed on screen during reverse, while Front camera is working well and recording. I will be thankful. I tried with different display unit and the reverse camera is displaying in that device. Can any body help what wrong is with Back camera and how to fix it. is it hardware issue? or software issue? (firmware)
I don't know mate but the first thing I would do is check all the wiring to make sure nothing has come loose with the rattles of driving, or been trapped.

Ahh sorry mate I wish I could give you an actual length but I don't have one, its been installed in my car over a year and a half now and I cant remember exactly what it was. What I can tell you is that there was plenty of length left over when I installed mine that I coiled up and hid, and I went on quite a detour at the back, down from the roof, into the boot (trunk) back up under the light cluster and into the boot lid itself. Tho mine is a smaller car than the Ford Everest, I've not had anyone mention the cord being too short in the comments.

I have a four door Toyota pick-up and it reached the back screen with at least a yard to spare so it should be OK for the Everest.

Secondly, the back up camera I got is square. The manual shows exactly that one you show in the video. I dont like the square one. it keeps moving and point the sky instead the street. How can I fix that?
Hi, I don't know to be honest with you. The max recording length option on mine is 3 minutes, (1, 2 or 3) I don't even have 5 as an option on mine. Maybe you could try setting it to 3 minutes and see if it changes to 3 or stays at 1, as 3 would be better than 1 if you want longer clips, or another number. I had mine set at 1 minute for a while, it just means u have more files but records just fine. Or if that doesn't work maybe try doing a reset to default in the options, then put all your settings back in. Don't know if it will do anything just guessing at options for you to try. Also an idea,.. if you have a spare memory card try putting another card in to see if its the card (but don't buy one as again I'm just guessing ideas).
Hmm, difficult to say about the rear cam without being able to see it, is the bracket like mine? or does it have screws and a joint in it too for adjusting it as I've seen on some in pictures? If it keeps moving something maybe be lose, or the sticky isn't sticky enough if its just stuck on with that. Is it inside or outside the car? Is it fastened on with screws or the sticky pad?

I'm having trouble finding the correct size of memory card for this mirror camera thing. Any tiny SD card that I have is too wide. I went to best buy and they even said that it was a weird size that they haven't seen before.
I don't know why, they take a standard micro SD card up to 32gb. Maybe check that the opening hasn't been moulded incorrectly during manufacture.
I have just purchased this, it seems to be that unless the inbuilt battery is a certain percentage, the rear camera won't appear on the screen? Is that correct?

Hi, Thank you. I have a 16gb card in mine and I get roughly about 1 1/2 hours I think so I'm assuming about 3 hours for a 32gb card. Thats with recording both front and rear cameras.

Yes, just tilt to your desired angle
Yes mate, it tilts up down left right a bit, also rotates a bit too so u can level it. I had to angle mine as far right as possible to make it point forward down the road, it just about goes far enough, slightly to the left but nothing noticeable.

How do you adjust the reverse guides on this model?
I think they're just fixed on the image, no way of adjusting them without actually moving the camera up or down.
OK.. So I got one of these after checking footage I realised its not recording the front it's just giving me snap shots, the rear recording is fine.. What is the problem please?

Thank you! Yes, they say the small rear cam is water proof and made to be fitted on the outside of the car or inside. I fitted mine inside so I have not tested it outiside.
Can you record without the tf card? Mine didn't come with one. Instructions sooo small I can't see if it has some internal storage

Hello, I just installed this camera but after that, it worked for 5 min. and It stoped...I tried with the reset button but nothing...It looks like there's not power in it, I don't know why it doesnt't open anymore. Any advice is appreciated.
I don't know, check all your wires, also check the fuses, maybe it has blown a fuse.

Mine only does a single snap shot from front camera and doesn't actually record.. Is this the same with yours?
No, mine records just fine. Make sure 'boot video' is ticked in the options, this option makes it auto start recording when it is turned on. Pressing the 'ok button' manually starts or stops it from recording. Hope it helps.

