    What he is doing here in the takeaway was the main thrust of the teaching of David Lee in “Gravity Golf,” which had its time in the spotlight more than twenty years ago. Lee calls that first move “The heave” and uses Nicklaus and Couples as prime examples. By turning your body and momentarily leaving the club to move “last,” you effectively throw (or heave”) the club to the top without using the arms. (It’s a great way to create the right arc without any tension in the arms, wrists and shoulders and recommended especially for those who tend to snatch the club to the inside at the start of the swing.) At that point, according to Lee, the club is at the top, hovering and almost weightless. (Toss a golf ball in the air and it’s that split second when it reaches its highest point before gravity pulls it down.) The next thing that happens, Lee says, is the initiation of the downswing with the lower body, a weight shift to the forward leg and slightly backward, away from the target line, starting the club moving downward. Lee’s term for his move is “the Counterfall,” a move in which the body moves to create and offset the momentum of the club on the downswing. Note that Dana has Brendon doing that, too, just in different words. Those of you who watch Mike Malaska videos will recognize this downswing move as “the push away” from the target line with his forward foot as he begins his downswing. One instructor’s “push” is another’s “fall”-both in the same direction to make room for the hands and offset the momentum of the club-and if you want to do it, you have to decide what feels more comfortable for you. As we are told over and over, there is nothing really new in instruction, just the same stuff repackaged, sometimes with a term the instructor uses to enhance his brand.

      You’re exactly right. Familiar with gravity golf. Crazy drills in the book but effective.

    Can you post more videos with Dana? This is great stuff. Your swing looks great it doesn’t look like you are trying to hit positions.

    Love this video with Mr. Dahlquist. Right in line with Athletic Motion Golf with their emphasis on the swing being a dynamic movement, using force , pressure shifts, recentering, getting left early in the swing, etc. In fact, incorporating these concepts have your practice swings looking a little Rory McIroy like! You’re on the right track here. More with Mr. Dahlquist, please.

    @7:07 is exactly what I do and am struggling how to fix. From dtl Left hip shoots out towards ball and if you draw a vertical line down from butt of the club it is left (behind) the right foot.
    Totally have issues with my hips, takeaway and backswing and matching the hips vs shoulder rotation (sequence).
    Hearing Dana mention that clubs and arms swing back different to the body turn really got me interested for more info.
    @8:50 getting left earlier but not spun out + closed ribcage shoulders is another gem
    Looking forward to more from this series. You asked really good questions - clarifications.

    This guy has the correct knowledge package, he actually understands how the body moves in the golf swing, Force, motion and sequence are the key components, totally understand and get his teaching principles, and you looked by far the best I've seen you move whilst having a lesson, apart from Milo Lines, the rest are just witch doctors of the golf World. Let's have more of Dana.

    That was good, and for me.. what I think I understand more now is the “ keeping you’re width “ analogy. Turn but don’t you’re arms turn with you? Is that it?😁

  • @paulbanney9881
    @paulbanney9881 Před 3 lety +1

    Now you are on the right track. The swing has to be athletic. You can’t “put” the club in positions it has to go there by way of how you are moving. I think Drew’s swing is a great example of this.
    Some of your practice swings looked real good. Well done mate. Cheers

  • @grahamjones7371
    @grahamjones7371 Před 3 lety

    Rotation would be a good dominant thought if you swing with your feet together,But for me it was one of the main reasons (together with stuffing things under armpits!) that i couldnt get below 11 hcp.But now i realise the golf swing is basically a long left/lead side pull throw, (imagine flinging a heavy frisbee) im down to 4 hcp.The right side has to give you the width on the backswing to give the left side something to work against. So gentle right side throw on backswing explosive left side throw on downswing,the opposite of most golfers!Brendan used to have a bit of left then right but he looks to be moving great now!

  • @sirtogii5216
    @sirtogii5216 Před 3 lety +1

    If you could hit balls with the swing you just showed that would be the end for the quest to be better at golf :-D At least for the full swing part... You've done videos with Marcus Bell I see, the guy from Zen golf here in the UK and the rocking movement is where he starts, getting students to stand on a piece of wood with a seesaw kind of set up. Just using that with a club to get the feel on how to move and sequence the body right. I swear that if every golf instructor started there, before any kind of other swing thought, that would improve all amateurs overnight. If you're so focussed on "looking at the ball" "keep your head still" there is zero chance of any dynamic movement that could become a good swing.

    Man tighten up the top of your swing. Too much movement at the top. Work on freezers and get the feeling of hitting the ball from the top without a backswing. Compare your swing to tour pros. You need to fix that and you will not need any of this bs from all these guys .
