- Whilst I was in the attic last week, fishing out our Christmas decorations, I stumbled upon an old box of VCR equipment clearly left by the previous owner. Alongside the dusty old hardware were a bunch of tapes. Most were too degraded after what must be decades in a dusty attic to play at all. The few that did work were mostly home recordings of old TV. Clearly well used, garbled from countless re-recordings over the same fragile strip of magnetic tape, snippets of programming from years gone by.
Uploaded here is one of the small salvageable segments from a tape labelled 'Christmas '86'.
Strangely, since I found that tape... I've not actually been able to find my way back down from the attic. There was a hatch here somewhere... A ladder? But it just... Keeps going...?

I told you I wanted to do something new! I never said something couldn't still be spooky!
And yes, it is kind of a demi-parody of 'Holly Jolly Christmas'! I've wanted to do something jazzy since I last attempted it with 'Another Horror Holiday' way back in 2019. But where that was a pastiche of more modern festive jazz, I wanted to go back further and take a stab at a real classic festive sound.
Couple that with my love for the old TV holiday special aesthetic and weird hobby of enjoying vintage commercial compilations and the idea of a 'Backrooms Holiday Special' on a mysterious old tape wedged itself in my head a year ago and hasn't left since. It felt like a match made in heaven. Analogue horror meets analogue holidays!
A huge thanks to everyone who helped put this together! Bonecage for producing the music, Freeced for providing the piano and of course to Coda for animating everything and providing the CG environments!
See you all next year folks! If I can ever find my way out of here...

Dude the panning shot to the other Christmas trees in the other halls actually made me burst out laughing. I've never before considered how terrifying this existential dread associated with aggressive Christmas commercialization could be, but it's absolutely fantastic and should be it's own genre

I was thinking this. Life has been hellish for me lately and I added the Christmas songs to my insanity mix and wondered if he had made one while also wanting the best for his mind. I think this is perfect. Sadly missed the original upload but glad to see it no matter the when.
Nothing like feeling like back in the day, with pre recorded holiday TV specials we had to choppily edit through the commercials for the actual show. Thanks for bringing that feeling back, and as ever, a crackerjack voice to give unto us a Holly Jolly Holiday rendition in the Backrooms.

I appreciate that there are no "other levels" in this. I always think the Backrooms is scarier when it isn't just another Hell dimension where anything goes. Yet this Christmas special still brings across the horror by the suggestion and themes of being trapped in a never-ending, never changing loop.
My view is that is no "true" of the backrooms, just different versions for different people. For example you enjoy the existential fear of it while i enjoy the varied liminal spaces of more levels because i love the adventure of it and am often not scared by these horrors.

I personally like the 'multiple unique levels' thing. Sure, its less scary and Is just an scp ripoff, but it keeps me paying attention to it longer. I mean, the initial idea of endless halls is creepy, but can only really stay interesting for so long, on account of there being basically nothing to it. Just the initial premise, then you have to move on because there is nothing more to explore. Meanwhile the SCP style wiki provides so much more content to spend time reading and enjoying.

I really think you nailed the aesthetic, which, to be fair, is one of your many specialities. You managed to make something very jolly while also mildly creepy while still avoiding what you've done previously, and it is really refreshing!

Speaking as a film student, the Backrooms really is an impressive piece. It’s so simplistic, yet it plays so perfectly on our childlike fears of the unknown.
Stupes will never fail to impress me with the level of lyrical whimsy and elaborate wordplay they're able to incorporate into their songs. This is literally a parody of an existing Christmas songs and it still feels entirely original
I love the fact that he used old Christmas commercials to give it the VHS feel, like someone recording over something. I don't know if he used actual commercials or if he just made them, but it's a really great touch in my opinion!!

I just got home and got to hear this song 19 seconds after it released- I am so impressed. This so feels like a song that would be sung at an old time christmas party. You perfectly captured this vibe and also placed it in the backrooms? I got no words this is such a cool idea and a banger song! Merry christmas Stupendium!

