I completely agree! Black Phoebe is definitely something that I run into on a regular basis in socal. Not sure which bird it would replace. Maybe the Oak Titmouse or an honorable mention.
In California is this endemic bird, witch not only should be on your list, but definitely should be Official California State Bird. Can you guess what bird I'm thinking about?

The Nuttall's Woodpecker and the Allen's Hummingbird would be my two target species!
Luckily, if you go to the right areas they are pretty easy to find! Love those two birds!