I have Blackbox dvr (Full HD 1080 ) dash dualcamera (Back and front ) for recording front and back views while driving.This Blackbox dvr is also helpful in reversing the car showing the back view. This Blackbox dvr is also used as mirror and is attached to the mirror of the vehicle. when I installed it in my car , first both front and back cameras worked well but after 02 days Back camera is not getting on during reverse and is not displaying on the screen while Front camera is working well and recording. I also made the settings of dvr default and reset it by putting a thin plastic needle in the small hole on it's back but nothing worked. There is no display of back camera on the screen nor dvr turns off when it is plugged br its car charger. Can you please help me out that what is wrong with Back camera and how can I fix it. I will be thankful.
I don't know mate, but the first thing I would suggest is to check all the wires. Make sure the connections are ok and check the full length of the wire to the back camera to the front and check it's not trapped or has been cut or damaged somehow.

Check no wires are trapped or pinched, maybe test with a different memory card if you have a spare just to eliminate that possibility, make sure you have removed the plastic film from the camera lens, also check the setting that its set to the highest quality if it has the option.
If it's none of that is the problem then maybe the unit is faulty, in which case you should contact the people you purchased it from. Hope you get it sorted.
Hello. I have installed this xamera on my car and it worked fine for some time but now it is operating very slowly, basically lagging be it in selecting the menu options or the camera it self. Any idea why this could happen and how to fix it?

Oh, if there is no memory card in then I have no idea. Maybe try setting it back to default in the options menu (it will also reset the language to chinese, so take note how to change it back before you do, or watch one of my other videos where i show how to change it back from chinese). On mine there is a little pin hole on the back which is a reset button that u need a pin to press, I assume that's to set it back to factory, I've never pressed it tho so press it at your own risk. It might wipe everything lol. That's as much as I can think of to try.

You have the internal memory full which is 1024mb you need to turn of recordings or insert a memory card to fix this
When part of an image is extremely dark but another part is so bright you can't see any details, that's dynamic range-the difference in lighting. Cameras with wide dynamic range (WDR) have special software that allows them to balance that lighting for one clear image.

How do you mean? Keep the camera recording? or displayed on the screen?
It starts recording when you switch it on and keeps recording till you switch it off, and the screen you can set in the settings.
I just bought a two-camera mirror just like the above video, plug in the car but there is a memory card, one day and then die does not work, what causes damage.

Can you tell anything about the capacity of the built in battery?
I don't know what the capacity is, but very little. It said when it was knew that should give up to 30 minutes on a full charge, mine never did 30 minutes, maybe 20 at the most. Now the battery last about 5 seconds, it's just about dead.
you were able to turn on the product without connecting the wires, how??? I just bought mine awhile ago and it wont turn on
It has an internal battery, there was a small amount of power in the battery.
hello, is this rearview mirror rechargeable battery?
It has a rechargeable battery inside so it can start up and record if the car is hit while its turned off, however the battery is pretty rubbish, mine hardly holds any charge now. It says up to 30 minutes recording, mine got about 20 when it was new, it would be lucky to record 2 minutes on a full charge now, but it does hold just enough to start it up and record if it senses an impact when it's turned off. Hi. I don't know, I don't think mine is infrared, isn't the infrared one the one with the square rear camera?
Anyway I had a look in my settings for you and the option that crossed or uncrossed the eye symbol on the screen was the 'Parking Guard' option at 8:42. Turning this on uncrosses the eye symbol in the display.. but I've no idea what it actually does as the coloured parking lines that show on the rear camera when in reverse still showed with it turned off or on, nor did it make any difference to the display. They should really include some basic instructions as to what these setting do as I've still no idea what some do.
Someone told me the 'WDR' setting at 9:34 is the night vision enhancement but that also doesn't seem to do anything on mine, maybe it will on yours if you have the other type of rear camera with the 4 infrared lights.

Will this over write older video when full?
Yes, it over writes the oldest files first and keeps on looping like that.
It wont ever overwrite protected files tho, you need to format the card to erase those. The card can eventually fill up of these if it detects impacts from speed bumps or potholes etc.

How you dim the screen, you did it so fast! it's very annoying to drive withe screen on while driving, specially at night. Please show or tell me how to dim the screen while the camera it's on. Thanks for the video!
Yeah it is. You can press OK to turn the screen off manually but it's better to set the screen to turn off automatically, you do this in the options under LCD Brightness on mine, and can set it to turn off after 10, 20 or 30 seconds.