This song I so nostalgic, the tune, the way the vocals are, and the ads being skipped through at the start makes me think of going to my grandma’s house at Christmas, and the cold tile floors, the tv glitching because of how old it is, and the stairs being such a pain to climb because of the carpet and the angle they’re at

Love this Christmas jingle. The lyrics are amazing, especially the ones that referrence the need to escape the backrooms. It just shows that even though your trap in a never ending maze, being hunted by monsters and losing your sanity by the second, you just can't escape the spirit of christmas.
Perfect lyrics as always, but I just to appreciate the perfect selection of ads at the start, especially the editing hinting at the liminal spaces with the perfect amount of jarringness and growing sense of dread. I mean, it's easy to overdo it when it comes to the backrooms, but this is perfection! The creepy "toys, are you awake? Come to life" ad especially
I'm not done because THOSE LYRICS! Managed to paint the perfect picture of not just the backrooms, not just the equally weird and primed for horror Christmas sales display in a big department store showing off endless rows of identical trees and unnerving decorations hung were no one ever would put them, but a Supreme mix of the two that doesn't even need the visuals to show off! And a perfectly eerie ending too! You can just picture it with the words! I, like many others, really love your horror holidays videos, but this was something else and it's fantastic!
After four years of Christmas crossovers, the last thing I was expecting wasn't just the Stupendium deciding to veer off that path, but also branching out from songs about computer games to songs about internet creepypastas and analogue horror. And I'm all for it. 10/10, great song to get into the Christmas spirit.

I've been subbed for literally years and the amount of effort that is put into each and every video is still blowing my mind every time. I'm actually old enough to remember the nightmare that was VHS video quality and how it would get worse the more you'd watch the tape and the effect here is absolutely dead on, this song feels and looks like something you'd have on TV in the 90s.

It's a genious concept!
The thing that makes The Backrooms special is nothingness.
But songs need to be about something and nothingness is not a thing.
So filling the empty spaces of Backrooms with something is a great idea to make concept.
But this "something" still should be able to be tranformed into a more empty and liminal version of itself to prevent the lost of emptyness of The Backrooms. And Christmas is great for this concept!

Also fun fact. Official Backrooms doctrine says *not* to consume the liquid on the damp carpet of Level 0, as it's not safe for consumption and no one is sure what it even is.

As a guy who has been in the backrooms, this is a perfectly accurate representation of what it's like to be in the backrooms around Christmas.
funny, my friend lives in the backrooms and this song coming out has been a wonderful addition to her holiday celebrations. reportedly, the monsters are very festive and love celebrating the jolly seasons, they decorate all 600 million endless square feet and even help put the stars and high up ornaments on! well done once again, stupendium :)

An interesting fact about the Lionel ad at 0:24. That was from what is known as a Lionel's MPC Era. During this time, Lionel was owned by General Mills. Unsuprisingly, this led to a decrease in product quality, as the cereal company was not great at making toy trains.

Didn't expect a backrooms christmas song to ever be a thing, but I guess life's full of surprises. The crossover we didn't know we needed for sure. You managed to recreate that backrooms atmosphere really well, especially while (sort of) making fun of it as well, and it's definitely a creative idea!
I love the merging of various old Christmas commercials and specials since I recognized a lot of them from my childhood. Soon as the music and singing began I was reminded of Wierd Al's "Christmas at Ground Zero." That is an awesome thing and I shall be listening to both a lot, as well as your other holiday songs.

For some reason this is, of all the Christmas songs out there, the only song that actually gives off a genuinely comfortable, dated vibe. It's lovely, and it's clear The Stupendium spent quite a bit of time working on it. Great job, the song is absolutely great.

This song is amazing and has been stuck in my head for days (praise be for jolly festive tunes!) but I'm going to take a moment to gush about a moment in the video, rather than the audio.
I can't stop thinking about the moment the camera moves behind them and it's revealed they're singing to an empty room. It's such a perfect backrooms moment, and so deeply sad and haunting in a song that by all accounts, *shouldn't* be. Just... phenomenal work.

incredible as always! i always love your intros and outros, as they’re always themed with the song you’re doing, so i always sit through them. these ones were very creative, and combined with the song this video made me realize how much existential dread someone can get just from the overwhelming holly of christmas. as always the lyrics are very well thought out and the video that goes with them does not disappoint. another banger, nothing new :) well done, love you stupes!

You Nailed that jazz vibe absolutely Perfectly (and to be honest it's something i'd absolutely love to hear more of from you in the future, you have such a perfect voice for it) and not gonna lie, you completely knocked my expectations out of the ballpark!! I normally don't like christmas music, it's just not my thing, but this is absolutely dope as hell!!
AND LIKE THE VIDEO ITSELF????? your sense of style is absolutely immaculate as always, fitting it between old infomercials is such a clever way to establish the Vibes, and the framing of the video is so fucking good too??? Like the footage with you has this delightful mix of nostalgia and unease, and that shot where the camera finally turns around and we see you're singing to a COMPLETELY desolate, empty auditorium, gave me literal chills lowkey

An Immortal entity that is friendly, Immortal and only appears during December in the Backrooms. It sings this and when it isn't singing mocking your situation, it is actually quite chill.
