Hey. . . I was part of the RM fabrication team that did that Isotta originally back in 02. We showed it at Pebble in 03. I love that car. . . . I have been lucky enough to work on 3 of those Fleetwood "flying fender" vehicles which were, Isotta, K Mercedes, and the SS Mercedes. . . . 1929 was the last year for those coachbuilt beauties from the Fleetwood PA plant till they moved it to MI. . . . Glad to see Jay back. . . great episode!!!

Another great educational video about a car I never heard of. I was a student in a master's program at Salve Regina University and saw the mansion featured many times. A side note, I met actress-singer Betty Hutton who thought a dance class at Salve. Jay, you telegrammed me on the video about the sporty 7-15 logo car about a week ago. I don't think my computer is compatible with getting back to you. Thank you very much for your efforts, as mine are lacking something. Newport is just beautiful, and with the beautiful automobiles and you two guys it doesn't get any better. Ruth Buzzi grew up in Westerly, R.I. and Katharine Hepburn lived about 15 to 20 miles away by herself in Conn. in a house by the ocean. There was a great video about Miss Hepburn and what she went through in the 1938 hurricane. It was on CZcams, and everyone should try and give it a watch. Sorry about my history lessons, but it is funny how your video brought it all together.

I'm the same age as Jay, and grew up in the same area in the heyday of demo derbies. It was understood at the time that the main advantage Imperials had was in how far back the radiators were from the nose of the car. I owned a '63 Imperial about 10 years ago, and could have, literally, stood inside that space. Plus, the nose and fenders were factory-welded together and leaded like an old custom car, so there were no seams; it made the structure very resistant to crushing. Same in the rear.

In 1976 my father bought a 1972 Lamborghini Miura SV that had 6,000 miles on it and was in mint condition....for $10,000. The gas crisis at that time really drove down the value of cars that got lousy gas mileage. It was an absolutely incredible car, and it was kept garaged most of the year because we lived in Minnesota. I drove it countless times (which terrified my parents) and it was something I can’t forget, especially the sound of that V-12. My father sold it in 1989 for $95,000 so it ended up being a good investment. Now they’re worth millions. I wouldn’t want to own one now, it’s too valuable, parts are hard to find, and it’s just too old to drive it like it was made to be driven (very fast).

I have driven a few, and most need to be, particularly from first to second (unless you are Fangio). You can wait to match revs, but it's more trouble than it's wore for every day driving. Later in the century, there were still many cars that preferred double clutching into first at a stop sign, as their lowest gear wasn't synchronized.

Jay's has always been a bit old-school American about foreign car names, as if he doesn't want to sound too uppity, and his denim uniform and work boots underscore that attitude. My favorite is Lenoism is "Laaanseeya", but that is also mispronounced frequently in England. There's one almost everybody gets wrong. Many years ago, when a student in Italy, I was corrected by a native friend who explained that the accented syllable in "Laverda" is the first one. "LAHverda".
