Dunster is LUSH!!!
I have very fond memories of spending the day in Dunster with a Lovely, Lovely Lady, exploring the village and then the Castle and it's beautiful grounds.
Chatting to a Guy who was working the river flow into the water mill and then sitting on a bench, overlooking the Channel towards Wales, surrounded by lush vegetation and greenery; It really is a place to reflect and enjoy the peace with a beautiful Person.
Oh! And Dunster also appeared in an episode of Agatha Christies Poirot....Poirot was staying at The Luttrell Arms and there are many shots of the Yarn Market and also the Castle.
I live in Somerset as well ….. but it’s in Kentucky in the USA. I’d be happy to change Somersets. 😊 Thank you for this.
You are so welcome!
Another great & fantastic video of DUNSTER | Exploring the charming medieval village of Dunster, Somerset!.💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Thank you 🤗
I visited Dunster when I was 14 on a family holiday. I can probably appreciate it more now. Lovely place!
Thank you so.much for this much needed walk , I visit dunster usually 5 times a year, but due to ill health this yesr I have been unable to go so it is so lovely to see you to walk round for me so I can get my fix of this wonderful place x thank you so much
Thank you for this video. Like you, I drove through Dunster on my way to Minehead and then made a point to visit. Sadly it was the height of summer a few years ago. It was heaving with people so we missed seeing a lot of things. We did stop at The Deli for locally made cheese and cider. Bought some beautiful hand made birds by a local artist that go on my Christmas tree every year. And unfortunately got booted out of the doll museum by a really nasty woman who worked there. She complained that my small dog might put his nose on the display glass (even though I was carrying him) she said nothing to the couple with three children eating ice cream and getting their sticky fingers on everything. When I pointed this out she told us we must leave and not return as she didn't like argumentative people! Despite that Dunster is a beautiful village. I think you definitely picked the right time to visit.
Dunster, lovely village. Dunster by Candlelight held every year in early December well worth a visit, catch a bus from Minehead, shops open, street entertainers, market in the castle grounds, magical.
Sounds great! Would love to see that
I spend a great deal of time on Exmoor so it was nice to see a familiar place. If you find yourself there again I would suggest heading down the first no through road you passed on West Street; there is still a working water mill there and they make artisan bread. The second no through road just after the Foresters Arms takes you to Gallox Bridge (and ford), it's a medieval stone bridge which leads to some lovely woodland walks. I can also recommend some even prettier villages than Dunster including Dulverton, Porlock, Allerford, West Luccombe, Winsford and Selworthy. All picture postcard places 😁
mike: I once had a house in Winsford - Cheshire ‼️ I've not seen the one in Somerset - yet ‼️😁
Love the North Devon and Somerset videos. Such a lovely part of the south west 👍
I think that old brick building on the side street might have been "The Nunnery". So nice to revisit a place we walked about a couple of times years ago.
Dunster is beautiful. Gallox bridge area is gorgeous & there are some very pretty cottages nearby. I think the old building was a nunnery - at least that’s what the sign above the door says 😌
Couple years ago, we spent a couple nights at The Luttrell Arms. Miss it. One of these little shops sells hand made gin! A wonderful one!
There are beautiful views from the top of the castle. I went up there in 1984. You can see the Bristol Channel on a clear day and (perhaps) even the Welsh coast? Also a visit to the Gallox Bridge, Mill Stream, and Rose Cottage are a must (all in the same area past the Foresters Arms. There are great views of the sea and the back of the castle from the Gallox Bridge.
Lovely stuff - I’m going to check those out thank you!
Thank you for a great video. I love Somerset and North Devon. If you haven’t visited already, you must visit Watchet, Blue Anchor, Porlock, and Porlock Weir. Lovely places.
Watchet coming this week
Will definitely visit the others - thank you for the suggestions!
so true.
It is a quite place to visit and stay in the hotel and restaurant and having a tea and cakes and shopping and places to walk round and seeing the old buildings and castle as well thanks Neil
Thanks Elaine
Enjoyed filming this one!
We LOVED this video! Wonderful village. Thank you!
Thanks Sue!
Looks a lovely village
Very!
What a beautiful place! I could definitely see myself living there. Thanks for sharing
Our pleasure!
13:22 that building is called the old nunnery and dates from the 15th century. Lovelly village, lucky to ride through on my motorbike when visiting family in Devon. The church has an interesting medieval storage box with about 5 locks to which each person had a key and had to be present to unlock it, i think it contained vestments or something.