You mean to fill the entire mirror? You can't. That's the screen size.
Does it have to be plugged in first before i can see the rear camera? Im trying to see if the rear camera works but i have no luck. Hoping someone will help asap. Thanks!
When you say plugged in, do you mean the power cable or the rear camera?
Obviously yes the rear camera must be plugged into the dash cam for it to work. The dash camera has a built in battery but I think it should work the rear camera running on battery, however if its not displaying the rear camera whilst running on battery then go to your car and plug it into the cigarette lighter and power it from there before fitting it to test if it works (you can also power it from a computer via a usb cable like I did in the video). My camera is saing ...auto space . ...what that means?
for some reason whenever i plugged in my sd card and turned on the device, it keep saying format sd card. My sd is 64g and formatted. how do i resolve this issue?
The max card size it can use is 32gb, that's why mate. 64gb and up use a different format, that's why it keeps saying it needs formatting, but it can't as they use a different format. NTFS and FAT32 and all that.

I got the same...but mine makes lot of noise in camera area...also if i connect it and i put in back camera it makes a differend noise very irritating.Dont know if this also with yours?Mine does not buzzing when starting up and i got other sound and picture,so maybe not the same but i got for sure same box......Maybe mine is cheaper version because i got only 2 options in beginning and you have 3 so....But the opions are the same! peace!
Dont know mate, there's obv more than one software version then, but the unit itself is identical to mine?
Yours all works fine apart from a buzzing noise from the camera area? In that case maybe its coming from the speaker? All those holes on the back above the camera are for the speaker. I placed a piece of black electrical tape over those holes on mine to reduce the volume of the music that plays every time it starts up (which I referred to as buzzing for some strange reason). Mine isnt faulty, I just didnt like the music that was so loud, the tape quietened it down quite a bit, but I can still hear it its just not really loud now. Maybe try doing something like that to block those holes and reduce the sound? Just an idea. Or take it off and cover the holes in the center too, maybe a couple of layers of tape so reduce the noise as much as possible. Sadly on mine there's no way of turning the volume down but maybe an idea for you, assuming it is the speaker making the sound. Mine was cheap too btw but so far still working tiptop.
yes the unit is the same....so from speakers?...oke and you cover it up with tape!?...oke i will do that to....so the holes are not there for cooling?..BTWay if i put in rear camera the sound is less but still there.First thing i thought of was the ground that was not good connected.But i will use some tape and hope for the best,yes mine was cheap to....but if it works ,fine by me...peace!
Well that's what id try if it was mine, and that's if it is actually the speaker making the noise, but that was my first thought as that's exactly where the speaker is. The holes above the camera yes are for the speaker, I've taped over those with no probs and it does decrease the volume somewhat, but not silent, try putting your finger over them first to see. The holes in the middle.. I don't know, tape over them at your own risk, I don't think it gets hot anyway but still, maybe try just taping over the speaker holes only and see what difference it makes. If its caused by a bad ground.. I've no idea on that one, I'm not an electrician. Hope the suggestion helps ya anyway. Cheers mate

I have no idea mate, they should work just the same.
Whats the trouble if not recognize or not read the micro SD card?
Try putting the memory card into something else to see if the memory card works, or try putting a different memory card in the mirror, just to eliminate it being a fault of the memory card.
does all these mirrors have auto dimmer?
No mate, I dont believe they do, they are a little dimmer than the normal silver ones tho, they have a blue tint to them
My one's brightness is very low. It isn't properly visible during the daytime. Anyone got solutions for that?
How to change battery? Mine settings does not appear. Date does not update. Please help
I don't know if you can change the battery, there's no battery cover on mine so you would need to take it apart, if that's even possible.

Yes, It says the small rear camera is waterproof and can go on the outside of the car, although I have not tested it as I put mine on the inside.

where you connecr the red wire in back cam?
Red wire goes into the reverse light circuit so it switches the display when you reverse.You dont need to install it if you dont want to.

Every model will be different, I put mine in my back window which u can see in my installation videos. Or u can mount it outside the vehicle too, like where the licence plate is etc.

Thanks mate, im glad it helped! Bit of extra info for you since using it: the blue tint of the mirror screen I mentioned in the video isnt a problem at all, works fine as a mirror. At night when the screen is displayed your eyes tend to focus on the camera screen more easily than the mirror but I have the screen to switch off after 30 seconds then the mirror works good as a normal one. Also the short music when it first switches on, I put a piece of black electrical tape on the back over the speaker holes and its way quieter now and I don’t notice it much anymore, not really a problem, just something I didn’t like.Cheers mate
My DVR is slightly different, the display is the same but the menus are quite a bit different... anyway the only thing i dislike is the reflection of headlights in the mirror...there seems to be a double reflection. But other than that it works great and I'm satisfied knowing that I have it in my automobile.

