Always on point, Sam. You really captured the insanity & appeal of Oi Man Sang. It never ceases to amaze me how the wok masters just eyeball the portions and turn multiple orders out all at once non-stop; they must suffer from tennis elbow and mental withdrawal on their days off. Thank you for another great vlog!
Thanks so much John, always appreciate your amazing comments! Haha the wok masters are amazing aren’t they! I bet they toss woks in their sleep 🤣
The items you two ordered looked absolutely amazingly stunningly mouthwatering. Especially that pomfret wow! Appreciate that you appreciate our cuisine. :)
It was absolutely delicious and I’m happy that our shots did it justice! I certainly do appreciate your Cantonese cuisine, but it’s easy because it’s so delicious! Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
Yay a new video!!!! So exciting!!!!!
Hope you enjoyed it!
Glad to see you back in the new year Sam! Your videos are always great, and I definitely gotta visit Hong Kong one day since you make it look so awesome!
Thanks for watching and the kind comment! I’m really glad you’re enjoying the channel, and definitely recommend visiting HK, especially the places we’ve covered- there are so many gems to be found here!
Finally.....another video from Sam!!! I always looked forward to watching them. I have tried this dai pai dong during one of our trips to Hong Kong several years ago. I still remember the wok air that Sam was referring to. It is definitely an experience you don't want to miss when you visit HK!
Thanks for watching and for the kind comment! Yes, this place is truly special and a must-visit for those in Hong Kong!
Your best video yet, Sam! Truly representative of HK's most iconic street food scene...my mouth was watering throughout your table sitting! 🤤 "Super" job!! 😉
Thank you for the kind words Allan! Really glad you enjoyed this one- it was such a great experience, and I’m happy we could capture it to make your mouth water!

Delicious. Glad to see you posting again. Quality over quantity!
It’s been a while; we’ll try and make the Wait a bit shorter for the next one. Thanks for watching as always!
so happy to see you back
Thank you! Hope you enjoyed this one!
Yay, Sam is back!
Great video… try Tai Po they have great food there too.
I’ve been there twice recently, and absolutely agree- very much eyeing the cooked food centre there for a future episode!
Thank you Sam for making video again. Happy New Year and wish you healthy and wealthy .
Thank you very much David! Same to you!
Great video again. I’m hungry now ! 😊
Wow! Thank you so much for your support! That is very generous, and it means a lot to us. Glad you enjoyed the video! 🙏🙏🙏
This was worth the wait and I also hope this Dai pai dong stall is there for a long time. Also other food places that reflect the true culture of Hong Kong. It was good to see Vienne appearing on the vlog and the pretending moment of understanding Cantonese fully was fun. Ha ha. Look forward to the next one and hopefully it will be soon.
Thanks for watching and your usual brilliant comment, Satish! Yes, it’s such a shame these places are dwindling in number! Haha you noticed Vienne… and my “attempt” to understand Cantonese! I’ll try and make the wait shorter for the next video!
Thanks for sharing Sam
Amazing video as usual.
Would LOVE a few more minutes to your video as I can never get enough from you guys :P
Haha we’ll see if we can do an extra-long one in the future 😉 Thanks for watching and glad you’re enjoying the channel!
@@HongKongHoods always supporting!!

Absolutely another spectacular beautiful shooting filming footage street food travel blog and you nailed it again, and I'm looking forward to more adventures from your video channel, appreciate again and a big fat thanks from Montreal QC Canada
Thanks as always for your wonderful comment! Glad you enjoyed this one- it’s such a great place to eat that we highlight recommend. Thank you for the kind words, and more videos coming soon!
Great to see how dai pai dongs are back in full swing! Thanks for showing us some of the places. There’s only a few left these days. 😊
Thanks for watching! Yes, this one is certainly on full swing! And very true; unfortunately not much more than 20 of these places left across the city!
