    going vegan or vegetarian is actually the best thing you can do:
    - it reduces ocean plastic because fishing contributes to a high percentage of ocean plastic.

    -good for animals - saves them
    -good for u!!1

    • @zarakowhai
      @zarakowhai Před 5 lety +12

      Going vegan isn't saving animals - it's just stopping them from being born in the first place. Animals used for meat are specifically bred to be eaten, and so if people stop buying meat, less animals will be born because there will be less meat needed to be supplied. In fact, there will be less of those animals if you don't consume meat. Just putting it out there xx

      1. actually going vegan / vegetarian could be bad for your health as it way harder for you to get protein in a healthy way and healthy portion, not having any meat or chicken could lead to multiple deficiencies.
      2. going vegan / vegetarian clashes with many cultures (particularly in the middle east) as cows were made to be ate and it is a festive tradition to slaughter animals and give the meat to the poor
      i would say going vegan / vegetarian should always be a personal choice as some people’s lifestyles aren’t suitable for these conditions.

      Ecosia works in two ways, the first one is the one you mentioned, that means that you alone helped to plant one tree. The second way is that every search and ads that you make makes a percentage of money that goes into a tree, that means that collectively (you and maybe 44 people who where using the engine at the moment or you just made the search that a tree needed to be complete) helped to plant a tree.

    I would like to remind everyone that buying new things is about the most contradictory thing you could do to help the environment, especially if you get it from a web shop.
    Everything new you buy has taken resources, quite likely used underpaid labour, produced waste in the manufacturing process, and has been shipped in trucks, airplains, or cargo ships that burn fossil fuels and pump CO2 into the air. There's nothing wrong with reusing the same plastic water bottle over and over until it finally breaks. Get clothes from thrift stores, donate stuff you don't wear so others don't have to buy new, upcycle ripped shirts into bags, pillows, etc. Using your grandma's plastic tupperwear is infinitely better than buying a new set made from glass or metal.
    ADDITIONALLY: the biggest polluters are corporations, not consumers. Taking shorter showers, taking the bus instead of driving, or turning down the heat definitely won't hurt, but it's virtually nothing compared to the damage done by leaky pipelines, container ships, overfishing (the vast majority of plastic in the oceans is fishing nets), and so on.
    Actions like those in this video help, especially in making you aware of the bigger picture, and are done with the best of intentions, but this alone is far from enough. The real power to change things lies with governments and corporations, and as long as their main incentives are money and power, they won't change anything.

    • @ijwd424
      @ijwd424 Před 5 lety +13

      @@gracedell EDIT: Sorry for long answer 😩 I got carried away lol. Read up on any parties or politicians that focus on the environment, spread information about them and vote. For example, this year in the European Elections, many green parties got a much higher vote than they got last year since sustainability is such a huge topic right now. Even if you can't vote yet, talk to your parents, family and friends about living more sustainable. Read up on the science behind climate change and environmental science, even if you don't like science. Knowing the facts behind our climate and how we affect it helps to better understand what we're going up against and clear up misinformation. Start growing vegetables at home, you don't need a huge spot to do it. I grow lettuce, tomatoes and many herbs at home and I only use two small crates full of dirt. If you put it outside during the summer they will take care of themselves and will also attract many bees and important insects. Also plant many wildflowers native to your country. Even though majority of the change needs to come from the politicians, it's still important to do small things as it can give great alternatives to many things we have today. Urban farming/growing things at home can help reduce food waste and plastic usage, imagine if everyone did it. Small changes spread faster through small communities so try to get your neighbours and friends involved

      @roxannecomtois1930 Před 5 lety +13

      Tünde M, I am so happy that someone pointed out the fact that there is no need to buy all of this, but reusing a plastic bottle is in fact pretty bad. Even more if you use it until it breaks, because that means that the plastic got thinner and thinner, breaking down in the water you drank from it. Anyways, almost every household has too much water bottles, so if not in your house, maybe in one of your friend's or family's. Also, a Mason jar can do a fine enough water bottle (just an example of how you can find what you need in your house without buying it). Just follow the 5R everyone! Amazon is one of the worst companies to buy products from, both ethically and environmentally. Sometimes the products have to travel from one side of the earth to another, which we all know releases tons of fumes and contributes even more to global change. Also the working conditions are awful and the workers are paid minimum wage.

    This is such an important topic! I am really worried about our future. The earth is going to survive climate change. It would take a while for it to regenerate and lots of species wouldn't survive but after thousands, probably even millions of years there would be new animals and plants. But the point is, we won't survive. Unless we do something. NOW.
    You don't have to walk or go by bike everywhere but as much as you can. You don't need to live completly vegan but please eat less meat and dairy products! If everyone does something that can have a huge impact.
    And on the topic of palm oil: It's not just horrible for the environment but also for your health. It can cause a fatty liver, heart disease and cancer. I know it's hard to go without palm oil, because it's in every second product, but at least try it, for the planet and your health.

