- You already know a slow cooker is great for making dinner for your family, but what about food for your dog? The Barking Good Chef shows how a slow cooker can transform a few simple ingredients into a dog-food feast.
I have a whole 'nother crockpot I use just for my dog's food. They are the pickiest eaters and before I started cooking they would waste so much store-bought food. It's actually less expensive for me to cook this way than it is to have to throw away all the off-the-shelf food I've thrown away.
Great idea! I bet they love your food 😀

Your dog is lucky to have you!!
Thank you! I’m lucky to have him 🙏
I have many dogs both large and small. I homecook and feed raw. Never any kibble. I use my crockpots a lot. Thank you for adding crockpots to your recipe list 😀😀😀😀🐕🦺🐕🦺🐕🦺🐕🦺
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching and much love to you and your dogs.

Indeed! Thank you 🙏
What a great video and recipe~ I just subscribed!
Thank you!!🙏
Great video. New subscriber. I'm going to try some of these recipes for my Westie, he's 15!!
I love your Staffie. They have a bad name over here in Ireland, but mainly due to ignorance. I started volunteering at a dog shelter 7 years ago, and soon discovered that Staffies are the most lovable and friendly dogs. As a result, they have become one of my favourite breeds.
Indeed they are! Thank you for what you are doing for those precious pups. All my best to you! 🙏
I swear this dog eats better than me. I had canned baked beans and hot dog sausages last night. LOL!
Seriously, I want this for me to cook. I need to eat more healthier now. Can I just use thighs with bone? Or do I have to make it boneless?
Thank you for sharing!!
Thanks for watching! 🙏
Your dog is so cute Awww bless her
Thank you! 🙏🙏
@@BarkingGoodChef you so welcome ! I just found your channel ! I love it ! Your unintentionally funny ! But I’ll be using your recipes ! I often cook for my doggos but glad u found this channel ! I cook chicken skins treat often probably twice weekly but I put little salt and sugar on them
Thank you for a very informative video😅; so helpful!
Glad to hear. Thank you for watching! 🙏
Me, Magguie 🐶&Prunella🐶 love your videos🇨🇦❤️🐶🐶👍
I like your pittie!
Thank you! 🙏
Glad I found your channel. Thank you for sharing g. I have two picky chihuahuas that won't eat any dog food I buy for them so I started cooking my own dog food. I love your recipe and it's low cost and easy. Thank you for sharing, your dog really loves it huh?
Thank you! Yes, she (and her brother we adopted since I filmed this) absolutely devour this. I hope your chihuahuas do, too! All my best to you 🙏
@@BarkingGoodChef how much do you feed your dog i have a pitbull about same size as yours but he needs to lose weight
Awesome information!
🙏
About to make a small batch(other breast going into dehydrator for jerky treats). Slow cookers are SO easy, finding veggies my dog will eat is another story. Peas are out, lol.
Lol, just like children, some dogs can be picky about certain veggies. Thanks for watching and for being an awesome dog parent. 😀
Peas gave my dog nuclear gas 💨 💨💨
@@cynthiar7350 Haha! Mine doesn't eat so not included(nor green beans)

I prefer the crock pot...aka slow cooker....put it in at night...done in the morning 😊
Right on! It doesn’t get much easer. 👍
I have not tried cooking my dog’s food using
my….wait for it …Suzanne Sommers crock pot..;) I love my crockpot and will look forward to easier method of preparing my baby’s (Chase) food.
I had been using ground turkey and after awhile, he showed no interest!
Your delicious recipe may change his mind 😊
New subscriber…just found your channel ❤
Great recipe beautiful dog thank you.
Thank you! 🙏🙏
Way too expensive where I live to feed my dog this. Some people do not eat this good here compared to what is in this crockpot for a dog.
I simply boil some chicken gizzards and hearts for 10 to 15 mins and mix it with some table scraps. Dog turned 13 this month.
nice looked great I will try it my dog is a picky eater
I hope it gets licked up 😀
I want n to try this.
Hmmm I will try this .
Hope it’s enjoyed! Thanks for watching 🙏
Don’t forget to toss in hemp hearts, flax seed & chia.
Great ingredients! 👍
forget peas - try spinach, green beans-kale -more nutritious
👍
AWROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Thanks for the recipe proclaims my Husky named Rufus!
Excellent! So glad to hear 🙌
Maybe it’s just me but, my dog could care less about presentation! He’s just ready to eat!
