    Most of their A350s are in 2-2-2 but the newer ones are being delivered with a Moden 1-2-1 config. I had the chance to fly ET in Business on an Award Ticket and found them to be great value. Friendly staff and good food. I had a 12 hour daytime connection in ADD and they put me up in a hotel for free and handled all the immigration paperwork. Didn’t even have to pay for a Visa! Would definitely choose them again.

      That’s awesome! I had never heard about that long connection with ET. I wonder what the conditions are for that, if all business class travelers qualify with a layover of a certain time

    Nice flight review. Ethiopian Airlines must retrofit the seats in both business and economy classes especially in their older 777s, 787s and some of their A350s. The 787-9 that you flew on from Senegal to Ethiopia has 1-2-1 seat layout but it is missing the door it has now in the newer 787-9s and Airbus A350s. You asked about the seat layout in the A350s, the older ones has 2-2-2 seat layout in business class, the newer A350s has 1-2-1 layout with a sliding door. It would be great if the wall is higher so that people will have added privacy and feel like they are in a hotel room.

      That’s good to know! I’ll have to check out one of the newer A350s sometime soon!

    omg that little tweet hopping away on the lounge floor was too cute - oh all too familiar imaginary wi-fi connection, eh. so bit of an exercise in patience sitting there waiting 1.5 hr in Mali for the next leg. noticed the absence of any comment on cutlery branding nor presence of air vents and #ugh a hard stand deplaning totally sucks (like i'm sure it must have been quite cool and novel in the late 50s but time travel apparently doesn't exist so we'll never know) and what was with the super loud tray table lol, at least you eventually got air vents and wi-fi!

    Another simply lovely video review; fancied the seats, and Ethiopia? another destination pending on my list!; and Ethiopian coffee is simply marvelous; and that chic touch on the amenity kit both in English and Amharic...lovely; quite a wonderful trip you made, and I fully agree with you the 1-2-1 config is much better ; thanks for still making my afternoons and nights pleasant to carry on with life....cheers Patrick 👍

    Well Done Patrick you can also do this on Ethiopian Airlines EWR-MNL via ADD. If you are willing to do a Star Alliance round the World trip with UA domestic LAX/SFO-EWR and then the EWR-MNL leg on Ethiopian via ADD. Back to San Francisco and Los Angeles SQ OZ🇰🇷NH🇯🇵CA🇨🇳BR🇹🇼 from MNL🇵🇭. Your final leg will have Filipino passengers avoiding PR102/112 MNL-LAX PR114/104 MNL-SFO. If you combined UA ET followed by Star Alliance asian partners OZ🇰🇷CA🇨🇳NH🇯🇵BR🇹🇼 SQ from MNL🇵🇭 back to SFO/LAX

    Thank you for having the human element to care and giving your seat to someone who needed it more than you at Addis Ababa. In my book, that gesture speaks volumes of you as a person as well as your character.

    You suggest that the 787-8 and -9 have different business class configurations. Actually, the -8s have two different 2-2-2 layouts. Six of the 9s have 2-2-2 and the four newest have 1-2-1.

    nice, but the weakest point remains the logistics for BC on the airports...therefore I chose for direct flights if possible or stop over in Europe at least....

      All good points. Although Ethiopian is quickly becoming one of the world’s largest connecting airlines, and therefore Addis will need to restrategize its hub shortly

    I fly their B787-9 from BKK to ADD and to JFK in June with 1-2-1 seatings throughout.
    The return trip was B787-8 with 2-2-2 seatings.
    The service was good and attentive but the crews did not address passengers' name as practised by Singapore Airlines.

    • @PatrickSheaAviation
      @PatrickSheaAviation  Před 6 měsíci +3

      @@PatrickSheaAviation I chat with their Team Leader(Usually the Senior Female Crew) and suggested to her lots of practice and protocol from Singapore Airlines perspective and she was glad that I chat with her. Anyway I don't work with SQ. Those were the observations and experiences I fly with SQ.

      @dannyong: Thank you for sharing this with us I’m flying BKK-ADD, then to EWR. I’m actually stressed about the biz class seating, because I also usually fly the Singapore EWR-SIN-BKK Route, and LOVE IT. absolutely love SQ. So…..this will be a whole new experience for me. (Miles ticket). On my flights, it looks like a 787-9 to ADD, and 787-8 to EWR. So I’m guessing 1-2-1, and then 2-2-2 for the longer flight, god knows why they do this. But…heck it’s “free”. I would think that they would want to showcase their best aircraft for the longest flights.

    We are flying Ethiopian Air thru Addis Ababa but only have about 90 mins connection time. In your opinion will that be enough time to go thru customs and connect barring any flight issues ?

    • @PatrickSheaAviation
      @PatrickSheaAviation  Před 3 měsíci +1

      If you’re connecting, you only need to go through a TSA-style checkpoint and then your back in the departures area. It’s taken me roughly 30 minutes each time. I wouldn’t be too worried, but also depends on how quickly you can move through the airport

      Not at the moment. My current pilot job allows me more flexibility to do all the things I want to do. Maybe some day though. I do have airline pilot friends that have been kind enough to share their flight benefits with me however ;)

    One more question. Sorry. I’m flying BKK-ADD 787-900, then ADD-EWR 787-800 (18 1/2 hour flight through Lomé. The seat map is showing a 2-2-2 configuration for both flights (February 2024) is this possible? It seems that all the reviews I see looks 1-2-1 in business class. I think I’m going to be horrified if I have to sit next to someone that’s gonna constantly be hopping over me on an 18 hour flight. Do you think this could be an error in the seat map, or do you think that they are still running this ridiculous 2-2-2 layout. This will be my first time flying them to from Thailand (100k points ticket for business) had to. But normally fly Singapore back and forth. The SIN-EWR flight is an 18 hour dream. With United devaluing their miles so badly lately , I figured that I should use the pouts, as were never gonna see business class tickets to/from Asia at that rate again

    • @PatrickSheaAviation
      @PatrickSheaAviation  Před 4 měsíci

      Interesting. I was under the impression that the -9s were all 1-2-1 but maybe they aren’t. Regardless, it’ll be a great flight. Just flew their 777 in the 2-3-2 configuration and still enjoyed the flight

    Ethiopian flies some of the earliest produced 787s which Boeing used as testing and certification aircraft. It has been reported that they got a screaming deal on these slightly used planes.

    Wow, what a horrible experience to have a business class seat and things are not all there in perfect order as they should. I now remember that you were given a red amenity bag and now I see the yellow very third world I must say. All of the food choices that you picked and enjoyed looked great. How long is this flight from Ethiopia to South Africa? Are you getting compensated for the wifi not working, and also not being able to use your laptop and the squeaky food table? Goodness gracious?

    • @PatrickSheaAviation