Indeed a lovely quaint village - and I was just thinking "I love the colours of the painted houses" and you said (or wrote) exactly that ‼️😁😁 A very British Village which I hope never changes ... keep em coming Mr Walk 👍👍👍💯💯✔✔🇬🇧
Thanks Jo!
It's a lovely place loved the church another great video
Thank you Pearl!
Great place for a holiday and a good base for exploring Exmoor, and if you are into Heritage Railways Dunster has a station on the West Somerset Railway, bit of a walk involved though, down the hill under the main road (subway) follow the footpath look for the signs for Dunster beach.
The Luttrell arms is well worth a visit or two as is the Foresters Arms (Look out for the cheeky Parrot).
Great video.
Great video again Neil it's been a while since I was there forgot how beautiful Dunster is will have to try and get back again this year
Lovely village, i went to Dunster and Minehead with my mum 9 years ago, loved it.
Fab isn't it - Minehead coming soon too
@@GimbalWalkTV Yes its lovely, i loved walking down that street and being able to see the castle from there, lovely little shops and tearooms too, looking forward to your video of Minehead 🙂
Such a beautiful village👍
It really is!
As noted in my "AA Touring Guide to England" 1975 edition, it is "the fine, shingled Nunnery House" at 12:45 in the video. Late 14th or early 15th Century. Lovely town!
Wow!! Remember when I was little and being taken there on holiday! It was so lovely. Remember the covered thingy in middle. Look forward to seeing this! Thanks! 😊 ooh How could I forget the castle!Btw thought my village was quiet!! 😮
Loved having the place to myself on this one!
@@GimbalWalkTV I bet! Looking forward to Minehead now too!
Charming place
Definitely
Beautiful place never been
It really is!
Noooo we didn't spot the canon ball hole lol!! 😖 🤣
Neither did I 🤣
I hung around as long as I could looking but had to crack on with the walk otherwise it would have been 45 minutes of me starting up at a wooden ceiling 🤣
Had a holiday here last year. Such a lovely place. Thank you for bringing back memories.
Our pleasure!
Thanks for great video, I love Dunster and have been several times, at one end of the village is a packhorse bridge and you can get to the watermill, thanks for taking us there.
Ahh I was looking for that and couldn't find it!
I can't put my finger on it but the town of Dunster sounds very familiar to me !!!!!! ....
🤣🤣🤣
Looks beautiful. It could almost be up north 😁
Wearing some very loud shoes on this one mate !😁😂😂
Tell me about it!
Looking forward to your Filey and Scarborough upload I hope it’s going to be soon 😊
Should be in the next week or so once I've done the Somerset and some others
Listed building 15th century
Thank you!
The building you asked about was a nunnery I believe
Ah ok! I need to look that up and learn about it in that case. What a great building eh!
Have been considering a visit to Dunster, so imagine my pleasure when I saw that you had posted this video. Thanks! Odd question, but can you tell me if there are fields with sheep within walking distance? If yes, then this is the perfect village for me! 🙂
I think if there is then it would be just at the very start of the video - around that area
I know that I drove down to Dunster and as I was coming towards the village on Exmoor I was greeted by a huge pack of wild ponies!
Nice video nice village...maybe try to edited out the loud sounds of the cars passing...
Will try
I think that you should go back there to film the features that @NewHeathen highlighted. Plus the Dovecote and of course the castle exterior and grounds which are free to explore. It's almost as if you purposely decided to ignore the features that make Dunster so popular. Go on. Give it a go and return. Film the steam trains from the castle. Film the castle from the main road . I haven't got the ability but you have so please do it again or just add the features that you missed.
This was my first time to Dunster so I didnt' really know my way around.
The way I film places is to go for the first time, film a quick wander, and then post it and get feedback and tips and hints for the next time.
@@GimbalWalkTV Wonderful. So please do as you suggest and return for such as I who is now old. I have taken many slides but they do not compare with the quality of film that is available to people younger than I. I spend many hours reminiscing watching films such as yours. Guess what I found by taking photos? It forces one to observe much more closely what one captures. Your comments show that you have researched Dunster very thoroughly so if you seek out the places highlighted in you description it will increase the pleasure of those who subscribe. Best wishes.
Typical English village....well flmed...
Thank you David
Double yellow lines outside a listed beautiful Inn is not a friendly sight and can't be good for the village come on council at least a drop off point