Thanks for this! Going to try to get my Staffie off prescription food and allergy meds. Vet medicine is just as profit driven as human healthcare, if not worse since they know we will do anything for our pets. 😅
Thanks for watching and I hope your Staffie loves the recipe 🙏
Shoot I might just make myself a plate 😂 that looks delicious 😊side note: I don't have a 🐶
Lol, thanks! Definitely human-worthy. Add some onions, garlic, seasonings and you’re good to go 😀
My boa keep teleporting
10,000 to 100,000 times stronger olfactory sensors than a human and your gonna cook his food in a slow cooker?! He probably starts salivating immediately but his dogo brain doesn't understand time so now he gets anxiety as each second passes and the smells get stronger and stronger melding into an orgasmic delight of the smell realm!!
Lol, good observation! I think there were some treats given in the meantime 🤣
I started making dogfood and now my dog wont eat unless he sees me heat it up. I have to actually put it in something and act like I warmed it up or he will just look at it and me in disappointment
It’s funny how quickly they learn, eh? I started making my own over a decade ago, and soon after my dogs turned their noses up at any commercial or subpar food 🤣
What about vitamins and supplements?
I add vitamin powder to my dogs’ food a few times a week, plus give them supplements depending on their needs (for example, Glandex to prevent those smelly excretions). Most important, though, is my vet says it’s all working and the pooch is In fantastic health. As always, and especially with a homemade diet, you’ll want to work with your veterinarian to make sure your dog is in good health. Mine have been on an all-homemade regimen for over a decade now. Cheers!
slow cookers almost never break..i feed my girl pressure cooked meat with bones so she gets that marrow nutrition..
you made stew for the dog
I’m seeing all these comments about people having picky dogs ?? My dog eats everything put in front of her . She’s about to enjoy this .
I hope she does! Cheers 👍

Great recipe! How much to feed of this food to a 50lb dog?
Thank you, and great question. Here is a guide for recommended portions in general for feeding dogs: www.petmd.com/blogs/nutritionnuggets/dr-coates/2015/july/are-you-feeding-your-dog-right-amount-32905
Regular cuts of chicken & beef is not enough nutrition. You need to incorporate offal into the recipe if you are going to strictly feed home made. My vet suggested that I add vitamins to my dog's food when doing home made / raw, just to ensure they are getting all of the necessary vitamins and minerals in their diet.
Agreed. I regularly feed my dogs liver, heart, kidney, and other offal cuts, and give them a powdered vitamin mix in the morning. Cheers!
@@BarkingGoodChefsomething you should absolutely share that is needed not all people are aware
Any suggestions for amount for dog size?
I use this chart from PetMD as a general guide. I hope it helps you, too: www.petmd.com/blogs/nutritionnuggets/dr-coates/2015/july/are-you-feeding-your-dog-right-amount-32905
How many servings does that amount make for your dog?
If memory serves, it was about 6 to 8. This will vary depending on the size of your dog. Cheers!
How do I know what size serving for a 20 pound dog?
I’ve found this to be a good guide for feeding, and should be helpful guideline whether you’re mixing homemade dog food and kibble, or only serving homemade: www.petmd.com/dog/nutrition/are-you-feeding-your-dog-right-amount
you can add bone in meats and with all that water it will make a broth (just remember to remove the bones!!!)
Good tip!
How long in the instapot
For that, I would start with 25 minutes using natural pressure release (where you let the pin drop on its own). See how that works, and if the meat is still tough, try longer the next time. I think dogs will love it 😀
I keep trying, my senior dog is getting pickier & pickier so most veggies are out(unless grated into strong flavored meat).
I know how difficult this can be. Sending good thoughts to you and your dog 🙏
My dogs will only eat carrots if I cut up very small pieces and cook with the chicken. If I just steam them and add into the mixture, they spit them out. 😂
@@dottjohnson2232 🐾😁😆
Do you use any supplements in your homemade food?
Yes. I regularly add powdered vitamin mix, powdered hip/joint mix, and bone meal powder, which is a good source of calcium. I'm not tied to any particular brand.
I never cook rice in the crockpot. I've added cooked rice and oatmeal works in the pot. I guess it varies on your slow cooker, but some grains really need high temp
I feel it’s important to add muscle meat and crushed or ground egg shell for calcium
Good thinking. I also regularly cook organ meats and other types, plus add a calcium supplement. Cheers! 🙏
wheat for dogs?