My favorite H.K. restaurant is Oi Man Sang (Ai Wen Sheng 愛文生). It is worth the trip to Sham Shui Po. Actually only a few minutes by subway from Mongkok. Like the filet and potatoes too. Excellent video enjoyed much. Thank you and your wf.
The fillet and potatoes is amazing isn’t it!?certainly worth the trip to Sham Shui Po. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great video!!! Thanks Sam
I went there last Sept and it was mesmerizing watching the chef wok’ing it up. He was also really friendly to take videos.
I got the razor clams and they were delicious. I wanted to try the beef and potato’s but couldn’t because I was solo. I will definitely try it next time I’m there :)
Thanks for watching and the kind comment. That’s great that you experienced this place; the razor clams sound fantastic, and possibly a choice for us next time we visit. Can’t recommend the beef and potatoes enough- it is absolutely fantastic and exceeded our expectations by far!
Fabulous - loved the wok-star :)
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you Sam. My wife and I are visiting Hong kong in March and we greatly appreciate your videos and the effort you put into them. Top-tier content.
if you are going to this place, I think you can go online into their system and queue up a bit earlier.. I was there in December and went physically to get a ticket for queuing and waited over an hour.. some people shows up with their phone (queuing number).. I dont know where to queue up, you will have to search for it.. just FYI
Thank you Timothy, your support and kind words are very much appreciated! That’s exciting; I hope you guys have a fantastic time and enjoy some places we’ve recommended on this channel!
Oh wow that’s a great bit of information and something I didn’t know you could do. Thanks for sharing- hopefully this keeps people from waiting in line too long!
great to see you back with another ripper episode .... i reckon a few more beers might have gone down then what was shown :) :)
Thanks as always, and glad you enjoyed watching! Haha you aren’t wrong… rude not to when the vibes and the food are so good 😉 🤣 🍻
You made my taste buds water all over again! I had the beef on recommendation too, I could almost taste it as you were eating. Truly the best meal I have had in Hong Kong. I'm coming back in November and will be going back to this place. It's such a shame that these places are dying out, it's part of Hong Kong heritage. Thank you Sam.
Amazing that you’ve been, and very glad you had a great experience there like we did! Love this place, and I bet you can’t wait to go back there! Agreed - it’s such a shame that these places are dwindling in number, I really hope this one stays around for years to come!
@@HongKongHoods you are so lucky to be living in Hong Kong, it's such an eclectic mix of amazing delicious foods, continue to bring us more Sam eats it to let more people know about the food. I love the place. My wife is a hongkonger and we go back as much as possible to visit family and friends.
Congratulations as usual the best of the...best👍👍👏👏
Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed it!
Good to see you again
Thank you! Hope you enjoyed it!
Another great vid @hongkonghoods keep up the good work
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it!
excellent Sam, I have never heard of this Dai Pai Dong in Hong Kong, must be real excellent quality just by judging viz the queue of customers waiting to sit in and eat. Thanks for this fantastic information, will sure try this when we next visit Hong Kong !!!!
Thank you as always Johnson, for watching and your great comment! It is a special place in Hong Kong, and the food and atmosphere are very good here! I hope you get to enjoy it soon!
I always watch whenever you have new content and always give a thumb up! Keep going and you always have a subscriber in me!
Thank you for the warm words and support! It is much appreciated, and I’m glad you’re enjoying the channel!
Great video Sam. I have a craving for nice cold bottle of Tsingtao now. I only became aware of Oi Man Sang after I had been to HK. It's at the top of my to do list when I visit HK next year.
Thanks for watching and commenting as usual, Darren! I do love a good Tsingtao- goes down great with food like this! Can’t recommend this spot enough, sure you’ll love it! 👍
I give full marks for your presentation, thank you very much and take care. Mouth watering.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent video. We’re going to HK in may. Definitely going to this dai pai dong 😊
Thanks for watching - sure you’ll love this place; very much a good choice for the itinerary!
