The fact he's got pain in his voice makes me think deep down ofcourse he loves him.

Boy I know how that feels. Unfortunately, the pain doesn't go away. Nothing can be more important than the love cherished between parents and their children, but sometimes it just doesn't go well. The real pain is felt when one passes away. The remorse the guilt and the pain that the one left behind then has to go through throughout their life is like no other.
