It's clear how much he wanted to do this for Sri Lanka and for his love of the sport, *his determination and mental strength is insane* . I don't think most Sri Lankans realise what a feat running sub-10 seconds is and winning a Commonwealth medal in the 100m is, which is evident by the fact that companies don't offer Yupun enough money for brand sponsorships/ambassadorships/ads. It's amazing what he has been able to achieve with no help from his home country, and very little personal money. Like Yupun said, he was lucky to find a coach who was willing to go to extra lengths to help him, which is extremely rare in Western countries, but I believe Yupun has been able to "pay him back", in a way, by bringing his coach glory by achieving what he has achieved - I am sure his coach and team know this too. His coach would not have helped him if he did not believe in him, he must have seen Yupun's talent and known what Yupun was capable of achieving. I have to say, Yupun is very well-spoken and has a clear vision of things, he clearly knows the sport and the everything around it, be it political or commercial. I agree with every single thing he said. Sri Lanka need to work with people like him who are experts in their fields. All of his problems would be solved if he takes up another country's offer and runs for them, but the fact that he wants to help other Sri Lankan athletes and want to improve the Sri Lankan athletic system, instead of forgetting about Sri Lanka, is heart-warming. I just wish our stupid ministers and officials listen to professional athletes like Yupun and make some proper changes... Technology desperately needs to improve in Sri Lanka, not just in sports but in everything, we simply cannot compete with the rest of the world, in anything, if we do not keep up with technology. (The part about his wisdom tooth affecting his running?!?! Mindblowing what technology can do today.) Thank you Chathura for bringing Yupun on the show, he is an inspiration to all of us. Wish Yupun nothing but the best, hope he reaches new heights in his career!

This was a great interview. Chathura did a great job allowing Yupun to tell the story without interrupting him. Specially proud that he went to my school Joseph Vaz College Wennappuwa. My strong suggestion to Yupun is to find a base in Bombay for at least 2 months every year and participate in exhibition running events in India few times every year. Singer Yohani did the same thing. Yupun also need a manager from India to manage his indian events in those 2 months. Yupun will have to combine running events and exhibition coaching camps for kids. In this way Yupun brand could be marketed in India for over a billion people and generate some income for future training expenses. I strongly suggest Yupun should talk to Yohani's India management team. Wishing you very best in future running meets.