I’ve been watching you regularly, and going China HK every few yrs, haven’t been here but definitely will when we come again in March. Thanks Sam, keep up the HK foody videos.
Thanks for watching, and yes, definitely recommend this place- some of the best, most atmospheric food you’ll find in HK!
Sam, we miss you, it's great to see you back.
Thank you very much- good to be back! Thanks for watching, as always!
Thank you for the video Sam! How long are the queue waiting times?
We filmed on a warm Friday night, and the waiting time was around 1 hour. I’d go a little later, around 8:30pm, or avoid weekends, for a shorter wait time!
Hi Sam
You eat fried shrimps in a typhoon shelter style
You should sip the shrimp shell first because it tastes good
Many of them are in the shrimp shells, heads and legs.
Drink Tsingtao beers
want to eat the second one😘
Thanks for the tips and thanks for watching, hope you enjoyed it! 💪
Hi Sam I think you can eat the shells of prawns too! They look so delicious.
I definitely ate a couple 😉 thanks for watching!
I always enjoy a good dai pai dong video. This place rocks for sure. It's interesting too that most of the seating is "indoors," in a dining room, rather than outside on the sidewalk. Oi Man Sang is almost like a restaurant in that regard...if not for the "kitchen" being exposed. I wonder how many of the remaining dai pai dongs are actually completely street-side and with only outdoor seating. Probably not many.
Thanks as always @Vablonsky, this place is one of the best ones! Yeah, I think that they're just so busy that they can afford to rent the shop space around that area, so they've just turned basically the whole block into one big restaurant- it's pretty cool! As far as completely side-street DPD, I am not completely sure of the total, but I know for certain that the ones in Central near the mid-level escalator are, as is the one in Sheung Wan, the two in Tai Hang and a couple of the ones in Sham Shui Po!
You are making me hungry Sam!
Glad to hear! Thanks for watching 🙏💪🔥
Thanks you
Thanks for watching!
Another great vdo and excellent meal, Sam 👍😋 I heard yr wife speaking Cantonese to the server. Is she a native of HK?
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it! Yes, my wife was born here in HK!
looks bomb!
Thanks for watching, John!
I would order San Miguel Beer, but Tsing Tao is fine. I can eat the shell with the prawn together. I saw him cooked the beef tenderloin with potato added with Maggi Season Soy Sauce. Those green veggies called Pea Leaves and they're cooked with Chicken Broth. My spouse always enjoyed eating Pompfret whenever she came to HK, but she likes with Bitter Melon. Already watch several video of those that went there and Sam ordered pretty much the same dishes. Could add Stir Fried Razor Clams with Black Bean Sauce and he can invite few people with him to finish the meal. When I return to HK by the end of this year, I'll make sure to have one of my dinner meals at Oi Man Sang.
San Miguel is an excellent choice, and I did eat a few prawn shells- they are yummy after all! I'll add razor clams to my order next time I visit. Thanks for the information, and hope you enjoy your meal at Oi man Sang when you return to Hong Kong!
I could tell by the chefs (the two "wok stars"), seeing them in action, and the plated food that Oi Man Sang is top notch. I could tell that the beef was immaculately velveted and that the snow pea shoots were infused with flavor and wok hei. "Dou meiw," as the shoots are called, is a coveted seasonal specialty here in the United States too at Cantonese restaurants and can be a bit pricey because of the demand.
Excellent observation; it's good to know they're a speciality in the States, too. Thanks for watching and commenting, as always!
So jealous, here I am a Chinese living in London eating a bag of crisps whilst watching you stuff yourself with lots of delicious street food with TsingTao my favourite beer! Keep up the good work, love your videos.
Thanks for the kind words, David! Haha although British crisps are sometimes fantastic, they can’t compare to some of the food here - and Tsingtao is up there for me too. Thanks for watching, and more vids on the way!