If you want. Other grains of your choice can also be substituted. Cheers!
I didn’t know to add iodine
If using regular table salt, it will have iodine in it. If unsure, just see if the salt says “iodized” on the box. Cheers!
@@BarkingGoodChef WHAT ABOUT NON IODIZED OR SEA SALT? REG TABLE SALT HAS TOO MUCH SODIUM
@@tiana1017just use less
How much of this recipe do you feed at one meal? ________ per pound of dog's body weight?
Here is a good general guide on feeding portions: www.petmd.com/dog/nutrition/are-you-feeding-your-dog-right-amount Since I only make homemade food for my dogs, I use this recipe as one portion. If you want to combine with existing kibble, try mixing in to make one portion appropriate for your dog. Thanks!
I do the same...what's on sale...and dog nutrious
Right on! 👍
I struggle big time cooking my dog food my dogs are absolutely rediculously picky ugggg
I used to do all that but I stopped cause the dog started vomiting. I used to such trouble for her .
Oh, I hope you’ve found quality food that agrees with her 🙏
How much do I feed my 17 lb dog per day
As a very general rule, you’re looking at 1 cup to 1 1/3 cup for a dog of that weight. If your dog is still a pup or in growth stage, that may vary and will increase. As always, check with a vet for specific requirements for your dog. Cheers!
peas and sweet potatoes cause heart problems DCM
You DONT NEED TO cook dog food, RAW FOOD IS BEST and has all the nutrients in tact, bones and shells and all!
Isn’t this what they tell you not to feed your dogs? People food?
I’m not sure who “they” are. My veterinarian certainly approves, and keep in mind that commercial dog food is a relatively new thing. For centuries through history, dogs lived on “people food.” Cheers 🙏
I'll try that. I'll throw in some organ meat and a marrow bone.
Your dog should love that!
sod the dog lol ill eat it
🤣 it’s human-approved, too!
Why add the veggies and grains? Aren't dogs carnivores?
Dogs are omnivores, thus I add veggies, etc. to my dogs’ food. Thanks for watching and all my best to you and your dog. 🙏
TRUTH BE TOLD:
No dog food made by man is good for dogs. The same applies to cats. Those new foods like "Farmers Dog" are all made to appeal to humans. Dogs have no real need for fruits or vegetables in their diet. It's really all about marketing to humans to make more money, not necessarily about the nutrition and the well-being of your pet dog or cat.
REALITY:
The perfect food for your dog, or cat does not appeal to the average person. WHY? It's too expensive to maintain on a regular basis for a dog or cat. THE PERFECT FOOD FOR YOUR DOG OR CAT is actually the exact same foods you would feed to a pet boa constrictor; Feeder Rats, Feeder Mice, Feeder Guinea Pig and Feeder Rabbits. These animals contain all the perfect nutrition and vitamins (organs, brain, bone, and blood) your dog and cat need to be as healthy as they can be. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME, ASK YOUR LOCAL VETERANARIAN.
A canine nutritionist should comment on this. It looks like an absolute nutritional nightmare toe me. Where are the vitamins, especially A D & E? The bit of iodine in the salt is negligible, and completely insufficient for an adult dog. Where are the oils and fatty acids? And dogs don’t need tenderized slow-cooked meet; chewing tough meat is how they clean their teeth. It’s also good for their mental health. No bones means no calcium, phosphorus or magnesium. Cooked bones should not be fed to any dog, so the slow-cooker is a no-no anyway. Sweet potatoes and legumes (i.e. peas) have been shown to cause CDM, which can be fatal. If you routinely feed this crap to your dog the animal will be woefully malnourished in no time, and its life will be shortened so that’s a cost saving in the long run, I suppose.
No liver or organs! Calcium is needed
Calcium is indeed an important nutrient for dogs. Here’s an entire video I made on that topic: Calcium and dogs | A vital nutrient to know
czcams.com/video/sd3z17F-6-g/video.html
Dogs are carnivores, never feed them grains
Interesting. Mine are happy omnivores! Cheers 🙏
@@BarkingGoodChef dogs in the wild are carnivores and they don’t get bad hips, diabetes, heart disease or any other human diseases they get as pets
Oops you forgot the organ meat, source of calcium and omega 3 and 6 oil. Not balanced food. Also peas are legumes and are not advised due to heart issues. Please visit a canine nutritionist for guidance. This is not it.
Too much talk.
You talk too much!
