It's of course not the same all over Europe. Here in Finland we have tap water available, usually for couple of Euros you can drink as much as you want. We have pump bottles of ketchup in fast food restaurants and it's often free at any regular restaurants too. But they don't give individually packaged ketchup like they used to. They used to give a few of them and if just used one then the rest would go to waste. It's not about how difficult it's to open them.
And the service thing. I think we have pretty good service here but the waiters don't need the tips so they a genuine, not fake nice. I would hate if the server would bother me in the middle of my dinner. They watch from afar and I know how to get the waiters attention if I need something.
The reason why we keep more to ourselves is not about us not caring about other people but the opposite. We care about your peace and don't want to bother you for no reason. We talk to people when we have something to say but needlessly bothering others is seen rude here.

It's not that people in Europe are selfish and do their own thing, the issue is that in the USA waiters depend on tips to survive. The service in general is good and so is the attention and manners, at least in my country, Spain, the big difference is that the treatment is not exaggerated, false, because they do not treat each client like a tip with legs.

The question is: why is US beer so expensive?
I'd rather not tell you what we call US beer! 😜
In Germany you can buy and drink beer and wine from the age of 16.

your so wrong about the europe and the cuture, a million miles away, im going to talk about the UK
average working week, 37 hours, what do people do after work, go to the pub. not to get drunk, couple drinks, it could be beer wine, or even just a coffee
chill out, slow down with friends, have bit of fun, that can be from a cleaner that finish work, to a top ceo, in the pub, everyone is equal,
we have longer holiday time off, a work life balance, in the UK its law, 28 days paid holiday by law, maternity leave 1 year, sickness unlimited, paid by the employer or government. Why am i telling you this, because it promtes well being,
time to get yourself right, the same as the pub culture, which is a community in itself, countries have tried to recreate the pub culture around the world, they get the decor right, but the culture, it does not work, because of the community, the people make the pub,
If i told you, i could back in 2005, go to a workmans club, on a sunday at 12 noon, there would be a 1000 people in this club, it was open for 2 hours
i would get free plate of snacks, have 5 pints of beer, see 2 strippers, fully naked, 6 minute show each, a live band, for $10, than included the beer, there was one of these clubs on every housing estate in the north of england, some have closed, but many still open, my wife goes every friday to play bingo. this will shock you, i hope you read this, because its community
These palces, workmans clubs were born from the industrial revolution, which started in the UK, men go to work few beers after work, nad through the mining era for coal,
the clubs are not run, by some big owner, making a fortune, these are run by the people, you have to have you membership $5 a year, that money gives you the chnce to vote, on how the club is run, a democracy, The club is run, by the people, a commitee of 8 people, elected by the members, then you have a treasurer, and a chairman both elected, for a one year term, hope you with me
before i get onto the finances, the club is split, into 3 rooms really, you have the bar, darts snooker, that sort of thing, but women not allowed in the bar, there is a line that ust not be crossed at the door, it was accepted then, it worked, men could talk men things, swear, you know what i mean, there there is the lounge, nice place, quiet, nice seats, for couples to have quiet drink, the elderly, to have a quiet rum or two, its for all, thats does not want the noise of the bar
the n the big room concert room, live bands and stuff, or wedding s birthdays that sorth of thing and cheap
because its run by the people, every penny of profit goes back into the club, bingo is played, raffles, money draws, and the likes, 75% goes on the prizes, 25% goes back to the club
the people, who run it, do not get paid either, we get a 4 free pints, when on duty thats it,
alot of that money, that helps cheaper drinks, cheap live shows, is also put away for christmas, for the children, to do a free chritams party, take them on a coach to watch a theatre play, of aladin, little mermaid, cinderella, and a party when they come back, and gift bags, for the children of every member
thats one aspect of community, i could go on, but it would be a book lol
if you really want to know more about cultre, community, give me a comment back, i have only touched the surface