Very chill🥶 in HK SAR of the PRC these last days, perfect for clay-pot-rice
Chilly indeed!
well done, Great job. next video , please introduce and
show us your producer
Haha our producer isn’t keen on being on camera. Maybe in the future.
Great video! What’s your top 5 recommendations for amazing local food restaurant with a cracking atmospheres in Kowloon?🙏🏾
Apart from here can’t go wrong on Temple Street for good dai pai Dong food with an atmosphere!
Very good looking food and relatively cheap.
Indeed it is; delicious too! Thanks for watching and commenting!
This place is famous for using parrafin gas for the wok stove which burns a lot hotter than the more commonly used butane or propane gas burners. Thats why they can get the food out at such high speed and full of wok hei flavour.
Thanks for that tidbit Alvin, I had heard something about that, and it totally makes sense- it makes the cooking so unique, as you point out! Thanks for watching!
keep going man
We will! Thanks for watching and the support! 💪
I love to eat at dai pai dongs, night market eateries when I travel to HK from USA but Wow, prices have really skyrocketed. They never used to be that expense before Covid times!
I bet the food tasted even better when the prices were lower! Still reasonable compared to some places in HK, but I can imagine that these places used to be cheaper! Thanks for watching!
Wow, Hong Kong food is sooooooo expensive even for food stalls. Almost $100 for this meal...MORE EXPENSIVE THAN New York City
This is Hong Kong- and we did eat a lot. Thanks for watching!
I'm surprised that you were surprised at how good the dai pai dong veggies were. That's like one of the main features of dai pai dongs - really delicious, garlicky, smoky, savory veggie dishes.
Very delicious indeed! Yeah, I’d honestly never had them with that much wok Hei before, honestly took me by surprise in a fantastic way
Westerners aren't privy to the deliciousness of Chinese wok fried greens. Dou miao with garlic is my absolute favourite. I could eat just that with white rice and be very happy.
@@stephen129 That sounds great now I know!
Looked awesome. Are they cash only or do they accept credit cards?
They accept card as well as cash! Thanks for watching!
I was there few weeks ago. Food was delicious. Back to Australia now sadly ever be able to find similar quality of food here b
Thanks for watching; glad it brought back some good memories! Yeah, went to Australia recently, and although it’s ana amazing place, there’s nowhere for Cantonese food quite like Hong Kong.
Delicious yummy
Thanks for watching!
for foreign vieweres. DAI PAI DONG is translated street stall
Absolutely- thanks for explaining!
Hope you can do more series on excellent dim sum sum restaurants in Kowloon and hong kong island which is where most toursit stay.. As a tourist google searching best dimsum many of the pages direct you to expensive ones in hotels that locals ( middle class ) dont t visit at all more of tourist trap. Thank You
That is a great suggestion. Noted, and we’ll try and get to some dim sum restaurants again soon
Good eat and good value MI in UK we struggling 😭
Thanks for watching- can’t get this in the UK, but British Chinese food is yum 🤤
great video! planning to bring my wife and daughter to try the Dai pai dong.. what time you recommend to eat there? lesser people.. 😊
It’s a balancing act between getting there late enough to avoid the worst of the lines, but early enough so that things aren’t sold out. I’d say 7:30-8 is probably best. If on a weekend, be prepared to wait around half an hour for a table! Thanks for watching, and good luck 💪
thanks a lot Sam! hope to see you this Feb in HK.. ✌️☺️
@@dzimi168 look hard enough and you just might spot me (at weekends!) hehe have a great trip!
I thought the green vegetables look like Spinach.
Tasty.
They were incredible- so smoky!
Went to eat here in September 2023 and made the mistake of going on a Thursday evening. They were shut. It was their day off. We did however get a cracking meal from Tin Cheung Restaurant on the opposite side of the road. We will definitely be going on our next trip to HK.
Oh no, that’s unfortunate! I actually had a look at the dai pai Dong across the street and it looked great, so good to know you had a top meal there; I may have to try it sometime! Definitely recommend Oi Man Sang on your next visit to HK!