Yeah mine felt a bit weird like that at first too but I've gotten use to it now. At night if someone had their lights on too high behind me the mirror would look blue but where the (turned off) screen is that part would be a brown square, not much, but a slight different shade of colour which would make my eye focus on that rather than the reflection, and yeah seemed a bit double-ish vision. It doesnt seem as distracting now tho, must have got use to it. Something I can live with anyway.

No idea mate, other than removing the memory card to to eliminate the possibility of the card being faulty. If it works with the card out then it could be the card. Doubt it tho, but that's all I could think of to try.
5:17 I plugged the rear camera too in the input but there was no secondary display.
It could be that its set to only display the front camera, you can select which camera it displays by pressing the left arrow button. You can choose to display front only, rear only, front with rear top left or rear with front top left.
I recorded a 1 year on review of it the other day which shows this all better, I just need to stop being lazy and get it finished.
Also, If pressing the left button still doesn't work then check that its recording from the rear camera by trying to play back the recording either on the unit or with the SD card in the computer. If its not recording anything from the rear then there could be a fault with it.
It won't show the rear camera unless it has power from the rear reversing lights
How do I automatically turn it off? My one takes 30 seconds to turn off. I just need it while reversing. After reversing I have to wait 30 seconds for it to turn off automatically. Does anyone have a solution?

Hi mate, the only thing I know of in the setting for the quality is the resolution option, make sure its set to the highest option (1080p). Also someone wrote in the comments that the WDR option in the settings is for night vision but it doesn't do anything on mine and nothing changes on mine when I turn it on.
Not sure how bad your quality is, the camera in the dark isn't brilliant to be honest but maybe yours is worse for some reason. I made a sample video of mine while driving to show what the image quality is like if you want to compare it with mine.

haha yea that was well lit roads mines about the same! but i guess i kinda like it ! i might get some brighter headlights it should be better! btw in that video was that the mic u were useing on the dash cam? it was pretty good if it is

If there's power going to it and it wont turn on then could be faulty mate. I'd suggest you contact the seller you bought it from and get a replacement or refund.
Mine records funny? I set it to record in one (2, or 3) minute, and I end of up with half of video & audio and the rest of the video is just audio. And it does this for every sections of recording, wither you set it to record 1,2, or 3 minutes. And the audio is off also. Does any one know how to fix this issue?
Strange. Sounds like a software problem, I've no idea how to fix it besides sending it back. You could try a different SD card if u have a spare just to eliminate that possibility. Or do the normal format card and factory reset etc, but doubt that will help.
I have tried all the settings and tried different memory cards and it still only records half the time its supposed too.

Hi, for individual files you can put the SD card into a computer and open the folder and delete the ones you want, the locked files on mine get named SOS then the file number. Or you can link the satnav mirror to the laptop with a usb cable and do the same.
But, the easiest way to do it in the satnav is to format the memory card, this will wipe all the files on the card, both locked and not locked.
But to do exactly what I know your asking, just unlock a saved file so you can delete that file, I don't know. I usually just format my card every so often and that gets rid of all of them.
I'm not sure if u can unlock individual files on the satnav to be able to delete them, you'd think u could huh. I'll take a look next time I'm in the car.

I'm not 100% sure what youre asking but if you mean the direction on the camera.. it moves in the back of the mirror, you move it manually.

Yeah you can buy them with or without the rear camera, one of the main reasons I bought this camera was it had a rear camera too.
Mine didn't have a backup camera either was suppose to and no Micro SD Card or instructions thank you for the video.
Thanks for the vid. Helped me a lot. After seeing your 1 year later... review I bought this mirror and got it a few days ago but I have some issues. Biggest problem is that it stops recording after a while for no reason. Sometimes it records 10 clips a one minute and then it stops recording. I restart manaually. Then it may continue recording 2, 5, or 10 clips - but it always quits recording after a while. Secondly: sometimes clips get only a few seconds long (1 or 5 or 20) althogh one minute is set as length. More weird: the clips do have same filesize as one minute clips. Strange. Thirdly. You said, starting and closing sound was annoying. But you didn't hear mine. Yours sounds like a piece of 'music'. Mine sounds as a cat would have been killed. Fourthly: sound recording quality is quite good as long as it is quiet. As soon as it is a bit louder audio switches immediately into distorted noise.
I can live with 4, 3 and even 2. But the first point is unacceptable. I will send it back and buy a new one. Hope I just had a "monday device".

