  • Last month, when Isabelle Huppert was in town for the New York Film Festival, she took some time out to visit our film closet, where the screen legend gave charming voice to her love for Nicolas Roeg’s BAD TIMING and Pierre Etaix’s YOYO, and shared fond reminiscences of directors Federico Fellini and Curtis Hanson.

Isabelle is a braver actor than Meryl or most Hollywood actors; could you ever imagine Streep playing the roles Isabelle did in the Piano Teacher or Elle ? No chance. A outstanding , daring ,truthful actor, head n shoulders above anything from contemporary Hollywood

I read an interview with her in 1996. The journalist said that however ice-cool and composed she seems, every so often she grins like a naughty schoolgirl, and it's very endearing. I have now witnessed this.

This is why I love watching these videos, seeing big name actors and filmmakers getting really excited and geeking out over movies.

Isabelle played scripts like a first violinist carries an orchestra. Such direction and passion in the voice, face and body. I love her so deeply. Thank you so much Ms Huppert.

There is something about her personality that is so powerful & hypnotic all at once. Her work in the piano teacher is some of the best acting there is, and I'm still not very well versed in everything she's done so I'm excited to see her in many other movies

I love how she sometimes mumbles in French as if we were supposed to understand her. Oh I love Isabelle Huppert 😍

She picked "A taste of honey" (1961)! Who else knows this rare gem? Saw it once in a movie theatre in 1970, never forgot it, searched for it later. The actress Rita Tushingham, with her unforgettable face, big eyes, big mouth, had another small role a few years later, in 1965, in "Doctor Shivago" (opening sequence). What a sensitive and realistic story that was, "A taste of honey", in exquisite black and white! Good taste, Isabelle!

Thanks Isabelle for mentioning Curtis! I loved his work and was disappointed when found out he passed.