The area is famous for many food but is also one of the roughest area in Hong Kong just go for food is fine
It’s certainly one of HK’s most deprived areas, but it has so much great food and character! Thanks for watching!
Interesting how all dai pai dong chefs have the same look
Maybe it’s the look of hard work, and of knowing their way around an open-air kitchen! Thanks for watching
is the english menu pricing the same as the Chinese one?
Yes!
Oh wow, inflation has caught up with dai pai dong. I remember dishes were around $30-70 HKD when I last went to one
Yeah, think they’ve definitely got more expensive- especially the popular ones! Thanks for watching
Making me hungry
Glad it inspired your appetite!
@@HongKongHoods I'm an American born Chinese of Cantonese background, and would love to visit Hong Kong sometime for the food, keep up the content!
I would definitely recommend visiting! Thanks for the support- and more videos coming soon!
When i eat shrimps', i eat the whole thing.
is it still safe to go to hong kong?
Yes, Hong Kong is very safe, relatively speaking
imo, at this DPD, people mostly eat the brand, history and atmosphere..... food wise i think they can get much better value at those upstairs wet market centres
I agree that wet market food centres are probably the single best-value type of establishments at this point, and I'm sure that price-wise these dai pai dong were more competitive in that regard in decades past. I think you're right in that people pay a little for the experience, but in the case of Oi Man Sang, the food really is top notch!
@@HongKongHoods maybe in the future you can do Tung Po @ Java Rd Market see if it still stacks up or just another washed up brand
@@fatdoi003 Tung Po is a great shout- very familiar with it, but last year it actually moved away from Java Rd cooked food cetnre- it's now in a commercial building in Wan Chai!
@@HongKongHoods oh they moved up the food chain?.... Need to check out openrice for their recent reviews then .. back then reviews were quite varied on both ends
Indeed the FOOD is exceptional but the cost is on par with a local family restaurant in the US. And we have taxes, higher wages, and even higher grocery costs. No wonder so many local HKers are visiting Shenzhen for their entertainment and dining.
Id agree that dai pai Dong aren’t as cheap as they used to be, but it’s still pretty reasonable here considering the quality and size of portions (especially a full fish and huge and numerous prawns) also, let’s not forget that the US has a 20% tipping culture
@@HongKongHoods HK Dai-pai-dong’s are no tip food sales; just like Japan?
Indeed they are@@Aussieman997 - most grass-roots places in Hong Kong don't have tipping culture
🤪🤤❤
🙏💪💪
Wow that prawn expensive $27 for the plate.
Not cheap- but very high quality. Thanks for watching!
No, the flavour is in the shrimp shell, you need to eat it whole, shell and all!
I did and do eat the shell (did it here off camera). Agreed it’s delicious
My mate got stomachache after having a dinner there tbh
That’s too bad. I’ve eaten there 3 times so far, and no issues for me.
The best dish is two dishes rice now
Thanks for watching!
Hi say hi to Vivienne
Vienne says ‘hi!’
DLLM
Why thank you, kind sir. Same to you!
Meh. I've been to hk dai pai dong & elsewhere in asia. The "bestest" cantonese and/or chinese food are in malaysia & singapore. Top notch. But small unknown eateries. Especially in penang. God tier.
The best Cantonese food is in Singapore and Malaysia!? Not sure I agree with that, although SG does have some great street food. Never been to Penang, but thanks for the recommendation!
Nothing on earth tastes like food cooked in kerosene stove.
Haha can’t disagree there! Thanks for watching.
Hong kong food = too much msg. Either i pass out or i'm thirsty till the next day & i can't sleep. No way good.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Absolutely butchering the pronunciation of the names.%🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for watching, and for your inspirational comment!
You Brits need to learn to appear a bit less fake when talking about food...
Booooo! Thanks for watching though!