Yes I agree the first point is unacceptable.. its the fundamental function of it, it must stay recording so yes I would say send it back. Just one thing u could try.. have you tried changing the memory card for another, if you have a spare to try, just to eliminate it being a faulty memory card causing the issue and save you the hassle of returning it. Tho to be honest id guess it was more likely the recorder at fault.
Yeah all the files sizes on mine are always the same size too, whether they're 1 minute or 5 seconds long they all make the same file size as a 1 minute clip (if its set to one minute clip length). I'm guessing now that it's for the cyclic recording to function, like when the card is full and it comes to overwrite the oldest file there is enough file space if it was to delete a 5 second clip to record a 1 minute clip in its place.

LeesRandomVids you're right, I should test another sd-card. It's brandnew, samsung, bought for this mirror. Well, I had ordered the new mirror yet and we'll see. :D
In the meantime I had some time to do an advanced testing today (1.5 hour trip). First thing I realized at home: THIS CAM IS NOT 'FULL HD 1080' as promised - it's just HD720. Plz check out your videos, it's not full HD. The colors are fine but the picture is very noisy what you can see best, if the car stands still for a while. I still have the issue with broken recordings. Question: if a clip is only 20 secs long, does your mirror continue recording immediately without gap? As already told I have lots of gaps, from a few secs to many minutes but I hope the new mirror will do its job better. Greetings from Germany to England.
Just wanted to add two things: 1. The new mirror that I got yesterday does NOT have this issue with interrupted recordings. I did a 30' test driving and it recorded without any gap. Yeah! I compared the software versions - they're the same so the first mirror definetely had a bug. I assume at this low price there's no QC at all. QC is customer so to say. 2. I wrote, the mirror was just recording 720p. That was not correct. I'm a fool. You can decide whether you get 720p or 1080p. I think there's a difference in picture quality; the new mirror seems less noisy in picture. But now I have strong banding effects (bad color solution like in gifs e.g.). Well I can live with it. Now as the cam is recording continously it's worth its price (35 Euro). I'm happy with it. Greetings.
Hi mate, yeah I had a feeling the fault was with your mirror not the card, but it was something just to try to try and save you the hassle of a return, anyway I'm glad you got it sorted. And obviously the 720p max image quality was another fault with yours. You are correct tho, it is 1080p however its definitely not HD quality.
Yeah we have to take into account the price, its very cheap, we get what we pay for, I doubt theres little QC if any as you say, but even then it needs to be in working order or its useless. Its low quality but it works, its there to record any incidents we hopefully never have.

Do you have a memory card in it? It needs a memory card if not. Or if you do, maybe the memory card is full, try formatting the memory card. Also make sure it's set to cyclic record in the settings, go to cyclic record and select 1 2 or 3 minutes (or whatever options yours has), if its set at 'off' maybe it doesnt record over old files once its full.
Other than that, I dont know, but hope it helps.
That one is actually for LHD like the one sent to me,
I've only ever seen this model for sale. I think they're for both but the primary design is for left hand drive but can also fit right hand drive too, the camera in the back can be angled for either, but fits better on LHD. That's my guess anyway.

I don't know mate, go through all the setting see if there's anything there you can adjust and check the camera lens is clean, but other than that I've no idea.
Does it use much of the car's battery ?
It runs from the cigarette lighter socket in your car, normally they are only live whilst the car is turned on so it wouldn't use your battery at all, then when your car is turned off the socket goes dead and the dash cam automatically turns off. It would only use your battery if your socket was always powered, even when the car was turned off, you would need to manually turn off the dash cam each time then.

Yes, you can set it to automatically turn off after 10, 20 or 30 seconds or short press the power button.

Did you try powering it up before installing it into the car to try it? ie just plug it in to the power and plug the rear camera into the mirror unit to see if it worked? If it did then you know its something from installing it, like trapping a wire or lose connection or something.