    Also Tampons and Pads are not only single use but also contain plastics, bleaches and chemicals that are bad for your pH and the ecosystem it ends up in.
    There’s lots of helpful videos on CZcams if you’re worried about where to start, don’t be shocked off by the “controversy” around them, it’s just not promoted as much as tampons and pads.
    Menstrual cups are available from loaaads of different companies, each a bit different so if your first one doesn’t work out try another model, each body is different so not every cup will work for everyone. Measure your cervix height on your first day of your period ( your cervix moves throughout your cycle but that’s when it’s normally lowest). Based on that you know what size will fit for you. I really recommend trying one, there’s a bit of a learning curve, but it’s similar to when you first get your period, after a few times you’ve figured it out. :)

    Where I live we banned plastic bags, we get recycling bins, three different ones, provided by the government and we have two recycling plants. We don’t have any landfills, yet we are absolutely hated for our oil production, which holds the biggest amount of job opportunities in the province, and possibly on the western side of Canada. People even move from Newfoundland and other eastern provinces for jobs here. Even lush wants to take out their Edmonton store because of the natural resource our province possesses. Without oil production Canada wouldn’t be the same. In elementary school we learn about recycling and how to be environmentally friendly. In all 14 years of school ( yes we have 14 years here. EEP, Kindergarten, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 , all in one school ->elementary, 7,8,9, 10, 11, 12 , all in one school ->high school) we go out at least twice a year clean up around the city. We do so many things for the environment but no one wants to acknowledge it, because as they see it we aren’t doing the thing for family’s and the economy, we do it for no reason and that makes us evil. My father is a boss at one of the companies that works at the oil plant and one day he told me about how they bought a bunch of Dawn dish soap and cleaned ducks that they found in ponds near the oil plant, and then moved them to a safer place. We have a rivers running through our city, we have a big lake right outside of our city and we keep them clean. How is all that overlooked? Because we produce oil. We don’t have many clothing stores because all we have is a small mall. There’s not really much else we can do because we can’t farm because we don’t have the land for that, we don’t have vegan grocery stores, we don’t have health food grocery stores and there’s nothing we can do about that. I don’t really know how to end this so bye!

I just found your channel searching for a video like this and I’m glad I did! I try to spread awareness for amphibians and reptiles, and knowing how I can do MY part to help their environments have been huge for me. Great video!! Subscribed 💚☺️

    Guys a really good cereal brand to buy is Envirokidz, each cereal donates to all different types of apes and they are all natural products! They are also organic, gluten free and are delicious! I recommend Choco chimps if you like chocolate puffs that aren’t too sweet.

    tip: buy reusable cotton pads for removing your makeup everyday. One cotton round can be reusable about 1000 times (!!!) and it can be washed by hands or machine. You're saving so much money and your planet

      maybe try washing the dishes by hand morning & afternoon & then your night dishes won't be so stacked. & if you meal prep once a week you can use the washing machine since theirs so much dirty dishes when we cook. I still use mines pero only if its an emergency. when you meal prep your shotting 3 things at the same time. 1)you won't have to cook food for a week only heat it up. 2) you save money eating out & avoiding plastic & harmful antibiotics hormones, chemicals fast food contain. 3)you only use the dish washer once a week since you won't have so many dirty pans & dishes. *ALSO if you can wash the dishes with " cruelty free bar soap" that would be amazing. once you start step by step you'll feel like a natural! & if you can only do it for a month you'll be helping alot anyways.💚

    If everyone in the world put 1 ice cube in the sea we could stop global warming. Lets make it happen! Spread the word!

    • @simplywonderful2548
      @simplywonderful2548 Před 5 lety +2

      Sadly, this wouldn't work. Global warming is from the ever-growing hole in the ozone layer, which protects our earth from the sun. The hole was created due to pollution, so cooling the ocean down wouldn't do anything to stop global warming. Even if everyone put an ice cube into the ocean, it would heat up again quite quickly.. And we also need to think about tropical water animals.
      It's a really nice though, though! Maybe you can search for other ways to help? 💕

    thrift shopping is SO SO good!!!!! it is such a simple and effective way to go green!!! along with the environmental benefits, it will have plus sides on your wallet and wardrobe. the clothes are a lot cheaper than buying them new and you'd be surprised with how stylish some of the clothes are. shopping at thrift shops doesn't mean your poor, it means your environmentally friendly :) :)

Try to cut out as many animal products as you can and maybe you could educate your parents and if they think it’s too time consuming to cook vegan make them a vegan meal some time. Also you could go grocery shopping on your one or with them and chose the plastic free options etc :)

    Tips and My Progress in Sustainability: Do not use pots from stores! Unless they are gifted to you, necessary for a certain plant, or the only thing available (that does not mean throw away the ones you already have.) They are bad because if they break they are no longer usable (unless there is a way to still use them, please tell me) and (usually) they are plastic or glass and those don’t decompose. Instead use old plastic containers, it would have been tossed anyway so use it for a plant or for germinating seeds! If you don’t use plastics (are 0-waste, low-waste, etc.) then use sturdy cardboard, bins, old cups that sit collecting dust for years, baskets, sew old clothes into hanging pots if possible, build your own pots! There are so many other, better options!! I just converted a dresser my sister was going to toss into a mini-bench for my dogs and into a rack for my plants and it is currently holding 17 plants, a spray bottle, and an old soap container I use to water them. Five of my pots are old plastics and 4 of them have multiple plants in them because the plants can fit in them. I am making a new pot right now and all the plastic used in the house is given to me because my family know I will find a way to use it. I am looking for my thread to sew up my clothes that have holes. I am going to use the scraps of the dresser + mini-bench to make a composter tomorrow. An old bin I didn’t use is now a bed for my dogs if they can’t go in they’re kennels or just want to sleep in it. I had beads that I couldn’t use (I was gonna use them for decoration but couldn’t) and are not at the bottom of a pot for drainage (I am going to grow a water melon and I am not taking any chances for root-rot) so they didn’t end up being thrown away. I use bar shampoo, I am looking to get bar conditioner and body wash, and I am going to use the empty soap containers for more pots. I am going to have a garden in probably the next two years. Any creamer containers are used for watering plants because they have a pointed spout. I am going to start growing my own food ASAP. I am researching brands and helping my family do better. It’s so easy to be more sustainable just put in a little effort, time, patience, and thought and you are helping to save the planet! (Also don’t throw out leaves or mowed grass put it around other plants and when it decomposes it can act as a fertilizer!)
